  1. I found a recommendation for Liam on the EDF and thought I would give him a try. I'm so glad I did. He was punctual, knowledgable and efficient. He did exactly as I asked and charged exactly what he quoted, which was very reasonable. He can be contacted on 07943274067. I would have no hesitation in using him again and I am already planning to.
  2. Claire's accessories have lots of tutu's.
  3. Steve just fixed my dishwasher and tumble dryer. He came when he said he would and was quick, efficient and not expensive. I am so relieved to have my appliances in working order again. I wish I had phoned him weeks ago. I would definitely recommend.
  4. We had Dainty Sue on Sunday and she was fantastic! She kept 52 children (aged 4, 5 and 6) completely entertained and under control. Would definitely recommend her.
  5. Thank you so much for all your responses. I have forwarded them to my sister.
  6. My sister and her Canadian husband have been living in Vancouver for the last 14 years and they have now decided to return to the uk. They used to live in Fulham but having visited us most Christmases in recent years they really want to move to East Dulwich. They have 2 daughters of 15 and 13. They are concerned about their eldest and her transition from the Canadian to Uk education systems. Is the coursework that she has done in Grade 9/10 (uk 10/11) sufficient to have her enter year 12. Will some assessment of her work and grades be required for comparison? Is the fact her birthday is in November a problem? If she was required to enter in Year 11 would she be able to take some GCSE's despite missing uk year 10 coursework? Would the IB system be better for her? My sister really doesn't want her daughter to have to repeat 2 years and be in the same class as her younger sister. They are actively house hunting but want to start applying for schools ASAP. Will not having an address cause problems and is catchment area still such a big deal for entry further up the school? If anyone has any information we would be really grateful.
  7. This has always driven me mad. It's bad enough when people spot a space and slide in oportunistically but I have seen people stop and queue for a space keeping me waiting behind with 2 screaming kids grrrrrr!
  8. Creams can contain preservatives which can irritate eczema. Suggest you try an ointment instead. My little one developed eczema at 6 months and we found diprobase ointment (no steroids so you can apply liberally) did the trick. We applied throughout the day at the beginning and once under control morning and evening as a preventative measure. we still use now and she's recently turned 4!! If its any consolation, eczema is often something kids grow out of. Finally avoid using steroid creams if you can but they do work very well if the eczema is bad and makes sure he doesn't scratch!
  9. Does anyone know of any reasonably local swimming lessons for just 4 year old on Mondays?
  10. In the earky hours of 18 December I rolled out of a taxi the worse for wear and dropped my wallet. The first I knew about it was later that morning when I received a call on my mobile saying it had been found. Two very kind and lovely women had found it and taken the trouble to go through all my rubbish/receipts/money etc and found my name, address and telephone number on my William Rose turkey deposit slip! A few moments later they delivered my wallet to me fully intact, I was too hungover/befuddled to say anything much but I am incredibly grateful. It would have been a total disaster to have had to cancel all my cards a week before Christmas! If it was you then a massive THANK YOU. I will do my best to pay it forward.
  11. I also have an HTC Desire on T-Mobile, great reception, very fast internet. It's also Flash enabled so better than my partners iphone!
  12. No, not for kids at the school. Superkids is an independant swim school that hold lessons in various venues including St Thomas the Apostle school. They are really good. And just in case anyone is interested a friend has just called to say lessons are not back on until next Saturday (6th November).
  13. Does anyone know if swimming lessons resume on Saturday at St Thomas in Nunhead?
  14. Our 3 year old daughter has had eczema since she was a few weeks old, sometimes really very bad and sometimes much better but she has always had it. We have tried everything and now have a routine that keeps things under control. She has oilatum in her bath, we use diprobase on her whole body after bath at night and before getting dressed in the morning. We get this on precription as we get through loads of it and it's quite expensive to buy. With really nasty flare ups we use eumovate steroid cream and if scratching is really bad we give her baby Piriton syrup. This really calms her down and helps her get a good nights sleep. As she is getting older it is getting better and we are hopeful that she will grow out of it. I know it seems like a never ending nightmare at the time but hopefully it will get better and you will find a a routine that makes your little one a bit more comfortable in the meantime.
  15. Yes I agree Pepsi. I don't believe that anyone would choose to sit outside Somerfield selling the BI if they didn't need to, it must be really hard. I am surprised people feel they have any right to question what they spend their very hard earned money on. It makes me feel a bit sad that so many people sound rather mean spirited.....obviously not sad enough to move to Nunhead! :))
  16. We have a bugaboo chamelean as main buggy (my 3 year old still goes in it somertimes) and a maclaran volo for the boot and travel. Very lightweight and can collapse and unfold with one hand/foot movement.
  17. We are taking our 3 year old and 6 year old to Thailand in April and are really looking forward to it. We took our son to Malaysia when he was two and he was fine, really loved it. The humid heat of the far east is actually easier for young children to cope with than dry heat. Try and get direct flights and night flights if possible to maximise flying time sleep and minimise jet lag on arrival. If your child sleeps well in his/her car seat ask the airline if you can bring it onto the plane. It has to be airline approved as they don't all fit the seats. We took a Maxi Cosi Priori XP which reclines quite nicely to Langkawi. After a spot of supper a few episodes of Pingu and a story he slept about 7 hours until breakfast was served. Also request toddlers meals. Have a wonderful holiday!
  18. How are the roads today? I need to decide whether to take my daughter to nursery. Would need to get from Forrest Hill road area to Denmark Hill area. Too dangerous or fine? Also bit frustrated that Heber is closed again. My son is obviously thrilled...groan. Does anyone know why? With public transport up and running so staff can come in, is it about the safety of the roads/pavements surrounding the school?
  19. We used Choice Healthcare for both our children. They have clinic in Harley street on Sunday mornings (easy drive and no parking restrictions) and also had a clinic in Croydon which I think has moved to Penge. However my 2 year old is still waithing (over a year now) for the Mumps vaccine. They keep saying that it will be available in a few months but it never comes. There is little point in getting the first 2 without the 3rd so MMR may be only option. Yes some of us are still bothering with single jabs. Whilst fully respecting the decision of the majority of people to opt for combined vaccine and aknowleding that the combined MMR is probably completely safe, some of us don't mind the additional hassle or expense of giving single vaccines which carry none of the associated real or imagined risks of autism or bowel cancer. Others opt for the single vaccine because they don't like the idea of a triple dose of vaccine being injected into their baby and overloading their immune system. Parents should be able to make their own choice without being judged Having said that, the risks of no vaccine far outweigh the risks of having the MMR so from my own perspective, if no single jabs were available I would have the triple MMR. If the mumps vaccine doesn't turn up in the near future my daughter will be given the triple jab and will no doubt be completely fine.
  20. We love Cafe Noodle, great value and always fresh and yummy. My Lui's is OK but a bit fragrant and old fashioned. Only been to Chopstix once, quite a while ago, it was really surprisingly horrible!
