In the states there is no such stigma attached to a national flag. A lot of this stuff harks back to the British class system, connotations with extremism and just general British cynicism at pretty much anything. It seems a shame, and that's why so many people feel the way they do. However, this does not justify a politician sneering at the very people who elect them and pay their salary. Louisa.

Burro e Salvia is coming to East Dulwich
Louisa replied to burroesalvalnd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
LM I priase a lot of local businesses too in fact I even recall having to promote local indepedents on here some had not visited before in the area such as Ayres and Sopers. I am a regular at the Kebab and Wine and Iceland too. I'm all about retail diversity, what angers me is pretentious shops aimed at pretentious people who float into ED wanting the Chelsea lifestyle on a south of the river budget. How many estate agents/pizza/indian/Italian/gift shops does one area need? Louisa. -
PT in defence of quids I think anyone who is a paid up member of parliament who posts public messages like those, particularly at a time when the working class vote is feeling alienated from its traditional party of choice, is deeply misguided. She didn't need to say anything, the picture said it all. It represents the urban champagne socialist view of the working classes to a tee. Milliband is trying to woo his core vote back and someone in his shadow cabinet does this? This is exactly why after 5 nearly five years of an unpopular Conservative lead coalition Labour are nowhere in the national polls and in Scotland face being almost wiped out. The guardian reading middle class urban socialist is as far removed from traditional Labour voters as the toff Tories. Louisa.

Just what we need. Another place to get hold of Italian food, such a shortage in the area. Louisa. -
PT all my family and a large number of my friends were traditional Labour voters who became disenfranchised post 1997. At least under Blair, we knew where we stood. Under Milliband, who knows what he represents or his party. The sneering from the top of the Labour Party on the 'dead cert' white working class vote is shocking and its forced some very traditional hardcore socialists into the long grass not knowing which way to turn. Labours elite shun the working classes at that peril. Louisa.

I have a soft spot for the Odeon. Don't sit me next to someone munching food though, big mistake. Louisa. -
Finding out my favourite clothes no longer fit because I've put on half a stone in 3 months :( Louisa.

Go on... sell me 2 bed+ flat in East Dulwich for dirt cheap???
Louisa replied to MattOliver's topic in The Lounge
I would love to but unfortunately it's paying for my retirement bungalow and Spanish holiday home. Sorry. Louisa. -
I agree Sue. It's becoming very confusing, Admin can you close this thread and everyone can maybe then go onto the thread which refers to this business by its name rather than the previous occupant. Cheers. Louisa.

Otta I'm not referring to you here. And yes, when it comes to class I am one of the "usual suspects". But on this one, I'm just saying the "usual suspects" (when it comes to looking for something offensive or picking holes in an off-topic aspect of a post) should give the OP a break and put just as much effort into helping/comforting the individual rather than questioning every word in the post which they find offensive and looking for an excuse to accuse the poor person of bigotry. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Yes, the characters described by your judgemental > stereotype are so judgemental :-) Talking of jumping to the use of stereotypes, isn't it a shame that the usual suspects on here resort to questioning someone about one aspect or turn of phrase from a post rather talking about the loss of the phone, which immediately stereotypes that poster as being x y or z. Forget the fact the poor person potentially had their phone half inched, the guardianista seems more concerned about the alleged perpetrator being referred to in a negative and more than likely accidental turn of phrase. As I said, priorities :) Louisa. -

Louisa replied to meg_meg's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Indeed Foxy. If would be guilty until proven innocent. Kept in a small cell on goose green. Forced to read the Guardian and eat organic sourdough pizza. Sneered at by women sporting cath kidston bags and men wearing barber jackets. Hideous. Louisa. -

Way too many sanctimonious people on this forum. Give the kid a break for having the guts to come on here and try to resolve the matter themselves firstly, and secondly the parent for coming out and explaining the situation to us all after. EDF guardianista getting on their high horse with confused priorities, yet again. Louisa. -
A fiver for a lobster is definitely a bargain. I've already got three prawn rings in the freezer. Louisa.

For me a thick sliced bloomer or twist loaf, toasted under a grill on one side. A strong grated Cheddar or Red Leicester grated onto the untoasted side (a spread of english mustard or Worcester Sauce first is optional). Toast until slightly brown and bubbling, and brown sauce or ketchup for dipping on the side. Louisa.

Ed Warehouse (what's happening?)
Louisa replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ayres has been in Nunhead since I don't know when. A great example. They sell lots of products all baked on site to a high standard. Unlike some of the newer bakeries which have setup locally and closed within a year or two they have been a huge success for decades. A good track record for service value and quality. -
Ah well, better to have a business open than no business at all. Or even worse an estate agent/indian/pizza restaurant. Louisa.

Hear hear Foxy. Everything is relative. However, it appears that East Dulwich has been affected by hyper snobbery to the extent that people refer to 'bargain for around here' without actually knowing what it means. Does this phrase also include the Dulwich Cafe or Kebab and Wine when these people make these judgements? I'd be interested to know. Louisa.

Ed Warehouse (what's happening?)
Louisa replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Lots of bakers around here produce good quality bread and they've been serving the surrounding community for a generation or more. My alligiences lay firmly with them because as pointed out earlier, a bakery produces more than just 'artisan breads' for 4 quid a loaf. I'm not referring to cheap boiled and sliced supermarket crap here either. Of course, if you believe the health and taste benefits of this overhyped 'bread' and more importantly you can afford to waste your money on the stuff then that's entirely upto you. Not everyone can afford to spend the best part of a fiver on a loaf though and I'm not gonna look down on anyone who wants to waste their money how they see fit, equally though it might be worth some of the usual suspects on here not using food snobbery to put down those of us who still support local indepedents who do produce cheaper bread, including those who choose to buy a boiled loaf from any number of local supermarkets. Louisa. -
If it's a bargain you want then wait 'Orange Wednesday' it used to be called, bogof on pizzas at pizza express and various chain cinemas. Now that is definitely a bargain night out including meal and entertainment. But I agree with Otta, paying over a score for two pizzas and a few glasses of wine cannot be described as a bargain. Louisa.

FUN? Seabag, there is nothing fun about people queuing up and blocking the pavements making a racket well on into the twilight hours all for a bit of bread with toppings. I'm all for having fun, this most certainly was not fun for anyone. Louisa.

Louisa replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The gentrification acceleration button appears to have been pressed after a few quiet years. Hate places like this that sell overpriced fashion trend breads. Louisa. -
The number of people queuing up last night was borderline hysteria. I'm with those who equally cannot understand the fascination with this food type. It was loud, late on into the evening and I feel for anyone who lives in a flat above the shops on that stretch of the lane. Ridiculous. Louisa.

FYI a large lamb doner kebab from kebab and wine is ?5 KK, I had one earlier this week. The salad is healthy and fresh, granted doner meat isn't, unless you have chicken shish which is grilled, and the carbs come from a grilled pitta bread. It's a pretty well rounded meal IMHO. Titch I don't hate processed meat, I just think pizza is a carb overload with cheese and processed meat, whereas a kebab can be a healthier and cheaper alternative if you choose the right meat cooked a certain way. Louisa.

Iceland aren't going anywhere until well into the new year according to their customer services team. After that, who knows, M&S are not even owning up to wanting to open here. Maybe they were gazumped by Waitrose? Or perhaps they stay tight lipped until everything is finalised with freeholder.either way we get one last Christmas with an Iceland Prawn ring and 100 piece part platter. I'm happy. Louisa.
