  1. Does anyone have an link to hand for the report that the residents of Chesterfield Grove put together for the first application by/on behalf of the owner/M&S? As someone who doesn't live immediately off Lordship Lane and initially thought "ooh, M&S" it was a real eye opener for me. It's not about what shop ends up there but whether the development being proposed is suitable for the site. There are some real issues with what is actually being proposed here (rights of way, access, damage to vehicles, delivery times) which the developer doesn't seem willing to address. Worth reading imo - will see if I can find it.
  2. Some discussion here with a bit more info. Apparently no Tesco! http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1257810,1258253#
  3. According to the guy who does my dry cleaning, who pointed out a pesky moth hole in a much loved dress recently, only if you wash them at 60 degrees or above. Dry cleaning does the job too as well as long as the cleaner isn't using eco friendly solutions.
  4. I'm still not clear what the OP was trying to say/achieve with his/her first post - was this some sort of political point? I ask because the helpful clarification of: doesn't seem to tie in with the content of the original post at all: Our house is currently under regular surveyors' monitoring for movement/subsidence, with the result we can't patch up the cracks or paint the front of our house for fear of messing up the process. I wonder if we're included in this category of people bringing down the area to slum-like levels? I am hoping our neighbours are sympathetic, but reading this, maybe not.
  5. There is a whole page on this topic on the Southwark website: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/412/noise_problems/378/car_alarms/1
  6. The Southwark collections planner part of the website seems to be back up and running - a bit slow but working for me right now.
  7. I always assumed the reason the parent/child spaces are close to the entrance is to minimise the amount of time that small children spend in the vicinity of the car park. Even supervised, they have to be more at risk than an adult in that environment, so it always made sense to me to make sure they spend as little time in it as possible. Isn't the problem with putting the parent/child spaces at the back that parents and children still need to navigate the bit at the front and all the bits in between in any event? Or am I missing something?
  8. I looked at the white line issue a while back - it has no legal significance and is a courtesy only - or at least that was the case back then. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1128919
  9. Yes, looks pretty occupied there now (I go past several times a week). My guess would be renters rather than owners but don't know for sure.
  10. You can edit the title and content of a post by looking at the options at the bottom underneat the words - the last option on the right should say "edit post" if you are logged in. You can't delete a post - only Admin can do that. The convention is to edit by deleting all the text (title and content) and replacing with a full stop, then saving, if you want to remove what you said from view. Hope this helps.
  11. I passed it with the covers off yesterday evening (someone was doing a bit of last minute tidying up) - looking really good.
  12. As ruffers said, we got our confirmation form back yesterday and suddenly were no longer opted-out. The half hearted explanation I got yesterday from the helpline was "oh, you need to pro-actively opt-out again". That seemed to be a decision designed to make it as hard as possible for people to opt out of having their details sold for commercial purposes (or that's how it seemed to me), so I sent a pretty narky email to the Electoral Services team saying so. What I've just been told by someone different from the Electoral Services team is that it's all a mistake and the confirmation letter is in error, and that we are all still opted out. I don't think I'll take the chance that the second explanation is the right one, so will be amending my confirmation form to opt out again and send back to them.
  13. There is some info available here - may help? In case the direct link doesn't work I just put in the postcode for Grove Vale. http://public.londonworks.gov.uk/roadworks/?x=g0SWi7xsSpFzczl-YdZ4xw
  14. Is it only me that finds this line of the covering letter quite telling/depressing? Which my cynical side translates as I'm normally someone who sticks up for Southwark because I think they generally do a pretty good job, but this doesn't come across well at all.
  15. There aren't any [edited to add, secret ways] - for those who live in that area, it's making life pretty awful too. TFL Bus Information has a date of 4 Feb for the bus diversions to finish but no idea how up to date that information is.
  16. Don't forget the Dultras. http://www.brixtonbuzz.com/2013/10/dulwich-hamlet-fc-songbook-the-great-chants-from-champion-hill/ I got a blue and pink club scarf for Christmas and just waiting for it to be cold enough to wear!
  17. Thanks - got that - but Mears have loads of clients including many councils - there's no suggestion in the article that Southwark one of those that paid bankhanders unless I'm missing something? To be clear, I'm not saying that they didn't but I just don't see how this article supports the statement that Southwark have been caught redhanded paying backhanders?
  18. Having read the article linked - I don't see any suggestion that Southwark Council paid any such payments. Only the allegation that Southwark Council was overcharged for work not carried out by the contractor. Where does the allegation of paying backhanders come up?
  19. I was told by a neighbour (who gets quite involved in planning stuff in our area, so is reasonably well informed) that both Tesco and McDonalds had expressed interest in the site for a Metro and a drive-through respectively, but that these were "unlikely to happen". I guess I'm not surprised by that if what Lousia says is right and the Dulwich Estate is the owner (which I hadn't heard before). Shame it can't go back to the Grove or a Harvester or similar as it is right on our doorstep.
  20. I'm still trying to work out what this says about the EDF - wouldn't have thought we had much in common with the student sites, maybe more so with the counter-culture types. Or is it just that we sound like a bunch who do a lot of towel and duvet buying? SteveSmith if you're reading, do fill us in on your spamming philosophy?
  21. *handclap* for ruffers (to whom I have some connection, but still deserves a handclap).
  22. If you are a light sleeper and get disturbed by the planes - wax earplugs may be the way to go. Easy to sleep in and really effective. The only problem is that they don't block out noise selectively (like some of the clever silicone sleeping earplugs do). So definite risk of sleeping through smoke alarm or morning alarm if you sleep alone.

  24. Does it need to be a Christmassy recipe? I've roasted turkey thighs before and they were lovely. Bit of butter on and under the skin and roast in a 180C degree oven. Otherwise this is a great and easy recipe I use a lot, which works well with chicken and turkey thighs - http://idinealone.blogspot.co.uk/2009/08/chicken-thighs-with-mushrooms-and-leeks.html
