  1. Hi bigdavid, Really sorry to hear this. If you witness this again please do complain to the contractors rep Sam Redington on 020 8636 8822. I've certainly raised this with council officials - but they are the same officials that thought the... shall we say zealous traffic controls were necessary which do appear OTT.
  2. The legal target is to offer you a place within 2 miles. In Southwark most places offered are within 1 mile. What complicates the overall picture is where familes want a particualr faith school which is some distance away. This raises the average distances and the numbers of people over 2 miles but often from choice. Good luck and if you need any help just get in touch.
  3. Latest news on the crossing outside the Co-op on Lordship Lane. The BT telephone box was disconnected last week and has been removed today. TfL signals are currently planning to install the signalled crossing equipment this Thursday and fingers crossed it will be fully commissioned next week.
  4. Fasting blood test. I turned up at 10.30am and waited 30mins.
  5. Hi ontheRye, Apparently junction redesign East Dulwich Road with Peckham Rye is in the hand of TfL who are pleading too busy until after the Olympics. Apparently after the olympics they'll review the workload they have and then give Southwark Council timescales. My hunch would be early 2013. Hi Ms B, Foxes are a perennial problem made worse by people feeding them. Southwark Council has no fox plans. You could engage one of the 3-4 fox catchers - they apparently cost about ?80 pw. They put a humane trap out with raw chicken. When a fox is caught you call them up for a replacement trap. They take the fox in the trap away and shoot it.
  6. Sharper descents is one of the HACAN proposals to mitigate the noise caused by landing aircraft - along with aligning on landing paths earlier avoiding noisy turns over populated areas such as SE London. But Emirates are using the idea to propose an increase in night flights and specifically of the super sized Airbus A380 jets. But this shouldn't be used to excuse night flights. With time Heathrow should have less impact not more. Smarter descents is one method. Banning night flights altogether is another.
  7. Hi Razors, Yes, food waste will have bacteria in it and that could include Salmonella. At the newish Integrated Waste Management Facility on the Old Kent Road food waste goes into big concrente bunkers which stew at over 60 degrees C for from memory 30 days killing germs etc. At the end of all this it can be used safely as a soil improver/compost. I've had a detailed tour of the IWMF on the OKR. Interesting. A couple of disappointing bits but otherwise a definiate improvement on Manor Place. IF you need any more info please don't hessiate to ask.
  8. Hi ontheRye, I'll try and find out the latest.
  9. Hi Razors, I think he's in the VIP protection events! Hi LarryDavid, It is scary to hear of so many attempted attacks. The personal alarms are designed to raise alarm and stop an attack. They do help in some instances and if anyone would like a free one please email me your contact details. We do have a Police presence. It's less visible at the moment because they're locally doing a lot more undercover work. So we can't have it both ways. We want perpetrators to be caught but hard to catch them when in uniform! I can assure you local officers take the situation very gravely.
  10. Hi Razors, We will have near normal Police cover during the Olympics. All Police leave is cancelled. Our local sergeant will be at the Olympics but otherwise the local East Dulwich Safer Neighbourhood Team wlll be on duty. The Olympic park wills have 25,000 (7,000 from our armed forces) people on security. Many Police from around the UK will also be helping in London. Last week it was also announced that as a precaution against similar problems to last August lots of Riot POlice will be based in Southwark during te games.
  11. Southwark Council Community Fund has just been luanched. ?100-?1000 grant toward making community events happen. If interested please apply online. Deadline is 5pm 25 May. So probably not much use for events proposed for June or July and you can't bid retrospectively.
  12. Hi Worker, Transport Police tend to catch not just people dodging tickets. Its the others I'd be interest in them catching. Hi the-e-dealer, I'm sure they're trying but if it was that easy they'd probably have been arrested.
  13. Hi EDjules, I've PM'd you. Adding to that PM. Our local East Dulwich Police Safer Neighbourhood Team have personal anti attack alarms and many other crime prevention goods. If you or any other East Dulwich ward resident would like one please send me your details - name, address, contact numbers so we can arrange for one to be dropped round to you [email protected]. I'm also trying to arrange a session for our local Police to be present during the evening rush hour to offer personal security advice, etc. I've also asked if Transport Police team can put on some of their blitzs at ED station.
  14. Hi Razors, I have asked several times for Planning Enforcement to look at this business and I understand this buisness has been more 'accurate' with the hours of operation but not perfect. Also, spray leaving the site and structures that may or may not have planning permission. I've just asked for the latest update from Planning Enforcement officers.
  15. Hi Razors, Sorry for my lack of clarity. ?8,000 is for ALL crime prevention measures in the area - the anti number theft screws at ?1.80 for 30 and local Police already have them. So the vast bulk will be for non motor vehicle crime prevention.
  16. Hi Goose, Please see attached letter being distributed today in the immediate area around Goose Green roundabout. I think its a bit OTT but that's what is planned.
  17. Only two people have so far asked for these anti number plate theft screws. Hi Sue, Fully range of colours is my understanding. What colour would match yours? Hi tomdhu, Our number plates only have 2 screws but 2 or 4 we have plenty available.
  18. Hi Fuschia, I've just reported te problem. Amazed that's not been picked up by regular inspection regime especially something that affects the safety of our younger citizens. If you see any such defects in a Southwark park I'd encourage you or anyone else to report it yourself immediately either via [email protected] or 020 7525 2000. Personally I prefer email as I then have something I can track. Then obviously feel free to escalate to Councillors if the service isn't as it should be or you think a pattern is occurring.
  19. Thanks Renata but you've missed out some important information. Letters to all nearby residents and businesses will be hand delivered on Monday 2 April. That should anyone have queries during the works or concerns then in the first instance please direct them to FMConway the Site Supervisor ? Sam Redington on 0208 636 8822. If you get no joy ten please contact me as ones of the East Dulwich ward Councillors.
  20. The changes in Dulwich Leisure Centre classes have resulted in the larger 63 classes pw that could take 1,701participants to now 80 smaller classes taking 2,000 participants per week. So a 18% increase in participants. Good start and I'll be pushing for even more classes until nearly everyone has a class who wants one. What classes do you want more of?
  21. I can confirm the local East Dulwich ward Police Safer Neighbourhood Team have a number of such secure anti theft anti theft number please screws. If you're interested in receiving two please email me at [email protected] with your name, postal address and contact details.
  22. I will ask Police to agree to distribute these for free having provided another ?8,000 for Crime Prevention in East Dulwich. Such a simple idea. In a weeks->10 days time email if you'd like 4 and state the colour required.
  23. With other such incidents appears a spate of burglaries just north of the railway tracks. Sadly, despite the warmer weather we all need to keep vigilent with windows and doors locked when we're not in or awake.
  24. Hi sienna.W, I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you. If you tell me exactly when I'll try and find out how/who it happened. I've always found my children have been treated well when we've visited.
  25. Southwark is formulating its anti flooding plans. I've told the council's Flood Risk Manager John Kissi ([email protected] 020 7525 2062) about past flooding on Upland, Barry, Crystal Palace and Landcroft roads - expecially of basement flats - but please do tell John about any flooding experiences you've had so that Southwark's plans are aimed at reducing all flooding risks locally in East Dulwich.
