  1. 4! The number of times I've seen 3 wheelers topple... Don't do it!
  2. Depends on which part of islington you are in Zeban and yes, you can keep south london. Dulwich is suburban and aptly named. A friend and I had a minor dispute over whether it meant dull or not. His finding was that Dulwich was derived from "Dill Field". My better research came up that "Dill" is old saxon for Dull. Dull Field it is. Different strokes for different folks. I got fed up with the posh/common black/white segregations. I'm fond of Dulwich, it has a charm but I wouldn't live there again and by the looks of it neither does a lot of this board. meh.
  3. I moved back to islington. Suburbia was not for me. Central enough that we have cctv everywhere which keeps crime down and very quiet in the evenings when everyone has left work. I love it.
  4. My child went to Rainbow smiles for a few months and I have to say it was terrible. Shouting at the kids, dragging them and yanking at them when they didn't listen to the shouting. The owners let their teenage boys look after the children (illegally, underage and no crb check). My child came home bruised regularly and when I asked to look at the cctv they themselves promised was there for parents to see, it was unavaible for the incidents. My child became worringly withdrawn. Rainbow Smiles regularly have spaces open because people take their children out after a time and there have been lots of complaints. There seems to be an awareness about the dragging and shouting but I guess some people are comfortable with it, personally, I didn't agree with. Looks great initially but having gone through it, I wouldn't inflict it on anyone, let alone my baby. Just put your name down for Nellys and hope for the best, they were asking for people on here a few months back, sometimes a spot opens up...
  5. Dulwich is now in the top ten areas for crime in london. I found a really good way to avoid the car, bike, pot plant theift, the break ins, the muggings, the scammers, the pub prices was just to leave dulwich.
  6. Not a cyclist or a dog owner but it seems very clear to me where the road is and where the masses of open field is. One would think common sense would prevail but then those dog owners seem blind to the signs which say not to take dogs off leads and don't care about terrorizing young children. Seeing as dulwich park hires out bikes and the road is VERY wide why don't the dog owners keep off the road. They could also keep their dogs on leads so I don't have to drag the rotten shit machines away from my child. I say well done becca.
  7. I did complain to the stall holder. I saw a bag I liked, gave over my money very politely and waited for my change. As I was waiting I looked a little more at her stall and saw three golliwog dolls. I said I was not interested in the bag anymore, could I have my money back please. She asked why and I said I do not spend my money with people who sell gollywogs, why would you you sell these things? She had no come back except to give me my change and look down at the ground until I walked away. Someone else noticed my question and took a photo of the offending items. Usually I would have made more of a fuss to be honest but my young child was with me and I didn't want to cause a scene and ruin the nice experience of the fair in general. I was quite offended by its presence and couldn't understand why someone would think that was ok. So I thought I would ask here. Just because sometimes a conversation has an ugly element to it doesn't mean you should hide and avoid it because it just gets uglier - be brave and tackle it. Doesn't require a fight just a bit of manning up. I suppose I take these things seriously because I don't think somethings need to be perpetuated.
  8. People have called me a liar. Things (and people) in life are not always so black and white. I was merely offering explanation. I'm not after any kind of argument but rather a reasonable discussion. I was curious to know what the consensus is on such subjects. As the topic is racial in nature I understand that people will subvert the focus away from the topic and come up with special and random defense. It is possible to keep it a discussion. A ten year old is at the mercy of his parents choices and not what I'm discussing Kruger - the point is why are people still trying to sell golliwogs when they are something to be embarrassed about and forgotten. When discussed with various black persons the consensus is unanimous - this is some offensive nastiness that does not need to be happening at all. In this instance in particular does not need to come with a matching mug and plate set. If you want to side step colour then when I saw nazi memorabilia being sold at last years dulwich fair on an antiques stall I thought that was quite dodgy too. This photo is from the stall. She was selling girly bedroom stuff.

I'm not a liar. I didn't say I was white either. I'm an of mixed heritage which includes malay, spanish, irish, english, dutch and bajan. When I was a teenager if you weren't white you were seen as black but as an adult I take time to consider all my makers including my white family. I This is not a troll post but rather a serious question. I get that people round these parts are quite ignorant in regards to black culture and think that gollywogs and lynch mobs are a joking matter but these are quite seriously offensive things to black people and are not taken lightly. I appreciate that perhaps you don't find a black person depicted as a slave offensive but perhaps gollyhonky should get a whip and some shackles so so the non white folk can have a big laugh about how english folk used to travel the globe and capture people to keep as pets and use for hard labour. Hilarious. I'm not a troll and don't think such things are funny or worth discussing for amusement. Granted it has now been established that there is a collective of daily mail writers living among you so I'm not expecting anything amazing but there is clearly a need for discussion and education on racial matters around here because you lot come up with some serious BS sometimes.
  10. Yes, I found it offensive. What is not offensive about having a toy that is based on a black male slave? Specifically a slave that the super rich would have to display their wealth. So rich they could afford to keep a field worker dressed civilly and have him in the house and obedient. It was seen as a thrill and a bit of a challenge. The reason there was a golliwog on the robinson's jam is that this black male slave got to hand out the jam in privileged homes. Hence making it to the jam jar as an aspirational ideal. Do I think it is offensive to have a toy that depicts a black person as pet and play thing specifically within the setting of a slave? That children would keep. There was good reason that robinsons finally lost the gollywog and they had to remake noddy. We've all seen the extras episode. I'd have dumped her in a second. A golly is a golliwog Gollywog Just because some enterprising soul decided to drop the wog bit down the line does not detract away from the original idea. No I'm not black and I don't think you have to be to care.
  11. ...Did anyone see the golliwogs for sale? I was a bit surprised.
  12. The seed swap was brilliant, thanks a million to the ladies to bought the perpetual spinach along I've been looking for some for ages!
