  1. Hi yes the paint work is good and I don't think the water is getting in at the base of the verticals that seems to be rot free. Interesting about the wind pushing the water up and under the sill it could be but are there some tests or something I can try to work it out!?
  2. It's a single glazed wooden sash window south facing top floor. The underside of the sill is rotten on the inside of the building and all the plasterwork underneath is blown/bubbly/ruined but I can't tell where the water is getting in? I can get the bottom half of the frame replaced I guess but don't know if it will just rot again if water is getting in higher up? Any advice? Ta
  3. I went to a toddler group at Goose Green centre this morning - cost ?1.50. I was the last person they admitted though and that was 10.15 so getting there early is a must. It runs from 10-11.30.
  4. I've been looking for the contact details for St. Marys over in Nunhead but to no avail - does anyone have a number/email? Cheers
  5. Thanks for all the info. My son was at Amott Road but it has recently closed which is a great shame, hence why looking for another pre-school.
  6. Great thank you, will investigate!
  7. I am looking for a morning nursery for my little boy who is 2 and a half, preferably 2-3 mornings a week. Anyone got any recommendations/ideas? Don't want super expensive as I am on Mat leave. Cheers
  8. Ive over 500 albums and I can't bear to just chuck them out (haven't played them in years and never will again I guess). What do people do? Charity or bin or sell or keep?
  9. My childminder offered term time only childcare for me - I think that is the best option as nurseries generally don't. But do think about it carefully. I did start to regret NEVER having anytime away from children - I was either with teenagers or toddlers and would often start the new school term more knackered than the end of term (whilst all other teachers were bright eyes and ready to go). Even just one day a week would have been valuable.....
  10. Great plan - I will PM my email address. I am part time so can do Tuesday and Friday but with toddler in tow, I should be able to come alone at the weekends - a rare treat!
  11. Agreed Louise. Always good to know others in the same boat.
  12. Hi. So great to see so many 2nd time mums on here who will also have toddlers running around while nursing a very young baby. I am due on the 12th October and my son will be nearly 2 and a half x
  13. I had my baby at Kings and all was good. Friends have been happy at St. Thomas's too. I think we are lucky that we have the choice between a good hospital and a good hospital. Not a lot of choice in other parts of the country. My sister lives in Kent and went she had twins a few years ago she had to travel to Kings because the facilities weren't at her local hospital. I would go with the closest and congestion charge less option.
  14. Sophiesofa is right. Teachers are given a deadline from senior management to respond to whether they intend to strike or not and then they will tell the parents from there.
  15. It is not down to the teachers themselves to tell you but the senior management of the school. Depends how quickly they get it sorted. It is only the NUT so shouldn't affect schools in the same way as the strikes in the Autumn. I am sure it is frustrating to organise last minute childcare, my son is still a toddler so am not there yet, however it is just as frustrating to work for a man like Michael Gove!
  16. Yes there are a couple of obvious places where the water has gotten in like where a boiler flu used to protrude but I'm wondering if the damp patches that are appearing up to 2 meters below are from this? And a foot above? Capillary action?
  17. We've got south facing non cavity walls in our old victorian terrace that have sprouted damp patches since these spate of storms over Winter. We did have someone come over and quote us but they disappeared. Can anyone recommend someone who's any good at this? Ta
  18. I just went onto the Ivydale Children's Centre website and used the general info email address FAO Miles Smith. Not sure if that is the direct route or not. Not sure whether someone has a direct email????
  19. Yes I understand that other people don't work on Mondays but it was really busy this morning (as it always is) suggesting that there are a lot off on a Friday too and as I said for many of a certain age toddlers are asleep in the afternoon - precious nap time. Anyway - maybe they should accommodate with both times.
  20. Anyone else disappointed with this? It is moving to Monday afternoons instead after next Fri 17th Jan. This is a really bad move for 2 reasons - afternoons is nap time and the main reason is that I imagine like me a lot of you are part time with Fridays being your day off. I work on a Monday so no longer can go and my son loves it. Perhaps if enough people expresses their disappointment with this change they may move it back to a Friday morning?? Worth a try....
  21. I didn't want to put this in the trades section as I would have been bombarded by tradesmen.. We are looking for someone who has experience of digging out some rotten wood/filling/sealing and painting over a couple of leaking sash windows. Thanks!
  22. No guttering for this wall it's the rear wall of the tail bit that sticks out from these vicky terraces, so the roof pitches sideways above. I'm wondering if because the rain has been blown horizontally for a while in these damn storms, the water spots are appearing all over the wall rather than coming down from the top as it's just hitting small cracks?? Or it's seeping in from the top and finding a network of cracks inside the brick then emerging inside sometimes.. Can't see an end to the weather ! I think I'll get someone in before the plaster starts to suffer too. Thanks for the advice!
  23. Our south facing Sashes have been leaking away this past month and also some penetration damp spots on the upstairs south facing wall. I don't know whether to put it down to this freaky mad storm period and leave it all and re paint interior when dry, or get it all fixed ???... Anyone else's house getting a kicking and wondering the same??
