  1. The Gallery have a section on the Jobs part of their website making clear that they don't advertise jobs other than on their offical site, and referring to fake postings like this. So I guess they are well aware and this isn't the only one.
  2. I think what PR is referring to is the recent story in one of the local newspapers that Southwark were considering closing a number of libraries in the borough. However, Southwark has since said there are no such plans: http://www.southwarknews.co.uk/00,news,13574,440,00.htm

The relevant coroner's office which covers Stockwell is Inner South London. In the ordinary course of things, Southwark, Lewisham, Lambeth and Greenwich share the costs of all coroner's inquests for the Inner South London office. It's possible for the Coroner to make a special order about who should pay the costs of the inquest (the MPA for example), but otherwise the normal rule will apply, unless some kind of special deal can be reached with the Home Office.
  4. I was just going to the post the same as sazzle. A London strip or Birmingham Bar (depending if you are oop'north or dawn saaf) is a good (and fairly economical investment) especially for an internal front door to a communal landing. Was a while back, but my door and lock held. My door frame (without a London/Birmingham/strip/bar) didn't.

Worth noting that beatnic also sought to harness the power of Twitter for the good of the EDF recently: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=se22
  7. Jah, Melford/Underhill Borders? Us too. We can quite often see him playing his trombone as well as hear it...
  8. I think I posted this before somewhere, but when I lived in SE1, the sorting office there confirmed that packages are not initially sent out for delivery at all, but the "you were out" cards are filled out in advance and posted through regardless of whether you are in or not. It's to save time and failed attempted deliveries as well as limit the amounts that postmen/women have to carry. I guess this may be a London or country wide thing.
  9. You may notice a bit of a theme with these photos - Phoenix is a 9/10 year old Burmilla. I'm sure she has a much more active life when we aren't around...
  10. I noticed this in the summer and again recently. I believe it is due to cholorine being added at the treatment plant. They do this several times a year. See the first FAQ on this page: http://www.thameswater.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/SID-3FEDB15E-D59595F8/corp/hs.xsl/900.htm
  11. vickster, I believe "harbingers of doom" is the preferred term... ;-)

If you mean there's an restructuring going on, then there's no requirement to notify anyone unless and until a consensual reorganisation is achieved.
  13. If you've attached a tag to Levi's collar and it's being ignored, then whoever is feeding her doesn't appear to understand the problem or respect your concerns. Agree with others that keeping her in for a month or so would be a good plan, though appreciate that she may not like that very much! The other thing that helped our kitty (who is an indoor cat) when she needed to shift a bit of poundage, was setting aside 30 mins a day for some really active play - laser pointer tag in our case.
  14. It's possible that a judge could have made an out of hours administration order or that the directors went down the out of court admin route over the weekend, but I am fairly clear that Foxtons wasn't in administration as of Friday. As soon as an admin order is made, there are various notification requirements to the Court, creditors and interested parties - without going into details, I and my colleagues would have been made aware of it. Oh, and once in admin, the company doesn't have a say about what steps it may or may not take in respect of the business like closing down branches - those decisions are taken by the adminstrators, who wouldn't have made any decisions at this early stage before taking an audit of the business - the initial audit would normally take about 5-10 days depending on the size of the job and how good the records are. Great first post though... Edited to say, it's entirely possible that the company may have called in restructuring advisors to consider options internally - perhaps to come up with a plan to restructure the business without going into an insolvency process like administration. That would be very normal, but not quite the same things as an administrator being appointed.
  15. A gentleman with the same first name and surname appears to run and/or be a director of the company that runs/ran the Scene Bar on the OKR. Edited: to say that it looks like Scene may have shut down now and have been replaced by the fantastically named Xeus nightclub?
  16. Gen17, To answer your second question - the separation in the registered title means that the Council would only be granted a CPO over the original concrete house, not the newer building behind it. I suspect the reason for the separation in title is a bit more prosaic - it would have been almost impossible for the residents of the new building to get a mortage if there were oustanding breaches of covenant in the freehold in respect of the old house (for example to keep it in good repair etc). Splitting the title would have given the owner an opportunity to free the new title from any covenants which only relate to the old house (save where these are for the benefit of the old house, like right of access to do emergency works etc).
  17. I saw something similar (without the attitude) on Thursday on the 63 bus (about 8:50). Two ladies tried to get on, the Oyster pad did the "bad beep" and they asked the driver if they could get on anyway as it was so close to 9am. He said no (politely) and that "they're really cracking down at the moment". Not excusing the attitude of the driver on the 185 in any way, but sounds like the drivers may be under strict instructions. Both ladies paid to get on btw, (and a young guy even stood up to give them a seat, so there are some decent people out there!)
  18. I'm no fan of cycling on pavements and I don't do it myself - however, what gets people upset is an ignorant minority of cyclists who behave with little or no consderation for other road and pavement users (i.e. the people who knock down pedestrians (regardless of how little injury they cause!), run red lights when the little green man is showing, or the charming individual I saw a couple of years ago who unclipped himself from his racing bike and kicked a dog out of the way on the pavement as he went past). However, you can just as easily substitute "car drivers", "dog owners", "pedestrians", "neighbours" or pretty much anything you like in that context. I've seen car drivers come very close to killing cyclists just to gain a few metres on them, which is just as idiotic and potentially a lot more serious. I support a crackdown on the ignorant minority in whatever form, but I'd much rather that we (as a society) made that kind of behaviour instantly unacceptable and that everyone took responsibility for showing a bit of consideration to others, not leaving it to a bunch of PCSOs.
  19. lucyjessica, I don't know if the policy is the same in SE22, but in SE1 the sorting office confirmed a while back that packages are not initialy sent out for delivery, but the "you were out" cards are filled in advance and posted through regardless. It's to save time and failed attempted deliveries as well as limit the amounts that postmen/women have to carry.
  20. Take it back - I have a room open and zephyr has made it in.
  21. Indeed, and just when I was winning...;-)
  22. I was on and racing with Ant, but just got disconnected. Looks like Nintendo is a bit flaky today...
  23. We've added you, but not been online since - so I don't think it will show up yet.

The British Legion is still very active in supporting all those who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants, not just those of WWI and WWII. That includes people who fought in the Falklands, the First Gulf War and a whole group of people who have been injured on active peacekeeping duties in places like Kosovo. A big part of their current work is offering psychological support and care, because these services are often overlooked by the Armed Forces and social services don't necessarily understand the particular issues of ex-servicemen or have the resources to meet their particular need. The Legion also fights a large number War Disablement Pension cases for serving and ex-servicemen who would not otherwise have the funds to bring a claim (which is how I know all of this - I have worked with them pro-bono in the past).
  25. I'll try and join if only for the comedy value, though may not be home by 8pm on the dot.
