Hi richard tudor, Southwark over the last 2-3 years has gone from daily litter picking to every other day - but the rounds are such that the current litter picking isn't that thorough as per my casework. From weekly to fortnightly and now four weekly street sweeping. That this year the bins arent reliably emptied during leaf falls - casework around bins on Fellbrigg Roasd, Henslowe, station, etc this year. And i dont dout the staff are trying to cope as best they can. At the same time money has been found for election promises such as universal free school meals. Politics ia about priorities. Do feel free to look through Southwark budgets - the latest is at: http://moderngov.southwarksites.com/documents/g4038/Public%20reports%20pack%20Wednesday%2029-Feb-2012%2019.00%20Council%20Assembly.pdf?T=10 You can compare to other years budgets from here changing the year and always looking at Feburary Council Assemblies: http://moderngov.southwarksites.com/ieListMeetings.aspx?CId=132&Year=2012 hope this goes some way to answering your questions.

The council used to employ a large number of temporary staff to help with leaf clearing. They're count as contractors and much political hay was made about this. The current adminsitration have decide to avoid all contractor/temps to fulfil an election pledge to cut waste spending. This is why we have such a poor service around this time of the year cleaning our streets - political dogma.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi mynamehere, Last week I responded to the consultation about Green routes. Fingers crossed we get them. I first attended a meeting about green lanes around E&C in 1994 when a resident of Tabard Street (near borough tube). -
I've been told that council operatives have been focusing on leaf clearing and not emptying rubbish bins and dog poo bins. Hence issues across East Dulwich and beyond. Not nice leaving a dog poo bins to overflow e.g. Fellbrigg. I've been assured that all bin emptying will resume today. God knows why they thought emptying bins could be optional without causing mayhem! So we should see improvement quickly - but please tell me directly if you don't.

London Overground line extension timetable
James Barber replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The inner South London Line is a terrible loss to the area. Many people who work in the Viuctoria Whitehall area will be affected and it will make our area far less appealing for such employees. Again South London is being sacrificed to help others. The fact osuth London has so many viaducts and cuttings dislocating it with resulting issues is ignored. It's a sorry state of affairs where neither Ken or Boris have clearly explained why they initiated or agreed to this. Both have hid behind it's the national govt fault whether it be Labour or the coalition. -
London Overground line extension timetable

It is a poor exchange South London Line for East London Line phase 2. Sadly it's about getting longer distance commuters away from Victoria and Waterloo than improving our services. -

London Bridge Station "Improvements" - Fewer Trains?
James Barber replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The new timetable starting 9 December will see more evenly spaced trains East Dulwich to London Bridge but the same overall number: 7.09,20,30,40,50 8.00,10,21,30,40,51 9.01 as opposed to current: 7.05,15,29,34,46,57 8.04,15,27,33,45 9.00 Hopefully when all the London Bridge works are finished they can then provide more trains on our line which from my experience very over crowded. But I'm hot holding my breath as the results of all the works will see exactly the same number of platforms - currently 6 through and 9 terminating changes to 9 through and 6 terminating. -

The East Dulwich ward Safer Neighobrhood Team ward panel - local people giving views balanced agaisnt Police information. The local Police priorities chosen are: 1. Fighting burglary - unusual spate of burglaries along Barry Road. 2. Motor Vehicle Crime - two parts. First criminal damage either deliberate or while stealing contents or parts. Second theft of scotter/motor cycles. 3. Youth Engagement - divert children before secondary school from a life of crime. -

Hi AbDabs, You're probably right that they're cloknig in and swapping paperwork collecting parts. But that is so last century working for a field force. They should have hand held terminals givng them their jobs, carrying appropriate van stock. Does anyone know one of these field engineers so we can ask what gives? -

Hi mynameHere, I can see the sense of this covering those areas that UAE controlled parking. But it couldn't solve the issues at the north end of Melbourne Grove without a CPZ and as the-e-dealersnsaysnthats not on the cards. Let me try and get Southwark Council tovfixnthis via a combination of parking enforcement and supplier management. -

That's useful AbDabs. I have highlighted this issue again but also added how it gives the appearance Southwark is turning a blind eye to its contractor. -

Thanks the-e-dealer. You quite right mynamehere that upwards of a dozen T Brown vans conregate at the nothern end of Melbourne Grove. Many are there on single yellow lines when they start operating at 8am. It unfortunate that such council contractor vans dont seem to attract Traffic Wardens - gives the impression of immunity to local residents. I have reported it several times but will try and get some enforcement again. -

Hi taper, It might be worth submitting a Cleaner, Greener, Safer bid. The application period is open for next Financial Year. This would help provide and allocate money for works. -
Thanks DulwichFox for that link. Have now discovered where the HD channels that were on channels 50-54 have gone. Really does surprise me that customers should be messed around quite so much quite so often. Bring back analogue! hi Wolis, Is it possible your aerial has been damaged or knocked out of alignment with recent high winds?

Farms and 2 years arent ideal mix from personal experience - getting them to thoroughly wash hands at every animal contact is a pain and bound to fail sometimes. Garden Wildlife garden centre worked a treat for us. Peckham softplay - I felt the need to clean it before our party as it was grubby back then. And at two they wont get that much from it. East Dulwich Community Centre on Darrell Road, and Albrighton I'm sure, have been super flexible and reaosnalby priced. Have a great party for them.

Hi PeckhamRose, Many thanks for offering to raise these thefts at the Peckham Rye ward Police Safer Nieghbourhood Team panel meeting. That panel covers about 15% of SE22. I'll raise it tomorrow night at the East Dulwich SNT meeting - covers about 65% of SE22 and majority of Barry Road

Last power cut we had my wife brilliantly suggested to the children that we enjoy having a Victorian evening - one was studying that period.

Hi the-e-dealer, I'm sorry we don't share the same political beliefs. I'm not sure you're doing a public service, which this thread attemepts to do, by vandalising this thread with obtuse comments. By all means creat your own thread to collect everything you believe I've screwed up or failed to serve. -

Grove Vale library runs a maths-it challenge every Tuesday 4-5pm aimed at children 4-11 years old focusing on times tables. Dulwich library HALL is closed 5 November to 3 December for redecorating. Surprised quite such a long -decent shop fitters would do the work in a week. -

Hi shell, I told you he was quick! They believe the column you've mentioned is curved lamp column with a rose bud lantern. These are non standard and currently non are in stock. So a replacement is on order and its manufacture and delivery should occur within two weeks and then it should be quickly isntalled after that. So overall expect it to be fully replaced and fixed by Weds 21 November. I've also suggested they might consider ordering a reserve so they do have one in stock for future problems.
