Connecting East Dulwich to Crystal Palace
Siduhe replied to mmills's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The 363 is heavily used in the mornings by boys/girls from CP travelling to the Harris schools - which it's well suited for given its route. If I travel at peak school rush time it can be difficult to get on sometimes (I get on at Underhill Road) so there's not much extra capacity at peak, peak times. As a result I either get on before 7:30 or at 8:30 when it's a lot quieter. -
@Mellors, thank you - that's not too far from me at all - and the walk up hill will do me good! Appreciated.

Thanks. Unfortunately I work so the mobile unit doesn't help me. If there is somewhere closer than Devon Street that would really help.

Renata thanks for this, but what about textiles? You could recycle these at Sainsbury's. So far as I'm aware you can't don't this via normal bin collections in Southwark. I'm really struggling to find anywhere close by to recycle clothes that are too far gone for a charity shop. I have emailed the Environmental team (2 weeks ago) but not yet had a response. Could you ask?

Grove tavern to reopen. Fact or fiction.

I'd rather have a pub than a care home, but I'd rather have a care home than a redevelopment of 1/2 bed luxury flats which is what the Dulwich Estate appeared to be holding out for. Agree that pedestrian access would need to be improved a lot! -
It likely depends on whether you are now classed as a "consumer buy to let" borrower following the implementation of MCOB in the UK. If you are, the banks have to include lots of new procedures and safeguards for you - more similar to a residential mortgage contract. Many of them prefer not to do that and to deal only with those who are classed as business buy to let borrowers.

Re Smartwater - isn't there an annual subscription fee you have to sign up to in order for them to maintain the record of which "watermark" is yours? I looked into it (several years ago, so may have changed) and after 12 months they charge you a subscription fee. If you don't pay, they delete your record from their database. Would be interested to know if this has changed in which case I will look at it again.

local recycling bins- where have they gone?
Siduhe replied to Huggers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's not just recycling - our green bin collection was missed this week and the advice from Southwark Environmental was to drive the rubbish to the Devon Road/OKR facility as they couldn't guarantee they would be able to do a missed bin collection within 7 days due to "heavy demand". Also, in case anyone is thinking of doing the same - the hours at the Devon Road facility have changed from 2 Jan: -
I can confirm that the trees are being collected by teams driving in the caged Southwark vans rather than the normal brown bin collectors. I managed to flag one down on our street to collect ours - it was left out the front on our drive but they had driven past so you definitely need to make it more visible than I did!

And, as has been pointed out, the truck isn't much use for those who work office hours, even if it does come back. Seems a very short sighted decision if this is the case.

You can fill in the on-line survey here - https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/north-cross-road-market-extension/consultation/intro/

I think that the changes to LL over the last few years (20mph, more crossing points etc) have definitely given it more of a "shared space" feel - people feel comfortable crossing where ever, not just at the crossing points and as a driver, I kind of expect them to do this now and slow down/give way accordingly. It does feel a bit odd to be doing this on such a main road and if you didn't know the area then I can see why it might be dangerous, but I don't mind it that much myself if its done with courtesy and an acknowledgement that there is a driver giving way. If someone just walks out - particularly with children - or takes a slow diagonal meander across the road, then I would share the frustration.

I think it had fallen off the first page. Here's the link including to the consultation docs, if anyone needs. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1765094,1765094#msg-1765094

Proposed 10km new double yellow lines across Dulwich
Siduhe replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Interestingly, when you file a response to consultation this is what the follow on page says: The decision of how to proceed will be determined by the community council at a later date. So they seem to accept the DCC should be the decision making body. -
I'm pretty sure I remember someone posting on here which said you could book a collection by telephone, but only if you could convince the operator that you were unable to do it online. Might be worth a call to Southwark Environmental to see if this is possible for your neighbour. Edited to add, I hadn't appreciated she'd already tried this. It still might be worth her trying again and seeing if she gets someone more sympathetic - or speaking to her local councillor - this is the sort of thing they should be able to take this up on her behalf.

As far as I can tell, the lights only go red if a pedestrian pushes the button to cross - which is why they are often green. I also think they are synced so they can only go red when traffic is turning out of Sainsburys - not when traffic if flowing down DKH (which kind of makes sense given how much faster that traffic is usually). I have no special knowledge so may be totally wrong about this, but just my observation.

Trains just getting worse? What can we do?
Siduhe replied to James's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So depressing, particularly this bit: Thanks but we don't need new ideas testing on us, we need proper investment and focus on the service and London commuters (not just those from the Home Counties). This is what TFL would likely have given us, or at least tried to. This blog from September re similar discussions in City Hall makes interesting reading though. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/davehillblog/2016/sep/14/is-chris-grayling-really-sold-on-london-suburban-rail-devolution -
Beej Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ok, while we're on the subject, can people please > pull away a bit faster when it turns green - jeez > louise, world wars have been fought in less time. When I pull away slowly it's normally because I'm at a junction where I can see the traffic on the cross-way hasn't stopped, or there's a cyclist or motorbike that might be tempted to chance the lights. I definitely pull away more slowly now at some junctions, after a few close misses where I could have hurt someone if I'd driven at speed.

I am a big fan of Trinidadian roti (esp roti channa) and Bajan Spice in Nunhead used to be pretty good for that - haven't tried recently. For Malaysian roti, Peckham's Helen Graves (foodstories) reckons Euston (which isn't at all local, per the OPs request), but thought I would share: http://londonist.com/2015/07/three-of-london-s-best-rotis

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Siduhe replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > when I challenged the planning officers explaining > about parking stress and how terrible the loss of > car park is they told me the area doesn't have a > CPOZ so can;t be under parking stress!!!! James, thanks - we've seen the same approach taken by the case officer in respect of the East Dulwich Hotel planning application - no CPZ, no "parking stress". So I thought it would do a bit of looking around and there is an fairly recent Southwark commissioned, Conway report which has an interesting discussion of "parking stress" - a key factor of which is said to be occupation of spaces by "non-resident" vehicles. The bold/underlining is mine. So this idea of no CPZ always = no parking stress doesn't make any sense (on Southwark's own report/criteria) as it's perfectly possible for an area to have parking stress (lots of cars parked) without being suitable for a CPZ (lots of non-resident cars parked).
