I always understood that "contiguous US" refers to all the US states except Alaska, Hawaii and overseas territories. You see it in a lot of US legal docs.

I have tried loads of recipes with varying (not always good) results. Then I chucked a bunch of mixed asian ingredients (soy, mirin or a bit of brown sugar, fish sauce, chilli, garlic, star anise, sesame oil, spring onions) and it turned out amazingly well.

I've not stayed here personally but I grew up in York and my mum has recommended this to friends and family in the past - will see if anyone has stayed recently. It's just inside the city walls and within a 10 min walk of the centre. http://www.visityork.org/accommodation/self-catering/thedms.aspx?dms=2&pid=3610046

It wasn't working well late last night, with almost no traffic, either: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,336529,972779,page=90#msg-972779

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

I've not been told when they'd expect the > works to finish. I drove though Goose Green late last night when they were setting the roadworks up and there was one immediate problem. As the parking spaces on the left hand side of the road (by the EDT) remained in operation, it was stopping traffic coming from the other direction pulling out onto the wrong side of the road to get through the lights and onto the roundabout if there was any backlog of traffic waiting to turn right into East Dulwich Grove (am not describing this very well but hopefully you get the idea). It was instantly log-jammed - lots of horn honking and shouting (mostly by the Southern Gas guys). Not sure if this was a set-up problem which has now been sorted but has any consideration been given to suspending those spaces whilst the works continue? -

It's a Southwark project that has been running for a while. Details on the website here - http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/347/economic_development/2214/improving_local_retail_environments_ilre/1 and latest report that I've seen here - http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgConvert2PDF.aspx?ID=28128 There was a presentation for the plans on Underhill Road a while back where people could comment (which is how I know about it, and I did comment at the time). Personally, I think it's a good idea to try and promote smaller local shopping areas. [Edited for sense] -
Best route to faringdon/Clerkenwell area?

I also get the 63 most days from the Herne to Fleet Street. You need to allow an hour door to door, but it's pretty reliable (bus lanes most of the way, so moves even in bad traffic) and you get a seat. The main pinch point is Rye Lane - if lorries are delivering on both sides of the road, it can take a while for the bus to get through. I also find I can get loads done emails/planning the day which I can't on the train. It is much busier during school travel times (between 7:40 and 8:20 I would say) as lots of children use it to get to school near the Elephant. Train is quicker, definitely, but (IMO) a less pleasant and reliable experience. -
We dealt with something similar a while back - the top of our house has balconies at the front and back, the back one overlooks neighbours' gardens, and the front one overlooks the road. Southwark Planning originally took the view that neither balcony could be used at all other than for roof maintenance because of the same privacy concerns and issues. After a lot of discussions, it was agreed that the planning permission would note the back balcony couldn't be used other for maintenance (and if neighbours complained enforcement would follow). However there is no restriction on the front balcony, because we could show the areas overlooked could already be seen from other neighboring properties windows and partly from the road.

+1 Ted Max The great thing about Sydenham Woods is that they are equally "aimed" at adults, children, adults with children, dogs, meanderers, ramblers and cutting through to the pub'ers. It's nice to have just a little bit of wild, less managed space in ED. The current nature trail is also there for people who want to follow without creating something new that is only really aimed at one group of users.

Let The Bells Ring - which is his requiem for Johnny Cash. I'm not a mad Nick Cave fan, but it makes every hair on my arms stand up.

In other coffee related news, we have new snazzy coffee machines in the meeting rooms at work. During a 1 hour meeting today, 18 minutes was taken up with getting four cups of lukewarm frothy coffee.

I haven't rented for a couple of years, but it used to be a month's deposit and a month's rent in advance. The deposit should go into an approved tenant deposit protection scheme as well - ask for details.

KidKruger Wrote: > Anyone know if the DH -> St. Pancras service IS > being stopped ? > > Cheers, > KK As I understand it, the proposal is to cut the Wimbledon loop and terminate it at Blackfriars rather than continuing through to St. Pancras. See http://www.brixtonblog.com/commuters-protest-against-thameslink-cuts/6414 for example. Deadline for comments is today.

I posted recently that we tried Na Pura and really liked it. Didn't see anything like you experienced - all clean and tidy and we could easily see into the kitchen from the counter. I wonder if it depends who is on duty?

Based on this thread, we tried Na Pura last night - and really enjoyed it. Nothing fancy but good food, and thought the whole chicken meal was decent value. Nice, friendly people working there too. Will be trying some of the more traditional dishes next time.

It may be worth having a look at/quoting the terms which are implied into any consumer contract for services by the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 especially the section which says: s14 Implied term about time for performance. (1)Where, under a contract for the supply of a service by a supplier acting in the course of a business, the time for the service to be carried out is not fixed by the contract, left to be fixed in a manner agreed by the contract or determined by the course of dealing between the parties, there is an implied term that the supplier will carry out the service within a reasonable time. Also the Unfair Terms (in consumer contracts) Regulations which apply to any term in a contract between a seller or supplier and a consumer which has not been individually negotiated and provide that any such term which is unfair is not binding on the consumer. I can see a very reasonable argument that excluding a child from a class on the basis of a pre-disclosed condition and then refusing a refund is unfair, and/or a refusal to provide a service paid for within a reasonable time. HTH.

It's supposed to be at http://www.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/1506/draft_dulwich_supplementary_planning_document, but it also doesn't appear to come up on the search of the Southwark Council site). Any chance of an updated link?

kk, I've the same thing happen to me - outside small brown bin not emptied for a few weeks in a row. I reported each missed collection online and got a nice email back, explaining that ours had been missed by a new crew, because we are a house sandwiched between two small blocks of flats, who aren't part of the kitchen waste scheme - even though it was in full view. Been fine ever since. Worth reporting as they do add a note onto the weekly round schedules.

We did Forest Hill overground to Canada Water jubilee line to West Ham yesterday (around 9am) and then the same route back but starting from Stratford (around 5pm). Worked like a charm - busy in places but not rammed by any means.

I think part of the reason the tickets go so quickly, once released, is that you can also queue up at the Olympic site for returns and new releases. There was a one hour queue we saw this morning but it was moving occasionally. Faced with people who can take tickets in real time, not sure those on web have much of a chance.

Works on Nunhead Lane corner of Peckham Rye
Siduhe replied to Peckhamrye's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
PSV is normally Public Service Vehicle - bus, coach, minibus? Parking stand maybe (although that wouldn't make much sense given how busy that junction is)? -
Not so much catchy/clever but has personal resonance for me: "If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it."

2. A lot of the Orbit tickets are fully booked on most days. When I tried, about three weeks ago, I could only get tickets on the days I wanted either early am or late pm. On the official ticket site, go to Search Events, then select Venue = Orbit (and no other selections). This will show you what is left.
