Attempted break in on Upland Road
JohnL replied to Kollyflower's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Some comments are way to close to "if girls wear short skirts...." You can choose to do what you want ... but don't ask others who choose to assess their own risk and may never ever be a victim of crime due to their own risk management. -
rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Can we have a referendum about whether or not to > keep the Welsh? Get into an argument with the Welsh and it'll go on and on and on - but nothing will ever happen. Still arguing about Vortigern and the Saxons (Don't believe the new peace deal in Welsh Rugby either - it's a short break)
-
I only hear this because of the rugby connotation (it's a regular argument on rugby boards) Wiki does have a short mention that the Irish Government doesn't recognise the term (if you believe Wiki) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Isles I like the optional replacement term 'these islands' - dour :)
-
The Irish don't like the term British Isles - an argument that goes on every time the British and Irish Lions are referred to as British Lions (as in British Isles). Also realised yesterday Isle of Man and Jersey are not UK but crown dependencies maxxi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've always thought of us all (English, Irish, > Scots, Welsh) as British Islanders. I can't help but look for a flag when I walk past. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What happened to the previous chef this time? > > And is there a new manager too? > > And is it still a gay bar? > > ETA: My popcorn at the ready too :)

If you cycle in London, this should be of interest
JohnL replied to Medley's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Segregation - If it really feels safe - I'd cycle in London :) -
I remember the results for Devolution - the No vote led all night until a huge number of yes votes from the Carmarthen area won it 50.1 to 49.9. Now most Welsh people agree, the Assembly isn't to bad. Charlton Lido is heated - and only just changed to be so in the last year. http://www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/news/article/91/historic_charlton_lido_reopens_after_2million_facelift david_carnell Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Heated? Easy You turn ED into an upmarket resort like Sandals.

My facebook timeline is full of it now Pubs are nominating each other - and a load of videos of what happens when it goes wrong

The British Embassy in the US celebrated 1814 with a cake I think they've managed to get away with it as banter :). http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2014/08/25/british-embassy-apologizes-for-tweet-commemorating-the-burning-the-white-house-but-not-for-the-actual-burning-of-the-white-house/

My mother actually requested in her will that some people wear brighter clothing I then realised that most people (us Welsh anyway) will still stick to black anyway. She also replaced the priest with a spiritual friend (at least he knew her really well)..

All the facebook videos I've seen explicitly say they will donate. I did see an Aussie newscaster putting down the challenge cleverly mind.

Could we ban single use carrier bags in ED?
JohnL replied to NicoleChampion's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Brought some Sainsbury bags on Saturday - my broken ones were Asda. Lets see if I can make these last :) Much more packaging from products goes in my bin than bags mind. -

They give you another free one - and another :) great for me Not for the planet as I am a bag breaker. I give the broken one back - maybe it goes ... to landfill. Could we ban single use carrier bags in ED?
JohnL replied to NicoleChampion's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not sure, but I hear theres not much bang in this buck. Maybe I'm rough with them - but my "lifetime bags" fall apart after three trips or so. So effectively - I'll be paying slightly more for a thick plastic bag - I will then throw after a few weeks. -
Some lanes seem to be different as demonstrated by our lane (Rye Lane) - I think our noise (buses, parties on the road (the bakery), arguments, whistling, people heading home early at 3:00 AM) trumps yours (in the nicest possible way):) To do something about it would be called gentrification up here (I guess). This pub actually seems to have some good reviews anyway. On a similar note walked into two pubs with no football on yesterday and people were eating - disgusted ;) - luckily the Rye had their big screen up :) it's the Premier League folks.
