New bins delivered whats the green bin exactly for
Siduhe replied to Google's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
According to the Southwark website, our first collection under the new system is scheduled for 4 October, but we've had no leaflet and no new bins anywhere on our street. Even assuming everything arrives this week, that's not much time to get used to everything. Fine for us I guess, as we've got all the info from here, but not everyone uses the EDF. -
When the Irish Festival was cancelled this year, it was reported that most of Thomas More Hall's funding comes from the profits - if that's true, I can see why they might have looked at alternative sources of income - shame it's to the exclusion of all the activities that currently take place there.

Ah, thanks. We are still leafletless. So streets are are mixed flats/houses are going to have a fun time. Although if I ever need my recycling emptied weekly, I guess I can just put it out next door (kidding...!)

Does anyone know how the scheme is going to work for blacks of flats? We are lucky to have just about enough space on our small front area to fit in three bins (brown, green, blue). However, both sides we have small blocks of flats (6-10 in each building) which at the moment already have one green bin per flat (and not enough room to put these on as it is). Are these bins also going to multiply by three so we will have between 18-30 bins on either site? I assume not, but what is the planned solution? On either property, there isn't enough room to put in big industrial type common bins, as they use all off street space for parking.

Was cancelled a while back due to funding cuts. There may be one in 2012: http://www.southwarkirish.com/ http://www.irishpost.co.uk/tabId/60/itemId/9385/Southwark-festival-axed.aspx

Have you seen Renata's latest update on July 20 - in one of the threads that penguin68 refers to? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,704268,708677#msg-708677 Edited to say, I guess you must have because you replied to the thread further on. As I understand it, no decision is being taken on the lights for the foreseeable future (i.e. they stay) until the Council decide what plans they have for Forest Hill Road and surrounding roads generally.

Apologies, I must be confused - I thought you were saying you had done a dissertation with a particular quote, whereas I think you were actually quoting the OP. Sorry for the confusion.

cuppatea and sfhyouthforum, I'm a bit confused - aren't you the same person? I understand that sfhyouthforum is The Sydenham and Forest Hill Youth Forum's - but the post is said to be the personal views of one employee - who looks to be the same person as cuppatea (unless there are two of you submitting a dissertation on the same issues - I looked it up online because I was interested). No issue at all, if you are, indeed can understand why you would prefer to post on a personal login, but the "Brilliant Post OP" (from cuppatea at 12:04) looks a bit odd.

We have a great hospital in Kings.....
Siduhe replied to DJKillaQueen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
jonr, it came out a while back: http://www.publictenders.net/tender/104984 It's not clear how much money Kings would actually be putting in, the structure is to set up a joint venture vehicle which would be responsible for designing, building, financing, operating and maintaining the new facilities. In return, the selected provider gets the right to generate income (from private patients and other users) from the new facilities. In other words, it looks as if it will be privately financed and all profits would be returned to the private sector. -

At the moment has mainly general stuff but was updated quite regularly with formal police advice yesterday: http://content.met.police.uk/News/Disorder-updates-and-advice/1260269372559/1257246741786 -

Did a bit of digging for you - looks as if the governing legislation is the The Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999. Section 4 is the bit you want - not the easiest para to follow but I read this as saying that if you take the highest point of the speedbump and measure an imaginary line directly down to the road surface, it must not be more than 10cm high. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1999/1025/contents/made

There's a world of difference between someone getting an unidentified chinese symbol stamped on their ankle "because Cheryl Cole has one" and someone who chooses tattoos as body art. I completely agree that the tattoo as fashion accessory is bonkers. However, I know several people with tattoos that are both meaningful/cathartic to them, thoughtful and quite beautiful. My brother's girlfriend spent several years in Japan during her thirties, and has the most amazing back piece that took about 2 years to finish. She very rarely shows it off, because it's highly personal to her, but can I see her wearing it in her sixties? - absolutely - it won't look the same for sure but it will still have the same artistic qualities.

RE:parking on Melbourne grove....is it free??
Siduhe replied to seleb2's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James can probably speak to this better than I can, but when we discussed this last time round and there was an informal survey of parking habits [by Councillors or the Council, not sure which], my understanding was yes, a small amount of commuter parking was identified. However, there was also a reasonable amount (more than the commuter parking) of "business" parking - i.e. people who work in the area or do business in the area. They also clear out at around 6pm. I'm not sure if the hour restriction over lunchtime is going to be the same significant deterrent to that group. Finally, I have to say my experience of the Melbourne Grove area in the evenings and weekends is that it's still difficult to find a space - there always seem to be more cars than spaces in that immediate area given the number I see cruising round quite late at night trying to park. So I question whether stopping commuter parking is really going to solve this issue in the way people think it will. -
It will be interesting to see if fixing the main does anything to improve the recent, early morning water pressure issues in ED. The guy I spoke to at Thames Water said it was likely there had been a small leak for some time, although the failure this am was apparently "a major failure".
-
If anyone else has woken up to find no water or very low water pressure - there is a major burst water main on Brixton Hill which is affecting water supplies (and traffic) across SE postcodes. They reckon at least 3-4 hours for a fix.
