  1. Wetherspoons have been trying to sell this pub since 2015. All potential sales fell through as it is a listed building making it impossible to make any significant changes to the structure. Back in 2016 staff were told it had been sold to a cinema chain but sale fell through because of this. I believe lease expires in 2025 so wetherspoons are stuck with the capitol until then.
  2. Two Brothers.... quite good fish and chips, they also deliver. Plus kebabs and burgers.
  3. Live in Dawson Heights, Overhill Road......great news, will pop in later today, and don't forget P13 bus also stops outside
  4. Well said Foxy, the grass lawn outside my girlfriend's flat on Dawson heights can have several foxes running around. They cause no problems and are a joy to watch. Great to see the cubs, still waiting this year!
  5. Thanks for the update ...glad to see I'm not the only nightbird...
  6. Can anybody join in at Christ Church? Is it every Thursday?
  7. For any table tennis players, I have just discovered a new venue in Peckham - All Saints Church Community Hall, Blenheim Grove, 9 SE15 4QS - behind All Saints Church. They actually conduct training sessions for all levels from beginner to advanced - ?10 for a 2-hour session, first session free. Normally Saturday 1100-1500 and Monday 1800-2200 except Easter Monday. Had my first session yesterday, very impressed! See www.pingpongtribe.com for more details.
  8. The dog seems to be in Overhill Road, north side, just down the road from Dawsons Heights as we can clearly it from the west side of Bredinghurst ...
  9. Found it on BBC Iplayer - From our Home Correspondent, Radio 4 1330 - 1400, Dawson heights starts about 17 minutes in - features Kate Macintosh, the original architect.
  10. If you do a search on the forum you will find interesting posts like this :- http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,147239,1896969#msg-1896969 Living on Dawson Heights is great, fantastic views and a very nice estate. Excellent children facilities. Worst problem is occasional loud music but you get this everywhere. Police Helicopter and road block experience on Friday night is very rare.
  11. Has anyone seen any mention of this in the media? If not, that makes TWO incidents of armed police and gun crime within a 100 yards of each other with minimal media attention in the last two months. See www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1885451
  12. Ludoscotts...must be very scary for you. Where do you live? I assume not Dawson's heights?
  13. Very surprised about lack of news reports. this is what I know happened. I travelled by bus to Overhill Road going south on Lordship Lane about 6pm. Heard lots of sirens and saw several police cars travelling at speed which overtook bus. Disembarked at Overhill Road bus stop and saw several police cars and an ambulance outside Bodi Salon. There was police blue tape cordoning off a rectangle outside the salon with several police talking to people inside the rectangle. An armed police officer was standing by his car on the road. There was just enough room to walk between the road and the police tape which I did and I visited Food and Wine (between Two Brothers and Bodi Salon). Made a purchase and the shopkeeper told me there had been a shooting at the Salon. On leaving the shop I spoke to another shopkeeper who I know personally and he told me somebody had been shot 3 times and the he had seen the perpetrator running away. All of the above is what I know happened. I did not "actually" see the shooting.
  14. The Capitalfm report says their shooting was Forest Hill Road, if so separate (but possibly connected) incident to Lordship Lane.
  15. Apparently either in or just outside Bodi Salon, 489 Lordship Lane SE22, somebody was shot 3 times tonight between 1730 and 1800. Armed police and ambulance in attendance but as the road has not been closed I don't think there are any fatalities. A local shopkeeper saw the perpetrator running away ................ Horrible, horrible times but these incidents are becoming more and more frequent in every part of London, even East Dulwich.
  16. No water in Bredinghurst, Dawsons Heights on Overhill Road from about 4:30pm. Thames Water website reports :- SE22: Lordship Lane We are aware of a leak on Lordship Lane and one of our technicians will investigate as soon as possible. We will then prioritise the repair depending on the severity of the leak. Sometimes repairs take longer than we'd like, as we need to complete numerous checks and tests, and work with the relevant local authority to minimise disruption to our customers and local traffic. Thanks for checking if we're aware of the leak.
  17. Thames Water update :- SE22 - Lordship Lane No water & low pressure Message last updated: Monday 27 June 2016 - 15.21PM. We apologise to customers in the SE22 postal code area who may be experiencing no water or low pressure. This is due to a burst water main on Lordship Lane. Our technicians are onsite working hard to restore supplies as quickly as possible. Road traffic managment is in place and some delays are expected. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused. This message will be updated once more information becaomes available.
  18. Cherry Tree (opposite east Dulwich Station), Castle on Crystal Palace Road.....
  19. As previously mentioned The Fox on the Hill has an excellent play area. Yes, I know it is a Wetherspoons but that does mean very good prices for reasonable quality food and drink. They also have a conservatory area which can be booked for private parties which have I used before and it is an excellent venue.
  20. A few months ago, a friend of mine living in Dawsons Heights requested the following work :- "I wonder if any of the councillors for College Ward can help regarding Melford Passage (a footpath connecting the top of Belvoir Road with Melford Road). This footpath was paved over a few years ago which was a great improvement. There are steep steps at the Belvoir Road end and, in wet or icy conditions, these steps can be dangerous and there really should be a handrail on these steps to make them more manageable. I doubt that this would cost much money and it would greatly improve Melford Passage." I am pleased to report that this work is now complete with handrails on both sides of the steps. Many thanks to Andy Simmons and his councillor colleagues in College Ward for pushing this work through and making the steps much safer.
  21. Two Brothers (opposite the closed Grove Tavern) deliver. They do Fish and Chips - also kebabs, burgers and chicken. Very nice fish ....... twobrothersfishbarandkebab.co.uk Two Brothers Fish Bar and Kebab in Dulwich 495 Lordship Lane, London SE22 8JY Phone: 02082995863
  22. I don't understand. Dawsons heights is a fantastic place to live .....
  23. Wetherspoons were quite interested - Tim Martin, founder of Wetherspoons, even visited The Cherry Tree. However Wetherspoons decided the cost of conversion was too much and withdrew their offer. Great shame!
  24. It seems that bicycles will now be allowed to go down Overhill Road. See website below..... They already do it anyway so it might make sense for it to be allowed as long as it does not interfere with parking or upward flow of traffic. www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200431/street_improvements/3657/overhill_road-_proposed_contra_flow_and_highway_improvements
