  1. The SE1 forum is very active too. Or certainly was when we lived there 7 years ago.
  2. civilservant - here you go. Not sure how far back you can go online but there is also a right to inspect the register. http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgListGifts.aspx?UID=189

What you put above is what I understood the regs say, but my neighbour is putting a drop in and the Southwark road engineer who came to measure up last week was adamant that double yellows are mandatory for every drop kerb now in Southwark - which is the same as what others appear to be being told given the above.

Has anyone else > heard this and is there a way around it? Our neighbours are putting a drop in and I was told exactly the same by the Southwark engineer who came round to survey their drive. I made the point which has been discussed on here - that Southwark appear to be applying the standard for commercial drives to residential ones and he didn't have a clue what I was talking about. It's "Southwark Policy" and that was that. No matter that it will take out 3 other on street parking spaces in our street.
  6. Another option your vet can give you is a six monthly Program injection. Works really well and no need to reapply anything. Worth the additional cost if fleas are a real issue for you in my view.
  7. I can see why another crossing at that end would be useful - although it's a TFL route from memory so you might get objections from them which would be a real issue for the council in trying to do something about it. However, I think a pedestrian/pelican type crossing would be better than a zebra. The problem with zebra crossings (in my experience) is that drivers do get frustrated if lots of people are crossing at the same time, and can tend to try and run them. Pelican crossings not so much.

  10. Looks to be there to me - towards the bottom of the page.
  11. I like "Us Two" by A A Milne: ?Wherever I am, there?s always Pooh, There?s always Pooh and Me. Whatever I do, he wants to do, ?Where are you going today?? says Pooh: ?Well, that?s very odd ?cos I was too. Let?s go together,? says Pooh, says he. ?Let?s go together,? says Pooh? ?Let?s look for dragons,? I said to Pooh. ?Yes, let?s,? said Pooh to Me. We crossed the river and found a few- ?Yes, those are dragons all right,? said Pooh. ?As soon as I saw their beaks I knew. That?s what they are,? said Pooh, said he. ?That?s what they are,? said Pooh. ?Let?s frighten the dragons,? I said to Pooh. ?That?s right,? said Pooh to Me. ?I?m not afraid,? I said to Pooh, And I held his paw and I shouted ?Shoo! Silly old dragons!? - and off they flew. ?I wasn?t afraid,? said Pooh, said he, ?I?m never afraid with you.? So wherever I am, there?s always Pooh, There?s always Pooh and Me. ?What would I do?? I said to Pooh, ?If it wasn?t for you,? and Pooh said: ?True, It isn?t much fun for One, but Two, Can stick together,? says Pooh, says he. ?That?s how it is,? says Pooh.?
  12. Well, Logitech has certainly done its best. And yes, I wouldn't recommend it as a long term solution now, but you can pick up Classic/Radios pretty cheaply, a Vortexbox is a plug and play server solution, so it would be a fairly easy way to start with a more full featured digital system than just an NAS/streaming amp solution. There's still a fairly active long term developer [and beta test community, including me & ruffers] and Squeezeserver is open source, so it probably won't disappear completely - just get less accessible. Shame, as it was a great product line. [edited for sense/stray tag]
  13. This is a great diagram/image for that sort of thing - http://www.cgpgrey.com/blog/the-united-kingdom-venn-diagram.html It helps if you listen to the accompanying short video as some of the concepts are legal, some geographical etc. It also needs a bit of updating (Croatia is in the EU now for example) but still really useful.

  15. Sainsbury Dog Kennel Hill had a load with the fresh herbs today.
  16. According to this (which is the formal document containing the standard which LS1234 references) Vehicle Crossings are "features that allow vehicles access over footways so that they can reach driveways or other hard standing areas on private land" so sounds like a dropped kerb to me. This is a crazy standard, even if it's only applied going forward, which sounds like it will dramatically cut back on available nearby on-street parking wherever a neighbour puts a drop in. It would mean our neighbours couldn't park outside their own home for example. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/download/downloads/id/8393/ds_132_vehicle_crossings
  17. It's deliberate I think. A result of all the k1tchen related spam earlier this year.
  18. Agree with the above. Dark suit and tie - black, blue, grey all fine I personally think. One of those occasions where overly formal is better than underdressed. Unless the family have asked for something different.
  19. I've mentioned this before but Golden K1tchen (opp the old Grove Tavern) is our local and I'm a fan. Nothing fancy or unusual on the menu but good. They do a great salt and pepper fried aubergine and king prawn with broccoli. I pick up rather than wait for delivery though as it's a small family business and not sure how many drivers they have. If you go in early evening there is sometimes a family meal going on with what looks like really interesting stuff. I did once ask the lady who runs it if any of it was on the menu. She laughed. A lot. Not much call for chicken feet in SE22! Excuse spelling of k1tchen. Banned word I think.
  20. The pub was there first (although I don't know when the OP moved in and I'm guessing neither do you). But, as far as I recall, it didn't play loud music until 2am with windows open in any of its previous incarnations and based on what the Southwark website says, it shouldn't be doing it now. If what the OP has said is accurate, I don't think it's an unreasonable thing to raise. The licence conditions are there for a reason, to strike a balance between local businesses and local residents.
  21. According to the licence conditions on Southwark's website, the Patch has a licence to play music until 12:30am on a Friday and Saturday and there is a condition that all windows must be closed after 11pm. If the manager says different you might want to refer him to the licencing page I've hopefully linked to below. There's definitely a balance to be struck between letting local businesses make the most out of the weekend trade and the needs of local residents, but that's what the licencing system is supposed to do, and it seems Southwark did take a number of these issues into account already. If you get no joy with the manager, you could also take it up with Southwark as these are conditions which the Patch agreed to - although I'd definitely try and sort it out directly if you can. http://app.southwark.gov.uk/licensing/LicPremisesGrantedDetails.asp?systemkey=844773
  22. Tea smoked chicken is a thing of beauty. I don't know if this is what Yee Wah does, but this is the recipe I've used in the past. http://jeanetteshealthyliving.com/2013/10/tea-smoked-chicken-in-a-wok.html
  23. Singapore is a great place for a few days but I'm not sure I would spend a week or more there with young children - day trips would be a good way to go as said above. Depending on your budget the Shangri-La has a great pool and gardens for the kids and is a 10 minute walk from Orchard Road with loads of different cheaper eating options. Gardens by the Bay and the Singapore Zoo are pretty amazing (but a way away from the Shangri-La!)
  24. See here re the Grove. Am hoping it will reopen as a restaurant/pub too but it depends on the Dulwich Estate. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1308904

I saw an incident last month between a very upset elderly gentleman visiting a grave and a boy who was being taught to ride a skateboard by his dad. Agree that most people are very respectful, but even respectful scooter practice doesn't work (in my view) when you are interrupting someone else's remembrance by using the cemetery instead of a park.
