It's ok. Nothing special. Matoom in Forest Hill is much better (IMO).

We live on a double decker bus route and have experienced this in the recent past due to a pothole in the road. Once that pothole was fixed, it's gone back to normal, but one thing that did help was getting our windows looked at and getting the seal around the windows renewed (we have heavy, aluminium frame windows). Once we stopped the windows from vibrating the travel through the rest of the house was much less for us (even though we couldn't particularly hear the windows moving, but that seemed to be the main vibration point for us).

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
Siduhe replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks Penguin68. I'm sure that will be what they suggest - but it seems insane to charge someone who has 2-4 bags a year (mostly of leaves that blow into our front drive) the same as someone who fills a brown bin with grass and other garden stuff more regularly. Agree it will just lead to people dumping garden waste or mixing it in with other rubbish. And edited to add, at the risk of picking an edge case to make a point - does that mean Southwark won't be collecting Christmas trees in January unless people have specifically paid for the brown bin collection? I can see that being something of an eyesore... -
Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?

Will be interesting to know if this also applies to collection of the garden waste bags? I assume it will have to, otherwise everyone will just swap to those. We don't have a brown bin but we do use the bags a few times a year. How will that be provided for? -

They probably have very little idea > of how much they are spending. I think there has been a bit of a sea change in terms of some of the technology that's now available. I used to use cash almost exclusively, for exactly the reason you mention DF - easier to keep track of spending and feels a bit more "real" - less likely to splurge on things. Now I use a Monzo card which I can upload with my monthly budget, and which gives me real time updates on my spending against budget. So I use contactless much more but feel like I get a much better sense of what I'm spending my money on from the Monzo app then I ever did when I used cash, including a really useful "will I have enough left over for the end of the month" feature. So I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that just because someone is using contactless, they aren't on top of what they are spending. They may be getting that information in a different way from what you are used to.

Interestingly the traffic has also been much better on the South Circular where the water main works are in the last two days - a very noticeable drop off in traffic. I wonder if people are using alternative routes to pass through Southwark given the impact of those works (which might in turn affect traffic flows a bit further north at the other end of the Lane)

Is there any more we can do about dog poo?
Siduhe replied to aandl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Many years ago, when we lived in SE1 there was a weird but very successful local operation to spray uncleared up dog-poo gold or silver and pop a little flag in it. It was in a particular area or street and aimed at one or two locals who everyone knew didn't clear up after their dogs, and residents got so fed up they started trying to draw attention to it and effectively call out those few people who weren't clearing up their local streets. Apparently it worked really well. I will see if the thread is still up on the SE1 Forum. -
Anyone see? Near corner underhill/ st aidans
Siduhe replied to alice's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Our neighbours on Underhill/Melford had the same with their builders a couple of weeks ago - possible it's the same people although I don't think they got any description. Worth reporting to the police if you haven't already. -
CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich

According to the detailed maps attached to the consultation, it's not included. See 3 of 5 in the consultation pack: https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/eastdulwichparking/supporting_documents/Map%203%20of%205.pdf -

Changed the first post and the title above so hopefully that does it.

CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich

intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > CPZ affect on shops in Lordship Lane aired on BBC London 8.18am > https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live:bbc_london Thanks for this - thought it was a fair summary by the owner of Roullier White, in particular acknowledging there are issues and if the majority are in favour of the scheme then it's something that business owners will need to deal with, but the response from Southwark Councillor Richard Livingston rather suggests that he sees the case for deterring commuter parking as overriding the other considerations. -

CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich
Siduhe replied to dulwichresident01's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is an older thread somewhere about this, but Southwark is also consulting on its 20 year Movement Plan at the moment, which will set the direction of transport planning across Southwark for many years to come. There are some interesting statements in the context of this separate CPZ consultation: https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/movement-plan/ The consultation closes next week - if you have views about the direction of transport planning in our area then this is an important one to fill in too. -
Overhill/Belvoir/Underhill roads being used as a bypass
Siduhe replied to bobbsy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Same on Melford/Underhill. Much hooting of horns, and shouting as people try to pass the parked cars. -
185 is back on diversion on Lordship lane again
Siduhe replied to trinidad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The 185 definitely is - and the road is still shut - so very likely. -

intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don't share your optimism Sidhue . > ??? Not me I think. And yes, the long closure is going to be a PITA. But on balance if it fixes the 3/4 times a year the main bursts and our water gets cut off, I can live with it. -
5th Feb 11am - avoid Woodvale Horniman area. Road closed
Siduhe replied to Ginster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
To be clear, the lorry was coming from Forest Hill on the South Circular towards East Dulwich - he and at least 10 other cars drove around the "road closed" signs by the petrol station, and again by the Sydenham Hill turning, then got stuck just before the road works opposite Wood Vale (i.e. on the other side of the road). Total idiots. The right turn from Sydenham Hill seemed to be working ok other than the fact that people were ignoring the road closed signs the other way. -

Siduhe replied to Ginster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not helped by the idiots driving on the wrong side of the road through the ?road closed? signs, to discuovet the road is indeed CLOSED [who would have thought it?]. Cue lots of three point turns, including from an articulated Screwfix lorry which got stuck. Police motorbike rider on scene as of 20 mins ago to help with traffic control. -
No water Underhill Rd (Horniman end) - anyone else affected?
Siduhe replied to IlonaM's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I reported that leak at the Northcrofts houses four days in a row (about two weeks ago) before they came out to do what they described as a ?temporary fix?. I wonder if this is related to that. Either way, they were really slow to deal with it and it was only when I sent them a video of water pouring down the hill that they swung into action. Sigh. -
The policy that Southwark follow is here - https://www.southwark.gov.uk/street-care/gritting. They were out last night so I would guess the same will apply tonight.

CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich
Siduhe replied to dulwichresident01's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The thing that has been eye-opening for me is the idea that Southwark are reliant on the revenue from CPZs to run more general transport, street services and initiatives. In other words this isn't [entirely] about deterring commuter parking, or covering the costs of the actual CPZ scheme, but is needed at some level to cover other transport improvements/services under the general transport budget. If that's right, and Southwark Council officers appear to acknowledge this - it makes sense of their desire/need to implement CPZs throughout the borough even when these are not widely being asked for, or across a broad area where parking stress is (at least on the reports here) more localised. It also makes sense of the idea that homes can apply for three permits - each home! If the aim is to deter parking and get people to use other forms of transport, three permits per household makes no sense. As I've said elsewhere, as someone who lives just outside the proposed zone but walks, cycles and drives to the businesses on Lordship Lane where I do the bulk of my shopping - this isn't going to stop me popping in to North Cross Road market occasionally, but it is going to make me think about moving from the Neighbourhood Vet (if it's an all day scheme, as opposed to one for a couple of hours) as well as going elsewhere to do a more substantial shop. I appreciate that other people have different needs - especially those with young children - where being able to drive them places in a car and then come back and park near home is seen as pretty essential for those years in particular. -
Cattery recommendation? Cats + building work worries
Siduhe replied to redjam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm just about to do exactly the same thing (board cats for first time due to building works). I've gone for Moggie Minders in Catford which isn't the most high end local option but I like the approach of the owner and the set up, particularly that our cats can share a space, which they will prefer. Will report back on how it goes!
