The will does have to be witnessed by two people - those two people are not allowed to be left anything in the will. See here: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200084/recycling_and_waste/1667/bulky_waste_collection/1 It's possible that your neighbors don't know about this (hence the mattress is in the front garden) or perhaps they have left the mattress out pending collection (seems unlikely from your post). I don't know whether this is something that I would do, but you could perhaps tell them about this service in the guise that you're just trying to be a helpful neighbor, rather than a complainant.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I have just had a cold-caller (about 5 minutes ago, at 20:50) knock on my door on the Abbotswood Estate. He got as far as introducing himself as Jason from the Organisation for the Homeless before I told him 'it is way too late' - he then huffed and walked off without saying anything. Anyone else had the same guy cold call them? Was he selling something?

It doesn't always work out like this. I arrived at the station the other day and there should have been a train to LB within 1-2 minutes of my arrival. I ended up waiting about 25 minutes and, even when one did turn up, it took longer than the 12 minutes to LB that it is meant to take - it was more like 20. Net effect was that I was very late for my appointment. To make it worse, I checked the trains before I traveled and there was nothing on the National Rail website or the phone app suggesting the trains were delayed. The Southwark Council allow something like 6 'bulky item' disposals per household per year. The collection can be organised on their website (you need to register on the website first). The website also states what the council will and will not take, e.g. the item must be no bigger than x etc. I know you said you don't have access to tools to cut it down, but a small hacksaw can be ordered from Amazon for ?5.95. You would easily be able to cut it down with that; if it is too big for the council to take in its original state, then cut it up into smaller pieces.

Is this restaurant Veer Zaara? I received a leaflet through the door from them with the same claims. I'm sceptical about such awards. As a kid I used to work in a fish 'n' chip shop (not in this area). The owner used to tell me that he was often approached by companies offering to sell him these sorts of awards. I suspect that is what has happened here. That said, I actually like Veer Zaara and think it is one of the better curry restaurants on the lane. I've seen a few negative comments about them on this forum but the comments are old. For me, Veer Zaara is underrated; the most overrated is Tandoori Nights (although from reading recent posts it seems that this place used to be really good but it has gone downhill). Surma is decent too.

Hello all. Apologies for hijacking the thread momentarily.... are there any decent curry houses near Peckham Rye station? I've heard good things about ganapati, but we're not all that big on South Indian cuisine.

Does anyone have any news Re the lady's condition? From what I heard today, it's a bit premature to say she has survived.

Are we certain that the lady is dead? I spoke to someone outside the station who said she is alive but it was 'looking grim'. It's extremely sad.

I don't know whether they are any good yet, but we have just had ours done by a company called banbridge surveyors. http://banbridgesurveyors.co.uk/ I went with them because they were very reasonably priced and they received decent reviews online. Martin has also been really helpful talking me through the various options and other concerns etc. So far I recommend, but I don't have the report yet. [update: received the report - all great, would definitely recommend.]

Hello everyone! My girlfriend and I will be moving to East Dulwich soon. We have not lived there before but have had an offer accepted on a house on Abbotswood Road. Wondering if anyone can offer any thoughts on the area? Is that road a 'good' choice? Also, I am looking to get fit and was wondering if anyone can recommend some sports clubs?
