Yet another example of the Kafkaesque immigration system in this country. Sadly not the first time we have seen such a sickening decision. I hope the Minister comes to his senses in time to save Isaac's life. Dulwich College are sponsoring Isaac's brother to come to the UK and paying for his flight once a visa is granted. They have been doing a great deal to support their employee at this vital time. There was a very good segment on London Tonight (ITV) last night, followed by a piece about a charity set up to raise awareness of blood, organ, bone marrow and other forms of medical donation within the Black African, Black Caribbean or mixed race communities.

Thanks Lesley! I think the decorators left so much plaster dust in the bathroom that the drain has become blocked - I have a puddle which won't drain away. I have had one shower since I moved in and am trying to get someone out to look at it.
-
Hi Lesley, thanks for your advice. Can you use normal drain unblockers down the drain in a wet room, or does that add to the problem?
-
I have just moved to a new flat with a wet room. Does anyone have any advice please about maintaining a wet room i.e. keeping floor drainage unblocked, unblocking floor drain, cleaning wet rooms, how to avoid getting water all over the place? I have got some information from google searches, but would be very grateful for any tips. Many thanks.

No personal experience, but you could have a look at these advice sites: http://www.wildlifegardener.co.uk/foxesinthegarden.html http://www.animalaid.org.uk/images/pdf/factfiles/Fox.pdf Also a wildlife charity might have advice about encouraging the to move on, but it might be too early if cubs are still very young. You obviously have a very safe environment in your garden for mother fox to raise her family!

We can hear it over at the Goose Green end of Lordship Lane too.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/128833 The Government should accept the call to give sanctuary to child refugees who are alone and at risk in Europe. 95,000 child refugees are on their own in Europe as a result of the refugee crisis. They are sleeping rough and in makeshift camps, desperately vulnerable to abuse and to trafficking into modern slavery. We rightly look back with pride at the leadership our nation showed in rescuing 10,000 children from Europe through the Kindertransport. Britain must not turn its back on child refugees in Europe today.

Volunteer Teaching / Tutoring Help a visionary headmaster to teach refugee children English, Maths and Science. Dunkirk, France Applicants are required to hold the relevant Visas/Work Permits Background A visionary British Headmaster, Dr Rory Fox, has set-up an emergency school in the Grande-Synthe refugee camp in Dunkirk - in order to keep its 300 children educated. He is urgently seeking volunteer tutors to teach motivated children in the camp under his management. Dr Fox?s camp was recently profiled in the guardian here. Tutor Brief Dr Fox is looking for 20 volunteers to teach English, Maths, Science and French on a part-time basis. This would entail teaching for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Teaching would mainly be on a one-to-one basis as all the children have different needs. Volunteers must be 18+ but don?t need any teaching experience. Logistical and Contractual Details Start date: ASAP Placement length: unspecified as the refuges come and go. Even a week of volunteering could make a real difference, but priority will be given to those who can commit for longer. Accommodation and travel expenses must be covered by the volunteer. The camp is easily accessible from the centre of Dunkirk where relatively cheap accommodation can be found. Compensation details Volunteer position Application Instructions: Send your CV, or put further questions to: [email protected] or [email protected] Source: http://www.escapethecity.org/organisations/keystone-tutors/opportunities/11983-keystone-tutors-volunteer-teaching-tutoring?u=ilona@marchant32.freeserve.co.uk&s=mn&utm_source=All+Subscribers&utm_campaign=9cca9f34c0-GLOBAL_MONDAY_NEWSLETTER_164_24_06_136_18_2013&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_10491b2453-9cca9f34c0-189066625

Can you describe the 'odd shape' please. Is it a variation of a bay window or a door with a window combined? In the meantime, if a door with window, would a door curtain on a portiere (bar which opens with door)be appropriate? Lots of warm velvet door curtains on ebay at this time of year.

L'Institut du Monde Arabe is well worth a visit not just for the exhibitions, but also for the views from the roof terrace and an excellent cafe that serves couscous etc. There is also a restaurant. The architecture of the museum is also fascinating. http://www.imarabe.org/

A London-based photographer has set up a website where photographers can sell their work with all the proceeds going to help refugees. Photographer Mark Sherratt set up Prints for Refugees, after he saw the heart-breaking photograph of the young Aylan Kurdi whose body washed ashore in Turkey. Southwark Housing Repairs - Legal advice needed
IlonaM replied to wonderwoman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The housing team at Cambridge House Law Centre (See: http://www.ch1889.org/)is very good. They have worked wonders for some of my clients. Also look at the Shelter website which gives lots of info and also offers helpline advice (telephone and email). -
Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS) fundraising appeal - Support our runners on 12th July! Several of our clients, volunteers and friends are running in the British 10k London Run on Sunday 12th July 2015. We need to raise some funds to ensure that we can carry on running our day centres. We?re aiming to raise ?5,000 which would help us continue supporting asylum seekers and refugees in Southwark. Last year, thanks to the help of our friends and supporters?and the energy and sweat of our runners! ?we managed to raise nearly ?2,000 which was great. If you think the work we do is important and would like to see us be able to continue, please consider making a donation by logging on to our JustGiving page here. And tell all your friends! Remember, the more we raise the faster we run! Please share our link on Facebook and Twitter ? https://www.justgiving.com/supporttherunners2 About us: Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS) seeks to help relieve poverty and distress, and to promote health and further education for asylum seekers and refugees. We aim to provide a wide range of holistic services which support, promote and secure the rights of asylum seekers and refugees in the London Borough of Southwark. We strive to provide support services and a safe and welcoming environment through day centre provision, to help meet the needs of local asylum seekers. Through general advice and help we hope to facilitate access to a range of mainstream services, with particular emphasis on health, housing, employment, training, education and asylum issues. The sociable atmosphere of the day centres provides our clients with the opportunity to build their own social networks, which reduces the level of isolation so often felt in this disenfranchised group.
