East Dulwich Hotel - any info on what's happening?
Siduhe replied to Jo31's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is the pretty astonishing statement to me - I'm not one for conspiracy theories but it strikes an interesting note in light of the "yellow lines for 10m either side of junctions thread" So, unless we have a CPZ, Southwark is saying that they don't recognise parking stresses in the area? Is this just badly worded or is it as blatant as it seems to be (i.e. unless you agree/demand a CPZ we won't take account of parking in your area when considering planning issues)? -
Issues with Virgin Media - anyone having similar problems?
Siduhe replied to colbol2010's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've just put my postcode in (we also have BT Infinity) and it's suggesting I should be getting 56mb download, which is about right. -
I would google "Lazy Susan Dip Set" or similar - not specially for nuts but should give you some options with bowls.

Bus noise on Red Post Hill
Siduhe replied to redposthillresident's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As someone who lives on a minor street that is part of the 363/N63 route I sympathise - we're also right by a speed bump which used to make the house shake whenever a bus went over it at speed when I first moved here 10 odd years ago. That said, we also got used to it quickly and as I travel into work on the 363 most days, it seems like a fair trade off for me. Since the 363 route moved over to hybrid vehicles a few months ago, it's been amazingly quiet especially at night. Practically, one thing that helped was getting our windowpanes/frames properly sealed so they didn't rattle or shake as much when buses went past. And when the council resurfaced our bit of road and re-contoured the speed bumps, there was a noticeable drop-off in noise too. Not sure if either are options for the OP but hope this is helpful if so. -

Planning application submitted for new DHFC stadium
Siduhe replied to BrandNewGuy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's worth looking at the accompanying letter to the application (which I've attached here). What the developer seems to be saying is that the discharges are needed to allow the development they've applied for to go ahead, and that provision of the replacement facilities will "be secured by a new section 106 obligation". But crucially they don't say what that replacement s106 will be and whether it will be equivalent to the existing s.106. Rather than objecting outright (unless you also object to the development entirely), I think what fans might want to ask for is that the s106 is not lifted unless there is a legally binding commitment from the developer to enter into an equivalent provisions in the new s106 for the new facilities, so that the protections are equivalent. -
Just to add to my post above http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1719628,1742424#msg-1742424 - I got my reply from Thames Water to say that ?30 was automatically credited to my account at the end of September. I've checked online and it shows as me having made an extra payment of ?30 rather than being a credit from TW, but it's definitely there. Everyone else affected should have received the same - so it worth going online and checking or phoning them. No question or challenge to the payment being due (although it was described as a "goodwill payment" by TW in their email to me, which of course it isn't!).

For a special occasion, a good friend of mine (Londoner, now based in NY) swears by the Rainbow Room at the Rockerfeller Center. 67 floors up and "old school" New York dining.

Does the Old Kent Road Refuse and Recycling Centre accept mattresses?
Siduhe replied to ondined's topic in The Lounge
malumbu, do you mean Langton Rise? If so, I drove down there this weekend and saw all the mattresses - have never seen that there before but maybe I've missed them. I would guess it's the same person, likely a disreputable waste collector who has been paid to take them away, rather than an actual resident. -
Heber Road - dangerous wall - please avoid
Siduhe replied to Awkward Knee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm surprised the builders haven't put up hazard markings or at least marked the area off pending getting whatever licence they need. Safety should come first. -
1. Put up a sign - no cold callers - or similar. They should respect that. 2. Tell them you're a practising Roman Catholic - works for me instantly every time.

Planning Applications - how to access older documents ????
Siduhe replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
Ah, apologies, I was slow on the uptake. What's odd is that documents are only not available for decided applications. If the application was withdrawn or found to be non-compliant there is a link to the Archived Planning TP Case files which has the final decision letter on it. I wonder if they only keep documents for a set period - 10 years for example. I think you're right the only way is to ask them direct. -
Planning Applications - how to access older documents ????
Siduhe replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
How far back are you looking? I've just checked and I can see the planning applications for my house which was 2005/7 - as you say the new system means that you need to search for them all over again as all the links have changed. I can also do a search for applications in 2001/2 which seems to work fine - use the Advanced Search and put in a date range and then narrow it down. No idea about the comments though. -
I've not found anywhere round here that makes parkin the way I remember it growing up in N.Yorkshire. That said, there's some big regional variations - particularly whether you add flour or not (no or only a little in N.Yorkshre, yes - quite a lot in W.Yorkshire apparently) and if yes, how much. Betty's will deliver - https://www.bettys.co.uk/yorkshire-parkin Or PM me if you want my grandmother's recipe - the amounts vary according to taste but I had to write it all down for someone a couple of years ago so the instructions are pretty comprehensive and she was very happy with the results.

Agree that suit, shirt and tie is the safest interpretation of "business dress". That said, there are a few photos of more social events (one at the Swedish embassy on children's literature for example) which suggests an equal mix of tie/no tie (but all in suits/shirts).

Try the Simple Resize app for iPhone (free or at least it was when I downloaded it). It will resize the photo for you and then post as normal.

AJ_EDF Thanks for this - funnily enough I recently wrote to TW asking them to confirm that the ?30 would be automatically credited to my account and am waiting for their answer. Good to know what I've got to look forward to by way of response. On what basis did TW say they wouldn't be paying the required amount? It was absolutely over 12 hours interruption to service.

I got a free coffee recently because I mentioned I was buying lunch at 3:40pm. Delivered with a "you deserve this!". Made my day. I am neither young nor attractive.

Thanks - appreciate the clarification.

I didn't know MEATliquor was owned by Fulham Shore - when did that happen? I thought they had a small investment but didn't realise they'd taken over. Interesting.

Part of the issue (it seems to me) is the pavements on the forecourts of local shops which the shop is responsible for, not the bit along the road which the council is responsible for. Any wholesale upgrade of the pavement would/should involve both bits which would be complex to organise. I definitely agree it needs looking at, but I wonder if this is part of why it hasn't happened before now.

I am Melford/Underhill borders and also had to bleed radiators/top up pressure in tank after the recent water cut. It's been ok since then on all floors of the house. [glass half empty mode]Knowing our luck, there is another leak/crack somewhere else in the nearby system which will give way and flood at the most inconvenient time (2am Saturday) leading to another set of works over a weekend.[/glass half empty mode]
