Leo has had two major events in his life recently and also has lost easy access and exit from your home with the removal of the cat flap. Is there a way of restoring the cat flap so that he is free to come back in when and if he wants to? He might be returning home, but has no way to enter at times when you are not there/awake to let him in. Also, can you make your home more cat-friendly post baby, so that he has places to retreat to when he needs to? I remember hearing a cat behaviorist talking about her preparations before the arrival of a baby which included creating some cat-friendly high perches so that her cats could retreat when they felt the need. She also was preparing the cats to new sounds of babies crying etc. I hope you and Leo reach a happy outcome soon, but it might take some patience and a step by step approach.In the meantime keep persevering.

You could see if a charity working with people in need starting in their first home might like them as donations. SDCAS (www.sdcas.org.uk) works with asylum seekers who often need to start a home from scratch when they receive their refugee status. Hi Saffron, yes it went very well. Took it outside, turned it on on the lowest setting and it smoked as predicted. Repeated a few times and then slowly raised the temperature. No fires or calamities!

Don't worry Applespider - only 2 saucepans. As someone who is disabled and has not had much to drink all day I would like to be prepared. It isn't as though I filled a bath up - I don't have one!

I have cold water in a relatively splutter-y flow on the ground floor at the bottom of Underhill Rd. Been filling up saucepans and the cistern in case it stops again!!!

OK, so have just spoken to Thames Water: 1) The water has been rerouted and should be making its way around the system but at a lower pressure than normal. It will take a while to work it's way round as a large number of properties have been affected. 2) Thames Water now has a permit to work to carry out the repair (they've been waiting for it to be granted apparently) and the gang is on the way, or maybe already on site, to carry out the repair. 3) Once the repair is complete they will remove the rerouter and water will return to its usual pressure. Touch wood we'll all have some water again soon.

The customer services rep at Thames Water said that the Live Map wasn't very 'live'! She directed me to 'network latest' which I haven't found yet... Looking at the Live Map - it has been updated - big red area covering bottom half of Underhill/Melford/Wood Vale/bottom Overhill - with news that repair is underway.

Just phoned Thames Water : there is a burst main in Sydenham Hill SE23 which is having a knock-on effect in SE22 and affecting a wide area. They confirm that engineers on site. See latest updates on thameswater.co.uk 'network latest'

Hi all, Is anyone else having problems with their water today? The water went off for about 30-60 mins yesterday lunchtime and this morning the pressure is low. Thames Water live [http://www.thameswater.co.uk/thameswaterlive/index.htm[ is reporting a leak at Wood Vale/Lordship Lane so this might be affecting the supply to the bottom of Underhill I suppose.

Thanks for your advice Saffron and KidKruger. Hopefully most of the oil went over the counter and other things rather than inside the toaster, but as there was some on the top around the openings presumably a little went in too. I have tried my best to clean it inside and out with paper towels and will take it out into the garden for stage two tomorrow. The bottle leapt out of my hand today - never had to deal with oil inside a toaster before and was rather concerned, but you've made me much more confident in sorting it out. Thanks again.

I accidentally knocked over a bottle of olive oil today and it splashed the toaster - outside, on top and presumably some got inside. I have cleaned up all the oil I can see and have put a kitchen towel around the inside as far as possible, but am worried about causing a fire if there is still some oil in there. Has anyone got any ideas please.

Is your daughter a dual British and Italian national? If so, I'd get advice from an Italian lawyer/Italian embassy regarding name change as there are issues in Italian law with changing names.
