  1. Just to remind you James Iceland were in no way involved in the recent horse meat scandal and were given a clean bill of health. They not only keep prices low on their own brand products but also on the branded goods too, of which they sell many. They also sell GM free products and a wide choice of free range foods. As Nigello rightly points out, pensioners use the store for convenience alongside good value, they've also come to trust the store because of the friendly staff who almost become friends to them. Using the iPhone example to illustrate a point about prioritising a shopping budget for a 'typical Iceland shopper' is snobbery, it's a mass generalisation once again stereotyping working class people as being ignorant w@nkers who do not understand food. Why should anyone on a budget be branded stupid because they choose to spend less on food and look for bargains? Louisa.
  2. Another seemingly innocent open-post to a local business turns into a classic virtual slagging match between forumites. Does everything on the EDF always come back to this? Can't we talk about class? ;-) Louisa.
  3. As does 'LMFAO' or 'FML'. Pass me the puke bucket. Louisa.
  4. Putting the M&S/Iceland development debacle aside for a moment, my memories of Iceland/Bejam and knowing all the friendly staff past and present going back for many years, it's very sad we will lose this local institution. Yes we can get deliveries and the Peckham store is nearby (not that anyone would want to visit it), but it's about more than that. As a local you get to know people in these places if you're a regular. I'm hopeful the future development will take on some of the staff from Iceland, would be sad if they didn't. Louisa.
  5. When will Iceland be closing? Louisa.
  6. I wonder what "c***" means? Louisa.
  7. KirstyH who knows if it will backfire. I think you'll find the "No" campaign is overwhelmingly endorsed and run by big beast Labour politicians now, so it's not just about posh tories from south of the border, it's more about complacency and being caught off guard. They're now working their t/@s off praying for some last minute surge towards "No". It might happen but seems unlikely. Louisa.
  8. Otta but Labour are their own worst enemies. They should have been more than on their guard about the SNP threat as soon as Salmond formed a majority government in the Scottish parliament. The man is more than capable of overcoming obstacles to get what he wants, and he seems to have an endless number of rabbits in his hat. Labour took for granted their natural vote and assumed a healthy 15/20% lead would never be overcome. They are the natural party of Scotland, they were caught napping and now Salmond has successfully eaten away at a seemingly insurmountable "No" camp lead. Labour and the Tories need to hope for their own survival that they can somehow win this with a healthy majority. I personally think it's too late now, and any victory with under a 5% lead will allow the nationalists a foot in the door further down the line. It will be a hollow unionist victory, with a buoyed nationalist movement surging forward with even more support. Well done Westminster. Louisa.
  9. Salmond will lose this referendum by probably a slim 2-4% margin, but that's too close to call to silence the nationalist sentiment for another referendum in a decade or less even. Westminster, particularly the Labour Party, should have done a lot more for the "No" campaign than they did from the start. It's all a little but too little too late. Louisa.
  10. spark67 I feel your agony. Underhill is one of the worst roads in the area for this kind of ignorant pavement hogging, and I don't think all the cars help matters as it's becomes pedestrian warfare ducking and diving in and out of parked car gaps letting people pass. I wish community support officers would encourage people to be more pavement aware, maybe setup a system of fines for people who walk side by side, pram owners are the worst for this offence. Louisa.
  11. Manchester Louisa.
  12. If I lived anywhere else in the UK I'd be having a referendum about whether to keep London within the union. I'm pretty sure the rest of the island would prosper far better out of London's shadow, and London as a city state would be more than capable of taking care of itself. If London is expelled by the rest of the country, which other British city would best be placed as the new capital of the remainder of the union (let's suppose Scotland votes 'No' in two weeks time. Louisa.
  13. maxxi that all sounds great, but if you speak to a resident of the Shetland Islands who geographically and culturally speaking has more in common with Oslo than it does Edinburgh then this argument starts to fall apart. Louisa.
  14. I think they should bring in someone like Taco Bell with a small outlet. Ideal for a cinema. Louisa.
  15. I'd quite like to pour a bucket of ice cold water over quite of few people I dislike. If I donate to charity and don't film it, does that make it ok? Louisa.
  16. I feel Martian most of the time on this forum. Louisa.

I clearly stated if you donate whilst doing this challenge then fair play, if you read my earlier posts properly you'll realise I am aiming this entirely at the nut jobs who get a kick out of doing something because all their friends and family are doing it, and then go on to not donate a penny towards a worthy cause. You haven't seen a single video where ALS wasn't prominently mentioned, I guess you've seen every single video on social media then? An awful lot of people are doing it just for fun and no other reason, hence my anger. What's all this 0/10 ball crap anyway? I'm entitled to an opinion, and I personally can think of better ways to raise funds for charitable purposes without potentially encouraging a frenzied bunch of hysteric sheep who do stuff cos everyone else does it and not have ANY understanding of charity or what the disease is about. I suggest, anyone who has the balls to do this "just for fun" WITHOUT making a donation, runs a mini marathon "just for fun" too. But that's probably asking too much isn't it? Wouldn't expect lazy social media junkies to wanna put themselves out too much, especially if it means actually donating at the end of it. Louisa.
  18. The rubble challenge is in fact sand. Well in this video anyway. Louisa.
  19. They're mostly attention seeking f*%#$ who want to be on social media showing off. It's easy to donate to charity if you really cared, but you don't do you? You people just want to get as many "likes" and "comments" because you're insecure and lack personality. How about saving some water and running a marathon for charity. Now that does take blood sweat and tears and doesn't mean thousands of gallons of water are being wasted when people are dying in drought ridden parts of our planet. Louisa.
  20. Is this a wind up? Can't tell on here anymore. Louisa.
  21. The root cause of the charity is of course sad, but if you're taking part not knowing or even referencing the root cause that's equally as sad because it means you're not donating or understanding the reasons behind the 'challenge'. Louisa.
  22. Miga I personally find that so very sad, that we need to appeal to a persons vanity to raise awareness and funds for charity. Louisa.
  23. Otta yes it will have done, and any way to make money for charity is a good thing, but it will also have led to a large number of people doing the challenge and not donating at all. I'd love to see a donation screen capture of every person who's done it after they've completed the challenge. Many people aren't even making reference to the charity in their videos. These are the people I'm talking about. Louisa.
  24. I agree miga, but why in today's society do we need self indulgence band wagon jumping before we care to donate? Can't people donate anyway because they care? Louisa.
  25. Absolutely Jeremy. It's a purely self indulgent thing with charity and donations apparently an after thought. If you really cared, you'd donate without doing the challenge, and post the screen shot of your donation onto social media to shame the vain attention seekers. Louisa.
