Planning application submitted for new DHFC stadium
Siduhe replied to BrandNewGuy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The most interesting bit of that article for me is this: (my emphasis) That reads to me as an invitation to come back with a development proposal that meets more of Southwark's needs at a slightly lower profit for the developer, and to stop using the future of Dulwich Hamlet as a bargaining chip in the development discussions. I suspect we haven't heard the last of this. -

Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation
Siduhe replied to CityMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The explanation doesn't make commercial sense to me at all (why would you install new signs just at the point you finalise a consultation which could, in theory, lead to the bridge being reopened?), but I also tend to believe it's a true and real explanation - and it's good news for those of us who like to believe that consultations do have an impact. The timing just sucks and I can't believe they didn't think about how it would look though. -

James, would you be able to raise an issue with Southwark Council which has come up on the Camberwell Grove consultation thread (see http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1870355,page=7 ). Lots of people have views and many people on both sides have responded to the Southwark Consultation which closed 2 days ago. The consultation begins as follows: What seems to have happened in the last two days is that signs, which look permanent, have been installed showing a permanent diversion away from the bridge and a permanent bridge closure. As rendelharris put it - no matter what side of the debate you're on, this seems like an astonishing lack of regard for a public consultation process. I really can't believe Southwark would offer a consultation but then pre-judge outcome in this way. If there's an explanation for what's happening, it would be really good to hear what it is. -

The consultation closed two days ago - is this when the signs first went up? If so, that implies an astonishing disregard for the consultation process. -
Thanks nxjen, really interesting - surprised that the tenant has carried on paying rent, unless it's just a way to stop a competitor taking on the site. Stonegate's closest other pub is the Bird in Hand in Forest Hill.

I don't think the Dulwich Estate are planning to turn it into social housing. If they were, I'm sure the council would go for it given they've also suggested it could be converted into a care home.
-
Thanks for this - we live close by and will come along. My understanding (gleaned on here more than anything) is that the Dulwich Estate want to turn it into housing (and have declined approaches from supermarkets and fast food outlets) and the Council want it to go back into commercial use or as an old people's home. Does anyone know if that's the latest state of play? I would love to see it reopen as a pub but - as was pointed out last time I said that - it just doesn't seem to be viable.

Ed, do you mean on the traffic island in the middle of the South Circular? If so, I thought the removal of the railings was quite helpful - as the crossing is stepped and not in sync (so you always have to wait for the other side of the road to go red to cross), it can get quite crowded and particularly if there is more than one buggy trying to cross - whereas now you can use the whole width of the island to stand and wait for the other light to change. I can see that the railings are a useful corral if you have small children walking with you and a buggy though. -
I don't think anyone who replied to your previous threads thought it was acceptable ( http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1866488,1866488#msg-1866488 or http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1862321,1862321#msg-1862321). I would certainly take it up with the school/afterschool club, perhaps depending on the age of the child.

Wedding reception venue in ED/Peckham area

Hi Ash, great to see you're back spamming the forum with your North American links again. How is Toronto this time of year? -
Reminded of this thread as I'm sitting at the bus stop by Harris Boys school with an empty coach (Coaches Excetera) parked up blocking the actual bus stop where the driver has just refused to cut his engine off as "he needs it running for the children". FFS.

Virgin Media Outage - Northcross Road
Siduhe replied to Neil.P's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We have BT Infinity on Underhill/Melford - it's pretty much rock solid - one serious outage in the last 12 months. Lasted 5 hours and affected most of London. Otherwise, other than the occasional reboot of our router, it's great - average 50mbps at peak times (helps that Underhill/Melford isn't far from the exchange). You do pay a fair amount more for BT than Virgin and I suspect Sky, but for us it's worth it. -
Bad accident north Dulwich junction
Siduhe replied to sanity girl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We went past about 20 mins ago. Junction is now clear but cars are by side of road. They had to cut open the side and roof of one. Hope no one was badly hurt. -
Same here - ?35 cut (best cut I have ever had for my hair - been going to see this hairdresser for several years) and ?5 tip which she splits if someone else washes my hair, not her.

This might not be related but there was a huge dump of emails and passwords recently - discovered a couple of weeks ago but likely stolen a while back. Have a check against your address on the HaveIBeenPwned site linked above. Apparently these addresses were particularly being used to send email via SMTP - this could be why you're seeing emails from yourself. May be worth changing your email password just in case. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/aug/30/spambot-leaks-700m-email-addresses-huge-data-breach-passwords

I use MyUs.com - basically the shop sends the package to them in the US and then MyUS send on. It works really well, but is designed for online shops who won't ship outside the US. You can probably get shipping cheaper if the shop will deal with an international shopper direct.

stolen car (a car abandoned outside my house in Oglander Rd)
Siduhe replied to oglander's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Y782MHP doesn't exist according to the UK.Gov website. Y782MHD exists and is a blue Ford Focus. So, either it's Y782MHP and it's a fake plate in which case someone should be interested, or it's Y782MHD in which case it's taxed and MOT'd but the MOT runs out in September 2017 - in which case someone should move it and/or someone should be interested if it isn't MOT'd. Looks like Y782MHD from the photo above. -

Is the ref Y782MHD (not P)? If so looks like it is taxed but will be out of MOT on 17 September. They will have to move it for an MOT or it will be out of MOT and the police/council should then act. -
I don't think this has been mentioned elsewhere. There is a new-ish restaurant on Goldsmiths Road by the same people from the Old Spike Roastery called Aside. It's firmly in the trendy camp - sharing plates, 2 word menu descriptions and bare, noisy room, but the food is good, the staff are lovely and they do a cracking cocktail.
