  1. Well use your vote tomorrow. Labour in London make posh streets posher & dump congestion and pollution on the poorer streets. I?m done with them. sally buying Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > To enforce you statement try traveling from > streets behind East Dulwich. 2. Ok, can we send all the cars to sit outside your house then? Sounds like you?d be ok with it RahRahRah
  3. This all day long. I?ve never owned a car and I have queuing traffic outside my door for much of the day. It?s driven my wife round the bend & caused a lot of anxiety and unhappiness. It puts me off voting Labour. I don?t even know where to put my cross this Thursday but if my vote can help us go back to having less of the traffic from the posh roads outside our door then I?ll do it. It?s made lockdown even more miserable. ? Let me take your smoking analogy - what the council is doing is saying don't smoke outside your house, go down the road and smoke outside someone else's instead......winking smiley And the areas within the LTN are some of the biggest smokers in the area!? 4. No, the pipe is part of the private property, not the Thames Water system. It?s a matter for the landlord and the council.
  5. Please be careful when walking down Oxonian Street and ideally avoid the road. There?s an open sewer spewing human poo & everything else across the pavement and road. I reported it to Southwark Council yesterday morning and was assured it would be dealt with quickly but there?s been no clean up, no signs or barriers put up & people are walking through it, tramping it around East Dulwich. This is coming from a private tenanted property on East Dulwich Grove and, despite being warned yesterday, it looks like the residents are continuing to use the toilet facilities so it is an ongoing and frankly revolting incident. Please avoid this street and add your voice to the complaints to Southwark Council to sort this quickly.
  6. A few comments: 1. Foxes are very nimble - they can hop onto fences and walk along them with ease - I don?t know about cubs, but trying to stop them getting under fences is a bit pointless because they can get over fences & walls easily 2. We have had a ?nuisance? fox over the years who?d visit our garden to eat takeaways it had found, dig holes in the lawn, dig up plants, poo & generally prance about. It?s annoying but no big deal. We videoed its antics (it usually only visited for 5-10 mins at a time around 2am-4am) to figure out what was doing it. 3. The local foxes raid our bins out the front of the house & poo while they do that - I hate this & plan to get some extra bins once things are back to normal so they can?t get into them! It seems to be much worse recently which is probably down to there being less food about from takeaways, cafes and restaurants. 4. The worst bit was the pooing in the back garden as we have young kids & the garden is so small you can?t miss the poo, so we bought a motion-active water spray (basically an add on for your garden hose) that we put out every once in a while in the garden. The fox never set it off - too clever! It would spot it, often taking a look into the garden from the top of the fence & deciding to head off elsewhere. 5. Before we had kids, we lived in a block of flats with large shared gardens & there were loads of foxes in them. We didn?t really use the garden & never had any issues - they were brazen and would sunbathe in the garden during the day. I didn?t mind that at all and got a few nice photos of them. 6. I don?t support people feeding the foxes, just like I don?t support people feeding the pigeons. That may seem like a kind thing to do but it will just attract them and, despite what many have said on here, they are wild (possibly flea & disease carrying) animals & shouldn?t be treated like substitute pets in my view. 7. Don?t poison or kill the poor things. That?s just rotten behaviour & it?ll come back to bite you (unlike the foxes!!)
  7. I hear there?s a drive for another 8pm clap to show our appreciation for essential workers and the NHS tonight. We?ll be at our door making a racket and hope to see and hear lots of you (from a safe distance!) too! P.s. a big shoutout to the kids of East Dulwich and Peckham Rye for the awesome window rainbow pictures - it?s brightening the place up!
  8. Mrs TP Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Southwark Council should deal with this - check > out their website. Agreed. We had one on our street and the Council were extremely efficient and removed it within hours is reporting.
  9. So sad about this. After my daughter was born earlier this year I popped past the Brick House to buy my wife and the midwives some breakfast and the team gave me 2 fully stamped cards for free coffees, one saying ?For Mum? and the other ?For Dad?. It?s easy to be a naysayer and complain about this and that but the staff were always brilliant with my family (the dog too) and the coffee and cakes (and oh those mince pies!) were out of this world. I also enjoyed Shazaming tunes while I waited for my coffee. Best of luck to the staff and owners for their next adventures. Guess I?d better dust off the old Nespresso machine...
  10. I totally agree with Bic Basher. Lack of Lib Dems is a real problem for me. Do you choose the Nasty Tory Party or the Nasty Labour Party? The fact that Helen Hayes isn?t in that nasty Momentum faction is helpful but it?s still ultimately a vote for a party led by it. Hardly worth a hustings if it?s between those 2 parties. With 69% for Hayes at the last election it?s clear what the result will be anyway but it?s depressing. Might have to stand myself as the Spoil Your Vote candidate :-)
  11. There?s nothing wrong with the promotion. It?s fun. My little boy really enjoys collecting them. We shop at M&S a lot and it?s a nice wee promotion (even if it attracts criticism from killjoys!)
  12. Delighted to hear about this! Can?t wait for the season to kick off!
  13. Funnily enough someone did one on the back doorstep of my office in Victoria and she was caught on camera. A runner it seems who just had to go and, well, did. Utterly gross!
  14. In any event, I can?t wait for Saucy to open! Lordship Lane could use a snazzy new restaurant and I like the look of the place. Good luck Jules and Nick!
  15. Whippersnappers are excellent and have space in Dulwich Park and Brockwell Lido. My 3 year old had a party at Brockwell Lido last year and loved it.
  16. Lorenzo is excellent! We?ve used him twice for a suite of family portraits. Nice chap too!
  17. Hilarious thread! I once spotted someone putting loads of M&S meals into a rucksack at the big Victoria Station M&S. It looked a bit furtive, so I told a security guard and left it to them to do whatever they wanted. They watched the person and, as far as I?m aware (I didn?t see any kerfufel but didn?t hang around to watch), the person just went and paid. You see, the thing is, while it may be a bit weird to use a bag instead of a shop basket or trolley, if you don?t leave the shop without paying then *whispers* you haven?t committed a crime. Well done to the OP for making me chuckle though! Batman would be proud of you!
  18. I live very close to the site of this horrible crime. Firstly, I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Dennis Anderson. I didn?t know him or any of his family or friends but, from what I?ve read in the press and on the cards and messages left for him, it sounds like he was a good family guy who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I really feel for him and his family. You wouldn?t choose to go that way. He was clearly very dearly loved given all of the flowers, candles and messages that have been left for him. Secondly, if you do have any information that could help to catch the murderer then please do contact the police. There is a dangerous man on the loose and, judging from the newspaper reports, he seems very troubled. Finally, I have lived all over London and moved to East Dulwich 7 years ago. I feel lucky to live here with my young family. It?s a safe place with lots of good, happy people living good, happy lives in this leafy, vibrant little town in South London. London is a patchy, sprawling metropolis however and you do see troubled people all across the city. When I first moved to London I lived in Islington on a fancy street. I was a young lad and got the chance to live in an old judge?s townhouse with some friends while the owner sought planning permission to go wild doing the place up. The house was a bit ramshackle but the area was stunning. Crime still happened there. A short walk in the wrong direction and things could feel a bit edgy. There were stabbings and assaults. A friend of mine lived in Brixton in 2005 and there were shootings while he lived there. When I lived near London Bridge it seemed very safe but there were lots of troubled people who loitered in and around the station and Borough Market - the same goes for both Liverpool Street and Victoria stations (and I?ve worked near both for long periods). London is the Big Smoke and it tends to attract (or maybe even create) troubled people. We don?t look after vulnerable people in London as well as we could. Anyway, the point I?m labouring to make is that a horrible crime like this is, thankfully, an exceptional and awful occurrence and it could happen anywhere (sadly increasingly so across the capital). Poor Dennis wasn?t taking a terrible risk by going to the cornershop in the wee hours of the morning. He was just unlucky that someone unhinged walked in after him. The good people who knew Dennis have been writing messages about how much they loved him. It seems to me that they won?t let the manner of his tragic death define him. Quite right. Similarly the good people of East Dulwich won?t let this tragedy define our community. I?ll be taking my little boy out on his scooter, walking the dog in the nearby parks, visiting Champion Hill to cheer on the Hamlet and dining and shopping along Lordship Lane. So I?ll be out and about with my family this weekend and I reckon the overwhelming majority of you will be out and about too.
  19. I?m looking to have a loft ladder supplied and fitted. Can anyone recommend a reputable company that can supply and fit? Any suggestions and feedback on suppliers would be much appreciated! Thank you!
  20. I?d like to recommend Jason Corner, who is a painter, decorator & handyman. He did an excellent job on my house with his carpenter colleague Ernie and his bricklayer too. Nicely done and quick too! They filled cracks / fixed plastering, painted the outside of my house, painted the bathroom ceiling, built some tidy boxes to cover exposed pipes, painted our railings and fixed some external brickwork, all in just a few days. You can find Jason via his Facebook page - search for Jason Decorator and Handyman. Great work gents, thank you!

  22. Has anyone got foxes living in their garden? I see them a lot on the streets off Lordship Lane in the evening and I always wonder where they live! And yes, I have unfortunately heard the noise - there?s a biological reason for it I understand, but I don?t think it?s very proper to go into that on the EDF... 🤭
  23. I couldn?t disagree more with the OP. The bike traffic is a nightmare on a sunny day when you have a little kid and little dog as I do. Most families are fine but some treat it like a race track and it can be pretty intimidating walking there on a busy day with a toddler and a dog - if you don?t want to traipse through mud or break the ?dogs on leads? rule that applies in many parts of the park then the road is often the only alternative in the park. Perhaps bikes should be banned (i?m not serious)! Or perhaps everyone should just be a bit more reasonable and tolerant of others. I?m sorry the OP had a bad experience but banning other people or limiting reasonable use of the park because of that experience is intolerant and unjustified. Having spent the cold wet winter walking my dog there every week when nobody else is out, it seems completely unfair that the sun comes out and so do intolerant people who want to change the rules to suit themselves during summer. The park is for everyone, come rain or shine.
  24. It was great to see Rye Books open on Northcross Road at the weekend. It?s a great wee shop and the move closer to Lordship Lane will hopefully do it good. Hopefully there?s enough space for it and Chener Books in the local market. I?m delighted to see a local book shop thriving! We just need to fill some of those empty shops on Lordship Lane and East Dulwich Road now...
  25. mimifantasia87 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > the guy said the dog jumped into his way and his > daughters!!! His point is... if you want to have a > dog, then control them!!!!!!!!!!! No, the point made was ?If you care about your dog and don?t want it to get injured or killed, either take it off the path or put it on a leash?. That has nothing to do with controlling a dog that?s gone wild, it?s an edict to all dog walkers by an angry unreasonable person. If the point was your one then I wouldn?t have had any issue with the OP?s post.
