Diverted 63 bus route - Marmora & Therapia Roads
Siduhe replied to OD's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think it's absolutely right for people to raise safety concerns and get TFL to rigidly enforce the (very sensible) 15mph speed limit by their drivers on the roads, which sounds like it would address a lot of the problems. However, saying that Marmora and Therapia roads aren't suitable for buses to go down at all (whether because of pedestrian safety concerns or otherwise) misses the point that double decker buses travel up and down roads just like those two in our part of Southwark every day. Same width, same corner problems. Residents on those streets manage to live and deal with it. Not referring to jonbateson here, as he made clear his concern is specifically about speed, but there have been residents posting on here who just blanket don't want buses on their roads even on a temporary basis. That doesn't seem especially fair, given the works which are causing this are to benefit residents in this area. If the Brockley Rise solution can be made to work by TFL, great (although query what impact it has on residents round there?), but if not I would say the focus needs to be on getting TFL to take responsibility for their drivers, not changing wholesale a heavily used local transport service. I posted a while back asking if there could be some police or council enforcement of the 15mph on a random basis - still seems like a good idea based on what residents are posting. -
Diverted 63 bus route - Marmora & Therapia Roads

Someone was at the 63 bus stop early this morning, making notes and talking to passengers and drivers. It looked to me more like they were a resident rather than anyone from TFL or the Council. They suggested that the solution under discussion is the one mentioned a while back of stopping the 63 in Peckham Rye and asking people to use the 363 to get up to the FHT instead. If this is part of the solution being discussed, Renata - can I ask if TFL are going to agree to let people affected use the 363 without having to pay another fare and how that's going to work in practice? I for one would be pretty hacked off at having to pay twice to get home on the basis this is a "better" solution than the buses turning down Marmora/Therapia. -
Consultation on banning cash payment on TfL buses

Except they are getting rid of the machines too. If TFL would make a clear commitment to give an extra "debit" transaction on an expired or out of money Oyster, that would be helpful and would definitely improve the arguments to go cash-free. At the moment all they will agree is to "investigate the possibility" of the idea. What is more worrying is if you don't have any cards at all - lost or stolen bag for example. The FAQ make clear in this situation you can't get on the bus unless you fall within a small category of a vulnerable person at risk of crime if the bus doesn't take you. -

Sounds a lot like what we experience on Underhill (which is wider, I agree) and Melford Road (which isn't, in places) with the 363 already. The sharp turns and the noise though definitely. If people are sensible, it works. If people are idiots (normally drivers coming the other way) it doesn't. But for three months, I would say it's liveable with. -

This would be a really sensible option, as the 363 already does this in part - however the turn into Wood Vale and particularly having to squeeze through the parked cars at the Horniman end by the traffic island on Wood Vale wouldn't work unless you restrict parking temporarily. There is barely enough room for a car to go past the island if there is a car parked (legally) close to it. Lorries get stuck there regularly, esp at the weekend, and have to reverse. -
Anyone know a 24 hr / Sunday vet pls?
Siduhe replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Andrew Kirby in SE1 is open Sunday mornings - normally fully booked but for something urgent they are normally very helpful. It's a great practice, I've used for years - even after moving out this way. -
It's been said before on the forum before that the lease has some odd provisions that it has to be used as an off-licence and the landlord won't change it.

To echo what others have said, if you're going to do it, go in with your eyes open and with a base assumption that you will need to pay ?10,000 at least for every set of major works. My first flat (years ago) was ex-LA, but my solicitor spent a long time badgering the council for information about planned works, cost of work done on similar sized estates in the area in the last five years etc, and so I wasn't surprised when the ?8,000 bill for just 2 new windows came in. Although my flat only needed 2 new windows, 10 other other (council owned) flats had needed all 8 replacing as well as other structural works. The terms of the lease meant I had to share equally in the cost, even though I got little of the benefit. I had set money aside to pay a chunk of it and they let me spread the rest of the cost over 3 years. Wasn't great but at least I was prepared for it.

Anyone else not had their rubbish collected today?

Our Green bin was emptied early today (pre-8am). Melford/Underhill borders. -
Here you go, think the link in my post is still live. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,851361,852013#msg-852013 I only found out about it from walking past the consultation posters, even though I live nearby. It looks like the whole thing is going ahead without any amendment, so guessing either not many other people responded or the vast majority were in favour of the whole program.

Thanks sheilarose - when I responded to the consultation, that's exactly the junction that I felt needed a really good look at. I find it terrifying the way some people pull out and the speeds they go and I'm a fairly confident driver. In contrast, the Wood Vale/Forest Hill road junction has lights and space for pedestrians to cross, so didn't see why it was planned to be redone at all. LwL, I might have posted a link at the time, will see if I can find it. Edited for spelling!

INTRODUCTION OF CENTRAL RES ... 01/07/2013 to 30/09/2013 The council consulted on these plans about six months ago. Mostly for safety reasons after a couple of high speed, late night crashes. Some of the planned changes seemed good to me but others pretty superfluous. Can't believe it's scheduled for 3 months though!

EAST DULWICH FORUM APP - how long can we wait?
Siduhe replied to hernehillisabel's topic in The Lounge
There have been a few threads on this - short point is the version/software the forum runs on doesn't easily support custom apps or preexisting apps like Tapatalk. So not likely unless the forum admins take the major decision to change the software, or someone with major coding skills steps up. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?12,1031270,1031751 -

Does anyone recognise 11 of 14 (the Marine who took Barry home) or his mate in the checked shirt?

Have a look at these threads and links. Can be difficult to get police interested though. Hope it helps. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1057095,1058183#msg-1058183 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,449655,449679#msg-449679

The white line is a courtesy marking only provided by some councils in some places. It's the drop kerb that is key. Blocking you from getting out is an offence. Blocking you from getting back in not. Will try and find refs for you.

edcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is this activity illegal? If not then what's the > problem? It's not illegal in and of itself. Like so many things, it depends how the person goes about it. If the cleaners were blocking the highway to traffic or creating a mess or a hazard on the surrounding roads, it would be an offence under the Highways' Act 1980. Similarly causing loud noise on a residential street could be an offence under the Environment Protection Act 1990 and other supporting acts. Repairing a vehicle on a residential street is a straight offence under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005. So get the neighbours onside and run the business in a reasonable, community minded way and no-one should have a problem.

I thought the most telling bit of the blog was this: I think it's tough for a business which has obviously tried to accommodate two different sets of patrons, with totally different needs, to then be told they need to be more family friendly. If I was one of rugby fans, I'd equally be frustrated at having the sound turned down to accommodate families in other parts of the establishment (appreciate that isn't what the OP wanted or has asked for). But I do think if there's a family friendly zone and you have to sit elsewhere, you don't necessarily expect the rest of the venue to be set up the same way.

We have BT, first normal broadband, now Infinity. Not the cheapest but totally reliable (one outage I can remember in 3 years, fixed in 8 hours) and customer service has been fine. Speeds are good and fairly consistent too. Edited to say we are at the Plough end of LL, close to the exchange, which does help!
