  1. It's particularly grim when it's wet out. Dogowners, just take a plastic bag with you, please!
  2. We used Nicola Hall a few years ago. Found her easy to deal with, organised and reasonable. http://www.hall-law.co.uk/
  3. Dave Dixon has just tiled our hallway and kitchen and has done a fantastic job. He's a multi-skilled builder who has also carried out plastering work, damp-proofing, external repointing and various carpentry bits and pieces for me over the past couple of years. He does get busy, but it's certainly worth giving him a call: 07790836501
  4. Depends what sort of stuff you enjoy. For what it's worth though, I found all of these particularly enjoyable: The Corrections - Jonathan Franzen English Passengers - Matthew Kneale Star of the Sea - Joseph O'Connor Canada - Richard Ford The Secret History - Donna Tartt
  5. I can spare you one if you'd like to send me a PM.
  6. Great atmosphere today and a really exciting game, especially the second half. Could have sneaked it at the death if Xavier had shown a tad more composure, but no matter: a fair result I think. Congrats to all involved in advertising the match too.
  7. Both Bells on Lordship Lane and Bromley & Ellis in Brixton were very helpful when we redid our bathroom. You'll also find discontinued ranges of taps etc on Ebay, which might help free up cash for other parts of the project.
  8. Oztumer's gone upmarket... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27763323
  9. Weather permitting, I walk to Brixton tube most days. Takes me 40-45 mins from the top of Pellatt Rd, down Townley Rd and then following the route of the 37. Not the most scenic of routes, but hey-ho...
  10. Think you're referring to Artemidorus, Sue. I walk past it every day, it's some sort of gallery/craft shop. And yes, it's thin!
  11. As far as I'm aware, their restaurant is closed on Sunday evenings and all day Monday.
  12. I find them mildy diverting when flicked through over breakfast. I guess some may find the small ads for local tradespeople quite useful, too.
  13. We used a combination of Bells, Bromley & Ellis in Brixton and Ebay, where you can pick up a lot of last season's taps etc for a fracton of the RRP. By way of recommendation, we employed Iliana's company (she of the post above) to carry out the work and are very pleased with the end result.
  14. We had something similar done last year and found a couple of recommendations on here for Big Small Building Solutions. They did an excellent job at a great price. We supplied the bath, shower, taps etc and they invoiced for labour and materials, giving us all receipts etc at the end of the job. Atanas, the owner, is an unflappable, friendly and very professional guy who gave us some sound advice and worked in a couple of changes we wanted as the job progressed without any fuss. We're very happy we chose to use them. PM me if you want to see a couple of pics... You can reach Atanas on 07809 776638 http://www.kitchenandbathroombuilderslondon.co.uk/contact.html
  15. Hi James Talking of potholes, is there any news as to when the proposed resurfacing on Pellatt Road will take place? Thanks.
  16. Our bedroom used to be very cold until we changed our knackered old radiator for a new, bigger one that emits around double the number of BTUs. We used Big Small Building Solutions who did an efficient, tidy job for a very reasonable sum.
  17. Had an excellent meal in there on Saturday night. Good feel to the place. Great service + top-notch tucker = two very happy punters. Great to see so many wines available by the glass, too.
  18. Yes, I think they're excellent, too. As davidh points out there are a few omissions - Captured On The Rye isn't on the map either - but congrats to all involved, nonetheless. They look fantastic.
  19. Thanks everyone - some good suggestions here
  20. Hello all Any tips for draught-proofing an old Victorian front door? I've tried the self-adhesive foam stuff which has made things slightly better and am considering getting a length of copper strip. Has anyone used this? Any other advice gratefully received! Am not in a financial position to replace the door itself...

  22. Atanas Deshev and his team at Big Small Building Solutions have just completed a fantastic bathroom refit for us which included tearing out an old bathroom and replacing with new bath, loo, shower, sink, taps, towel rail, shower screen, wall and floor tiles and spotlights. Very pleased with all aspects of the company's service from the initial quote, through to recommendations of where to source tiles and bath appliances etc (including the use of the company's discount card), discussion of ideas and, most importantly, the work itself. This was completed with the minimum of fuss and disruption to an outstanding standard. Well worth looking at the company website where you can also get an idea of cost etc: http://kitchenandbathroombuilderdslondon.co.uk/contact.html
  23. I've just had my bathroom completely redone by Big Small Building Solutions. PM me if you want more info, or to see photos etc. They've done a fantastic job at a very fair price.
  24. I've bought gents stuff in there on a few occasions, both for myself and as presents. My wife also uses them and had an extraction facial there a couple of months ago which she said was excellent. The staff are great, by the way.
