  1. It's great news - well deserved. Quite a few children we know near us behind Goose Green go.
  2. Did you find someone for this? We also need someone for this type of job and also to change bedding in a house. Anyone interested to pm.
  3. Now found! He was doing a spot of golf on the course. Phew! Thanks to everyone who looked.
  4. My friend's dog ran off today in Nunhead Cemetery. He's a brown dachshund called Barnaby. I've tried attaching a photo but to no avail but he has lighter brown patches on his face and tummy. There's a photo of him on the @MeetHouseLane twitter feed.
  5. Yes, we went to Sainsbury's to use the clothing bins. Non outside the Mind shop anymore either. Where would be the nearest ones?
  6. Prendergast asks you to do a musical aptitude test for the first round and then if called back to play two pieces for your second round. I think they took about 12 children this year on this basis and few of them seem to be from ED/Peckham Rye/Nunhead.
  7. Oh yes - Small White Elephant is fab too. They serve coffee from Alchemy I think who are excellent. They are my go to if Cafe Viva is shut. Ah yes, All Press at Toasted! And Corals (was Lerryn's) is great too (serve Climpson's). I'll use Anderson's if any of the others are shut, but General Store have just extended their hours - hurrah! Really revealing way too much here about my coffee nerdiness. In terms of type, I prefer a Long Black (shorter than an Americano), followed up by a Flat White (later!) if I'm really tired. No I'm not addicted at all ;- )
  8. I like this thread. Coffee snobbery is a good thing! My order of preference in SE22/SE15 is - 1) General Store (they serve Workshop) 2) Old Spike Roastery 3) Cafe Viva (they serve Volcano) 4) Toasted (I think it is Square Mile) 5) Brickhouse Bakery/Peckham Refreshment Rooms
  9. Gut instinct is vital in early detection - good to go with it and nor dismiss. Well posted and hope mother gets to see this - I'd want to.
  10. We had a terrible experience with the one on Lordship Lane nr the Post Office. Long story but my daughter had to have her two front teeth removed (recommended course of action for overcrowding) and they were pulled out without painkillers. They were not even wobbly. Lots of blood and he laughed at her screaming. After lots of orthodontic treatment at Kings (who said they should not have removed both teeth the way they did) we are now very happily with Dr Sharma at Smiles in Herne Hill. He is amazing with children and the whole practice seems very professionally run.
  11. Could not recommend Steve enough. He is better than calling any appliance helpline and is totally trustworthy. Quick response and extremely quick turnaround in fitting a new part to the dishwasher (all same day!).
  12. We've just been to the quiz at The White Horse and it was the old quizmaster (Alfie) from The Great Exhibition who is great. Apparently he's there to stay now which must be a loss for the exhibition.
  13. Yep, nearly knocked us off the pavement nr The Gowlett last night around 11. They showed no signs of stopping and don't think there were any police after them at that point.
  14. Does anyone have an opinion/experience of Prendergast? Would be really interested if so.
  15. We have one too who arrived this weekend - from Paris, she would love to meet some other local au pairs. I'll pm you.
  16. I'm clicking 'like' on bawdy-nan's post.
  17. ...for calling ambulance (despite it being too busy for them to send one!) and for those who stayed with me when my child had a head injury and serious bleeding ensued. And for getting me a chair and to both ladies who ran and got a wet towels/cloths and took in our scooter - thank you! And to the men who helped my husband back his van down the one way road to eventually pick us up... The kindness of strangers took my breath away. Kings were brilliant btw - saw us immediately and stitched her up and she is now sleeping peacefully - thankfully.
  18. You can buy anything with a badge on from the school office, but you can just buy any grey trousers and white polo shirts. Blue or black shoes. Track suit bottoms are allowed in Reception as well. Yes, Miss Harwood is the lady who would send out the info and as JDR says, she is very good but probably on holiday now until first week back, so someone in the office may help.
  19. I would contact the school. We have received a pack with dates and attended an information evening as well as a playdate set up by the school.
  20. We have logged in and it says our application was cancelled, although it wasn't!
  21. Ministry of letters singing alphabet is wonderful. Love the Nosy Crow versions of Cinderella and The Three Little Pigs as well.
  22. Look at Morley college and see what they are offering nowadays. A few years ago an au pair of ours went to Bromley college, which wasn't too far to get to as they were during the day.
