  1. Unfortunately the wholefood shop you mention has closed, as has the coffee shop on the corner, Lucius and Richards. However, the Review bookshop is the best bookshop in the area and Petitou on Choumert is easily the friendliest cafe. I could also go as far as to say Ganapati up the road is the best Indian. The drycleaners is also brilliantly friendly. ED it aint, but there are some treasures there, though I would agree there has been some interesting choices of businesses there in the past, Fish shop? Carpet shop and now woodcarving shop?!
  2. The guys in Moxons are brilliant. I don't eat meat so can't compare to WR i'm afraid but even under pressure (as they were on Saturday-apparently their busiest Saturady ever thanks to Valentine's) they are so friendly and polite. Oh and the fish is top notch too. Think Sopers is great as well, just this is nearer now.
  3. According to the website they are shut.
  4. If you are planning to walk in, there is a great website called walkit.com which will tell you best route and approx how long if you are a slow or fast walker.

    Apex man

Yes, very pushy. Worth keeping an eye out for as they are definitely looking for when people are in and then pushing for phone no.s. If they were nicer they may even get some people's details off them!
  6. We had the call from Apex today- behind Goose Green. Very pushy and did not like it when I would not give my phone no. Refused to leave me the leaflet unless I took them up on the offer. Wanted to know whether I would be in mornings or pms for an assessment but did not want me to ask my other half and call them back. Kept pushing for times we were in and phone no so told police who apparently sent a van out to track them down. There were 4 guys operating on our road at the time, so they are obviously doing one area at a time. The guy we had was very persuasive and I can see people falling for this unfortunately.
  7. Following on from what Debi said it is true that Kingsdale have an individual tour policy but there is also a Kingsdale open morning this Thursday 18th Sept 9.30 until 11.00am. There is then an open evening on the same day (18th Sept) 5pm to 8pm. The other open dates are Sat 20th Sept 11am - 1pm, Weds 24th Sept 9.30-11am, Sat 4th Oct 11am-1pm, Weds 8th Oct 9.30-11am and Sat 11th Oct 11am-1pm. Hope this is useful.
  8. Have to say, took my 3 year old to see 'Wall E' the other day at Peckham. Manager spotted us and gave us a booster seat and we positioned ourselves on the high seats at the back so we could not disturb anyone if said 3 year decided to comment on proceedings the whole way through. Unfortunately we left favourite cuddly toy there and did not realise until bed time, when I rang they sent someone to look straight away and and 2 days later when we picked up the toy all staff were aware of the toy and the situation and fell over themselves to get it for my child. So, no comment on actual facilities or the choice of films, but generally my experience was that I was impressed with the level of staff friendliness/politeness/helpfulness.
  9. Are you the same people who do coffee from a little van on a Saturday on Rosendale Road, West Dulwich? Their coffee is always fantastic and of high quality - nice people too. If you are, then I am very happy. If not, good luck anyway!
  10. While not getting into the whole estate agent debate which seems to have developed on this thread, had to get a tyre replaced on our car last week because of a great big screw being stuck in it. When I went into Blenheim tyres, the man told me that he has had loads of these in recently - he thought it someone/people were going round balancing them in front of the tyres so they punctured when people drove off. Have to say though, is first time in over 6 years any had any car trouble round here.
  11. Our child will hopefully be attending the nursery in September - it is our first choice, though not our nearest. Have been in a couple of times and it seems lovely - very creative, and although not the b and end all - results are good too.
  12. Hotel Gershwin is cheap-ish and you either have your own room or stay in a dorm. It's mid-town and fairly near the Empire State. Lovely friendly staff and quite cool - has an original Warhol soup can in the lobby. Gets booked up early though. Also, Hotel 17 is cheap but crazy decor - we stayed in a room with gold sheets and wallpaper!
  13. I am not dead but I used to post on here. Would hate for anyone to think I was dead when I am just choosing not to post.
  14. Oops sorry then pablogrande for jumping to defence when perhaps should have realised that it was jokingly linked to another thread somewhere, serves me right for not keeping up with it anymore. Was a bit early in the morning and had not found my sense of humour yet.
  15. Wow, pablogrande, I am confused to what this actually means and whether it applies to the girls that run The Gallery. Went in on the 2nd or 3rd week and I believe these 3 local (2 live in ED, one in WD) girls are genuinely trying to set up an independent art gallery in ED. I know one of them well, and although this does not speak for whether she is clubbing seals in her spare time (though she has never mentioned it to me) she is an animal loving strict vegetarian! They have been working really hard to get The Gallery back up and running after the flood and I for one, will plan to visit this weekend. Admin- this post above seems to be accusing a business of being something it is not, I know I have been away, but are these not normally removed? Not sure what is more bizarre the seal clubbing accusation or the 'multi national' bit?!!
  16. Moxons I think, though I believe they are not strictly 'in season' at the mo, so there may be a shortage. Bought a nice big seabass from there the other day tho.. Back on topic, have to admit I find anagrams hard, must be the dyslexic in me.:-$
  17. I have a blackberry from work and I love it. You can set it to awitch off at 6pm if you want and switch back on at 9. I don't however and have had the berry wrestled off by my husband when I think it's a good idea to email my line manager drunkedly at 11 o clock at night. i also think it is a nicer shape as a phone to put against your ear.

    The Plough Pub

Wow, there is praise indeed. In that case it should be a venue for forum drinks at some point.
  19. Well, truth is Bob, it's a mixed bag round here. The amount of private schools (Dulwich Col, Alleyns, JAGs) does mean the secondary state schools are not as mixed as would be the ideal. But Charter (state) is definitely oversubscribed and now Kingsdale (state) is. Not sure if any ch from ED go to Waverley, sorry Harris, or Peckham Academy. Many look the borough of Lewisham to Haberdashers and others.
  20. Yes, had heard her sister lived there but was unaware she was actually staying there -that would explain the visibility of the heavies, especially at this time.
  21. The incident that Betty123 mentioned was an attempt by the same person (exact same description-ginger hair 20-30, small goatee) I have heard on Wednesday near Rosendale School. This time he was in a car though.... Again, not scaremongering, but passing the message on.
  22. lol ladygooner my child obviously would not eat ferrereo rocher as they are not organic or green. ;-)I, however, ate 2.
  23. We went this morning and can't say mini-mumra was impressed as decided to projectile vomit in the bread aisle. There was a lovely lady called Sharon who was very helpful though and we did get given a ferrero rocher (they're really spoiling us) at the door so not all bad. Starbucks have put their prices up I observed, but that is probably a countrywide thing. Overall, before our incident in the bread aisle, I have to say I was quite impressed. Much bigger fruit and veg aisles for a start and although car park was nearly full I did not have to queue at the checkout, and I found a mother and baby carpark space, which is often a rarity.

    Playground Games

Is that the same as British Bulldog? There was always an urban myth floating around that it was banned nationally but we always carried on thinking we were uber cool/dare devil like for playing something that was not allowed.
  25. Hmmm sounds lovely, but a bit far to travel methinks with a couple of cars full of toddlers. Seriously, all areas 3/4 hours or less out of London would be great. Used to go to one in Kent which was just a field where they let you have bonfires but they have stopped doing it now :( The infamous Blackberry wood is booked until October (!) and The orchards in Suffolk is again booked up till August. Though I have to say there may be a few cancellations this weekend with the flood warning..... But we are going next weekend when the sun will return I am sure!
