  1. Kings of Leon. Yeah Capt B, a fool twiddling on guitar all day is a little tedious, but in all of the cases I mentioned it was guitarist coming up with the killer tunes/riff and the singer boring us all with his tone deaf poo-etry. Paul Weller. The Jam. Joe strummer was the biz, as in Foxtons is a biz. Mick Jones was the heart, soul and passion.
  2. Fleet Foxes, Bon Ivor, Seasick Steve, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, any and all of that emo nonsense, uh, run out of modern overrated t#ss from the top of my head. The Verve, Smiths, Clash and Blur, four of the most hideous nauseating migraine inducing frontmen in the history of forever, held aloft by the genius of their respective guitarists (McCabe, Marr, Jones and Coxon). And Hendrix, overrated and Dull? WFPAYO? Rob Wyatt commented that he saw 'em play every day for a year and was blown away every single day. Rather defer to his opinion over, well, anyone else. Even you.
  3. Flaming carrot. http://www.flamingcarrot.com/FlamingCarrotPage/ "He is the comic book superhero of not only the blue-collar man, but the darling of the avant-garde. He is a one-man tour de force of Dali-esque surrealism, strange stunts, and totally outrageous behavior. A whimsical, picaresque and puckish character, his life itself is his art form and Hell follows with it." When's the movie out? edited to add quote
  4. Along with stopping pedestrians crossing the road when the green is flashing, may we have a similar strong deterrent against the motorist accelerating through a flashing amber and a full on red? I suggest a fully armed PCSO at every corner.>:D
  5. Do those cameras actually work Sean? Are people employed to watch them all day? I think they may just be an unheeded visual deterrent. Of the three vehicles that jumped the lights, the last was a bus which proceeded to park in the box junction. The psco's were back there this afternoon, doing sod all, while I was nearly murdered by a FC in a DHL van speeding, and I do mean speeding, through the red. It had to break violently at the other end of the junction due to the cue of traffic. What did the pcso's do? You guessed it. Nothing. A couple of weeks ago they stopped and fined a bloke for cycling on the north side of the common where the footpath is a round four meters wide, the five of us (yes it took three pcso's to do the job) being the only people there. I feel they may be creating easy work for the pco's to justify their existence. DaveR, you're quite right and I applaud you for your good sense.
  6. This morning I noticed (while the pco's were hidden behind a large van fining those terribly naughty cyclists) three, count em, three vehicles jump the reds! I don't mind the cyclists jumping red so much, a quick kick to the leg or a gentle shoulder barge will deal with them, the real menace is the motorized vehicle driver! Why aren't they being dealt with? Is it to difficult a problem? Why does every driver consider amber to mean accelerate accelerate accelerate? And another thing, whats the point of a cycle lane when all the traffic is bl##dy parked in it? (6)
  7. My money is on Guy Flanaghan as the doc with Russel Tovey as the assistant. You may remember them from Being human earlier in the year, which will now return for a six part series in 2009 along with Phoo Action!
  8. Hi Jah ,have you listened to Lee 'scratch' Perry's new pair with andy WK and Mr Sherwood? Are they any good? Umming and Ahhing due to small budget after ebay splurge
  9. YEAH! built in graffiti space, what a terrific idea! Why don't we also include an old lady they can mug and a young teenager to stab! Since the wall has been vandalised by the council it has remained blemish free. Could this be because 'taggers' only want to irritate and annoy with anonymity rather than actually provide an artistic response to society's ills? Can't seem to find the 'hang em by the neck till dead' emoticon on this toolbar.....
  10. Crossing the crossroads at Kings on the rye this morning, there were three uniformed police just milling around. The difference was astounding! All the bikes stopped at the red and waited for the green, cars pulled up on amber, no one tried to take an illegaL right, crossing was, for once, a safe and pleasant experience. So the answer must be police on every street corner and every road, preferably armed police to deal with any dangerous miscreant drivers.
  11. If you get chance to see the new recruitment leaflet AFN, it seems the new academy is set in a large rolling field!
  12. I'm still very suspicious of the circumstances surrounding the building being condemned, when a group of 'travelers' moved in, then torched the place, and voila!, it has to be torn down and a new building erected rather than the beautiful old building restored. And to say nothing of the monstrosity now residing in Rye Oak school. Anyhow, there is no way on earth a child of mine would have been sent to a school with no outside space. So what if they get to use the Rye as a sports field? What about the other four days of the week, lunchtime etc? All that unused testosterone flooding out the gates at 3.30..... I would be happy to have this school but the lack of an outside area is a big concern, very big, and I feel they are just creating a negative and possibly uncontrollable problem before they have even begun.

Supposedly Eric Idle is doing a Rutles stage show a la Spamalot, I would know more but I haven't read the whole article yet. And yes Jah, it is a ween song!:))
  14. Michel Houellebecq is a fantastic read. Start with either Platform or Atomised and move on to the possibility of an island, soon to be a film.

    my brain

Sorry to be pedantic here Jah, but its 'phwooahhhhr'. http://neilinnes.org/chords/phwoahr.htm. Still one of my favourites to bash out at 7 in the morning.... I guess it's something in my brain, I need whiskey to ease the pain, But it's early in the morning, And I'm feeling bad again. But if you ever loved me, You'd go easy on me now, Fix me up a cup of coffee And in a while I'll come around. I think I'll spend the dog food money, But he'll love me just the same. But if you really love me baby, Help me scrape the mucus off my brain. It's a shame when morning hurts, I've seen bad and I've seen worse, It's the nature of my being I took some money from your purse. Now a frenchman loves to party, But I know he's not to blame, But the way you're looking at me baby I can't help but feel the shame. I think I'll spend the dog food money, But he'll love me just the same But If you really love me baby Help me scrape the mucus off my brain.

    Energy Bills

The media have been warning us for a while now that bills will not rise, they will rocket like the proverbial taikonaut! And they have. I'm keeping the heating off, putting on an extra jumper and wishing for a warm winter. When your bills do drop through the letterbox, check your meter and phone in with the correct reading, those estimated bills can screw you over, especially at these prices. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/natural_resources/article4434019.ece
  17. Bimal Kotecha suggested in his letter to Sue; 4) Alternative suggestion from local members is to utilise the space as a "graffiti wall" as this was suggested to be a better option that having a work of art disgrased by constant environmental abuse and anti-social behaviour related to "tagging" Can I nominate the frontage of the Town Hall as an appropriate location for this graffiti wall?
  18. Macca used to be my fifth favourite Beatle after Billy Preston, but after reading this months mojo interview he's risen to 4th and a half! Still the worst songwriter though........
  19. Oh come on people, obviously some very pleasant teenagers have been to the european court of human rights to complain about the council destroying their artwork, and so the council have kindly obliged and given them a blank canvas on which to express their inner teenage torment in the form of 'tagging'.;-) Seriously though, I think we would have preferred a little cleaning and restoration and the mural protected with a perspex guard a la Banksy as the picture is an important part of our community and very much loved by all. Painting over it was an act of vandalism worse than the graffiti it replaced, and done so without prior consultation!
  20. As a pedestrian I have noticed that bikes are stopping at the red lights far more often than they used to, a couple of years ago it was almost a daily grapple with the lycra loonies who feared a loss of momentum more than they feared colliding with me crossing at a green man. I am quite happy for cyclists to jump when we've finished crossing so they can get a head start, as I feel most pedestrians are. The motorist on the other hand, the times they've accelerated through a red at one end of a junction only to be speeding across the pedestrian crossing when it is green at the other end, or another particular bugbear, parking on the crossing when it's on green (what are we to do, climb over you?). I could go on, .... http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/8722.aspx and http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/cycling/9063.aspx#things
  21. The best vegan marge for cakes is Tomor, comes in a block like butter, so is great for pastry making too. Available from DKH Sainsburys (occasionally) and Waitrose Online.
  22. I was much better off, then the gas bill dropped thru the door.
  23. I was there and the only incident that springs to mind was a young lady in a wheelchair who parked herself in front of a bus and refused to move! At first we all thought someone had been run over, what with all the police and ambulance activity. They moved her on, but as I was leaving some time after five she had done the same thing again at the stop opposite WHSmiths. Don't know about the helicopter, didn't hear one myself. As an extra, what did anyone think of the festival? Or were you all at the country fair in Herne Hill (where I heard things really did kick off big time on Saturday)?
