former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Latest update on the East Dulwich station works from Southern Railways to me: " The shelter on Platform 2 is now in use. The shelter on Platform 1 should have been operational quickly after this but whilst demolishing the old shelter, the retaining wall was found to need additional work to ensure the ground in this location did not subside. We expect the shelter on Platform 1 to be ready by the end of the week. We did choose June-July to install the shelters expecting reasonable weather to mitigate the loss of shelters for a couple of weeks but the unusual amount of rain has meant that their being out of use has been more of an issue than it would be normally I?m afraid. The information screen at the street level to Platform 1 is faulty and due for replacement as part of a wider project to install or replace screens on our network. This will happen over the next few months (but work can't take place over the Olympics). The clock on the information board on platform 1 is now working. The grafitti will be seen to this week and the leaky shelter has been highlighted to our facilities team to be rectified. " -

I'm realy sorry Ms B. This isnt how its meant to work. If you ever get an email it will have an unsubscribe at the bottom or feel free to contact me I'll ensure your details are removed. -
Hi DJKQ, We shouldnt need people to be injured to know it makes no sense allowing people to speed through the park environment. 5mph is good enough for Dulwich Park which is enforced by restricting people from driving through the park. Peckham Rye has a car park further in so the road needs calming. Perhaps long term the car parking should be on the edge but for now a calmed park road seems best short term solution. Short-term because road humps cause discomfort to some. So what would be your long-term solution

Southwark maps have been amended to include speed count on East Dulwich Grove - close to the junction of East Dulwich grove with Melbourne Grove 24.4mph av. speed westbound and 25.5mph av eastbound. http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/index.jsp?tooltip=yes -
I dont think that's true - Renata or the-e-dealer. You can impliment 20mph speed limits without any measures if the 85th percentil speed is 24mph or below.

Assault on East Dulwich Grove
James Barber replied to pickle23's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The attack sounds appalling. The local East Dulwich Police team has anti attack alarms still in stock. If any East Dulwich ward resident would like one please email me with your details and address and I'll arrange delivery. I'm also ensuring we get buy some more. I know this isn't a solution but if it avoids a single further attack... -
Complain via email at [email protected] if it doesn't get fixed tell me and I'll escalate it to senior officers.

I requested this planning applciation be called-in. This has been agreed. It will now go to a planning committee and yesterday the officers I chased about when told me after the summer holidays. Talking to a local residents they believe they've found a legal problem in that the application assumes rights of ways that they don't have. That after the death of a resident whose property was accessed via a service yard it wouldnt be legal for this application to do that. The more I hear the more of a pickle this application appears to be. For those that want an M&S Food - and I do REALLY like their chocloate biscuits - I'm sorry the developer appears to have made a mess of the applciation. Those against it wont happen anytime soon without a major redesign.

Hi OliviaDee, Not yet but they have been working on it. Hi Fazer71, I'm asking about anti skid covered steel plates covering road works when things not happening. Great example where this would help junction of Denmark Hill with Daneville Road. -
Matham grove has 15 properties on the northern side and 20 on the southern side but obviosuly many are subdivided into flat. When I responded to an email asking what the scheme was about I described what had been applied for. I had assumed neighbours had been asked so I'll dig out the paperwork and check with the applicant. But no one is suggesting putting apple trees in other peoples front gardens without their agrement and my assumption is it's about climbing apple trees that remain small etc. See them against walls in gardens.

The sinusoidal road humps will be installed, weather permitting, the week commencing 6 August. Apparently the road will remain open to traffic while these works take place and will be completed within the week.

Hi Fazer71, TG, Hmmm let's continue this as pm's please. Trams used to run up and down Dog Kennel Hill. So they can cope with steep hills. My understanding is if a tram link is blocked they divert across and alternate over the remaining single tram track until the blockage is cleared - this enables everything from emergency road works to broken down vehicles blocking the line. I don't see any evidence that first work countries are moving to trolley buses. As for the price of tracking my understanding is it can be done for significantly less that TfL have costed. -

Hi AlexC, Yes I agree, long overdue. ?52,617 should mean the rest of Landcroft Road, but not the pavement, is resurfaced. -

This financial year central council budgets have just been decided to pay for the following East Dulwich streets to be resurfaced ? Landcroft Road (?52,617) & Underhill Road (?53,591) being resurfaced; Chesterfield Grove (?206,569) & Colwell Road (?134,464) these roads will be rebuilt. I've asked for more details about the degree of works and when they'll be undertaken. As soon as I know I'll post it here. This is on top of the ?39,979 East Dulwich councillors allocated for North Cross Road to be resurfaced during financial year 11/12 which only actually happened recently. This leaves us with ?26,021 to spend this financial year 12/13. Overall of Southwark Councils 323km of local roads 11% of roads and 19% of pavements need rebuilding. Also some 19 ?amber? lamp posts on Barry Road will be replaced at a cost of ?38,000 ? ?amber? means lamp posts about 2-3 years away from failing. But we do have a Dulwich problem with Southwark Council chopping down 70 more trees on our streets than were planted. And this is despite local councillors allocating extra Cleaner, Greener, Safer funding towards planting such street trees. -

Hi the-e-dealer, East London Line extension phase 2 going to EPckham Rye, Denmark Hill isn't a tube extension. It's a regular local train service planned for every 15mins but as part of its implimentation the South london Line is being removed which ran twice hourly. So ELL2 will add two trains an hour - hardly the frequency you'd associate with a tube line of every 4-5 minutes. Hi Fazer71, 25% of Mahcnester tram users used to travel by car and Sheffield 20%. Plenty of buses were in place before the trams were reintroduced into those cities but those passengers preferred private cars. So yes trams, trains and tubes do attract people away from cars when new routes are opened. Trolleybuses are buses powered by electricity. They have the cost structure of buses & trams but without the mechanical efficiency of riding along tracks. -

Hi Fazer71, With running a regular bus service from very early to very late people couldn't rely upon it. So yes, at the extreme ends of the service schedule buses often carry very few people but makin gtraffic lights nuanced enough to cope with timje of day would add to the cost of running them and make such buses more expensive to run. What we really need is a tram service across Southwark which is much more likely to persaude car drivers onto them than buses have ever been found to achieve....
