Hello east dulwichers! I was just wondering if anyone knew 'the rules' for the blue bin collections? Mine didn't get emptied this week but I heard them moving the bins around on Tuesday morning. So I'm guessing they looked in mine and refused it! All I have in there is newspapers and empty wine bottles. Not in clear bags, but they had emptied it when stuff isn't bagged before. Any ideas??

Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible
MissKing replied to Grotty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree - 'cheaper' prices are what attracted me to the area in the first place, and then I fell for east dulwich anyway! The prices have shot up crazily in the last year, but the area has come up and the prices are now falling into line with the claphams/balhams. I think the increases will slow down over the next couple of years. -

Here's the press release for anyone who is not familiar with what's going on with the Thameslink Programme at London Bridge: http://networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/News-Releases/First-new-platforms-to-open-at-London-Bridge-as-Thameslink-programme-gathers-pace-2033.aspx -
The planes are like tinnitus - they more you focus on them and feel annoyed about the noise, the more aware of the noise you will be. Also, like tinnitus, I doubt they will be going away any time soon either! I don't really give the planes a second thought and don't ever feel disturbed by them. They are there though - they keep my mum awake when she visits!

House prices go up, the neighbourhood goes down

Smart houses certainly make a road feel nice - I love the houses with the nice white shutters and pretty doors. But it's expensive to do and for the people in rented flats or the elderly it's probs not their first priority with money. -

There's two options to consider and vote for - its not just an empty exercise. -
Rye lane used to be a decent shopping place... My dad used to work in the coop selling shoes as a teenager! I hope it gets cleaned up a bit and some decent shops open... Brixton has kept hold of its culture but has good shops to boot now too! Hopefully Peckham rye lane can go the same way :)

Why so many great hardware shops in ED?

Hi, I recently moved and wanted to get my boiler serviced and the gas in the house checked for safety etc. I also found reconsiderations for John Powers on this forum, and was really happy with the service and advice given, and the guys were really polite and nice. Their quote was also really reasonable. I would highly recommend John Powers - his number is 07977909339.

Hi all, I've just bought a house in ED and wanted to get the electrics checked over when I moved in. All my sockets looked very old and I wanted to make sure my whole system was safe. I looked on this forum for recommendations and liked the sound of Clive and Grant from C G Electrical. The came round at short notice and did me a very thorough safety check that was not rushed and no corners were cut. They are also on the Trust Mark list of trusted traders: http://www.trustmark.org.uk/ The report provided was very comprehensive and as a new home owner, they gave me a lot of useful advice. I felt like the service they provided was very good value for money - my Dad was with me on the day and he agreed. They were also two really pleasant guys, a father and son team, who I would not hesitate to use again. I would highly recommend E G Electrics. You can contact them on: Clive: 07831 349 332 // Grant: 07706 755 155

ludlow thompson rip off?? advice please!

AVOID them like the plague! Ridiculous fees - ?300 to add a name to a contract?! Seriously? Oh and when it came to the end of our 12 month contract they whacked the rent up and evicted us. We wanted to negotiate with the landlady on the proposed rise but they served us notice - and the notice was not even correct!!! Supposed to give 2 months notice to terminate the contract and they posted us a backdated notice letter (after i phoned them up to find out the progress of rent negotitations) that gave us just over 4 weeks. Luckily I know how to read a contract and fought with them. I now look forward to the pleasure of paying them ?80 to end the contract? Even though I didn't want to move out. And the cleaning fees they quote at ?300 for a two bed place. Delightful. I can't beleive there is no regulation on letting agents and their cowboy fees. An entire generation can no longer afford to buy their own homes, and we are just at the mercy of stuff like this.
