  1. Grove Vale library runs a maths-it challenge every Tuesday 4-5pm aimed at children 4-11 years old focusing on times tables. Dulwich library HALL is closed 5 November to 3 December for redecorating. Surprised quite such a long -decent shop fitters would do the work in a week.
  2. Contact the street trading officials at southwark council on 020 7525 6000
  3. Hi shell, I told you he was quick! They believe the column you've mentioned is curved lamp column with a rose bud lantern. These are non standard and currently non are in stock. So a replacement is on order and its manufacture and delivery should occur within two weeks and then it should be quickly isntalled after that. So overall expect it to be fully replaced and fixed by Weds 21 November. I've also suggested they might consider ordering a reserve so they do have one in stock for future problems.
  4. Hi Kate_LL. You can discover the legal owner of any property via HM Land Registry which is online (http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/)- costs ?4 for a copy of the deads. Be careful to only go via the .gov.uk site as others pretend to be them but put large mark-up on the ?4 but add nothing extra. I've spent a small fortune with HMLR tracking down real owners causing various problems over the years. The noise team used to be 24/7/365. The Labour administration has had to make a number of cutbacks and chose as part of those cuts to reduce the noise teams hours, etc. I would have chosen differently. And people politics doesnt matter!
  5. Hi shell, I've reported it in this instance to the manager in charge of street lighting. He's normally very quick to invesitgate and resolve with his team any issues.
  6. Hi Kate_LL, How awful. I get worse than cranky without enough sleep. Keep a noise diary so you can amass evidence. As KidLKruger suggests do try and reason at a more normal time with them that the noise is disturbing you. If the reasoning fails then the noise diary will really help. Engage the noise time to ask what they will do. Also report everything to the non-emergecny Police number 101 so it's logged formally. If the students persist then legal action can be taken and they could end up with criminal records. The people they're renting to can also be persued. If you felt really annoyed you could complian to their college about how its bringing the college into disrepute. Hopefully you never get to that desperate. If you get stuck contact me directly and I'll try and help unlock anything that's not working correctly.
  7. British Gas have a scheme offering free loft and cavity wall insulation whether you're a British Gas customer or not and you don't have to be on any benefits. So if you own your property OR the property owner wants free insulation nothing is stopping you getting it for free except inertia. This offer is worth up to ?1,000 per home. If you're over 70 or on a wide range of benefits they'll even pay to move things out of your attic. If scaffolding is required they pay up to ?475. IF you refer a friend to this scheme British Gas will even give you ?50! The closing date is 30 November. Call 0845 971 7731 to book the free survey or go online http://www.britishgas.co.uk/freeinsulation NB. I'd like to thank Donnachadh McCarthy for making me aware of this through his Southwark News column.
  8. Hi quichel, I dont think we can explore this on an open blog without potentially placing you and your neighbours at greater risk. Please email me directly at [email protected] telling me you address and the address of the what sounds near abandoned house. The council has an empty homes unit which I'd try and engage to contact the home owner assuming it empty. If its not empty then find out why they're not maintaining it properly and try and arrange some help for them. Hi matana, Tried following the lin kyou've provided but didnt work.
  9. East dulwich station - the new ramp will be completed this Thursday 1 November. The new cycle parking on the 'up' platform will be completed early the following week at the latest.
  10. Hi Artfuldogger, No junk mail is tricky becuaqse some are happy ot get political stuff and others not. If you email me your address I'll make a note to ensure you at least don't get any letters from us. Hi the-e-dealer, Which local election promise have I broken? Hi Mattydj, Sorry about the 7.30am but when should we deliver leaflets when we have day jobs and families? Hi Bic Basher, It doesnt work quite like that. You elect ward councillors. Buut the majority of policies are decided by the majority of all ward councillors. So I'm delighted that local Labour and Tory politicians are now supporting our campaign to have an ED Police station. Hi Sue, Dulwich Hospital site we hand delivered survey to all East Dulwich ward homes. For knocked on doors for most homes to try and explain the survey to encourage responses. our policies are based and informed on those responses.
  11. Hi nrworkman, I'm really sorry to hear about this. It doesnt sound like you have anywhere else to store regular bikes - not ideal but you might need to consider a Brompton folding bicycle. If you email me directly at [email protected] with your full details I could try and arrange a Sheffield parking stand close to your address - but if people are stealing parts from bikes. Southwark Cyclists have some useful information about bicycle security which in essence says use two different types of locks to secure each wheel and frame to solid fixed objects -
  12. Hi shell, Apologies for delayed response - just back from one week holiday. Which street lamp - could you please tell me either the four and two digit code on the lamp post (four digit code for the street and subsequent two digits for the lamp post iteration on that street) or the closest landmark on East Dulwich Road please? I can then ask council official. Hi Fred, I would guess many many years ago. Do you want the actual year? The road maintenance process works by a regular structural assessment - can't remember if annual or biannual - of all Southwark roads. Theythen factor whether a road has high levels of traffic, types of traffic, footfall, whether superficial Tarmac issues or whether the road foundations have failed ( lumpy roads in potholes). So a road can look Worse with potholes in the Tarmac layer but have sound foundations vs another whose foundations are starting to fail with fewer potholes. The latter more quickly degrades but fixing it costs a fortune. But leaving the former results in the latter! Grove Vale. Imnpt aware of more crashes and collisions since the change in road layout and unclear of any change in severity. But the scheme was poorly consulted and planned upon with technical corrections coming from me which makes you wonder what goes on elsewhere in the borough.
  13. The ramp should be ready for use by the end of the month - before you ask Worker!
  14. For those wondering the new concrete pad on Platform 1 at East Dulwich station is for 10 cycle parking spots - presumably 5 sheffield stands. The works at the exit of platform 2 are to remove the current steps and provide full ramp access. Regards james.
  15. What a fab idea. If anyone wants help organisnig this for their street in East Dulwich do get in touch with me.
  16. Advertising consent 12-AP-3216 has been made to keep a 6m x 3m on the side of 349 Crystal Palace Road. If you think it is enhancement or detrimental contact the case officer [email protected]
  17. I've asked Tham Water why we can't have a public meeting actually I our area. Fingers crossed I get a sensible result.
  18. If you're unhappy with the service or lack of service you get from a GP practice then complain: [email protected] Commenting on this forum although to some degre therapeutic is unlikely to change very much. You might also consider moving your customer to another GP practice. Taking money out of the pockets of any failing GP practice should make them take notice. If you're really annoyed contact the local papers - email me for specific reporter names who cover our patch.
  19. Hi northlondoner, That's a tricky one because different households pay different amounts depending the banding of the property which is related to the properties sale value a couple of decades ago. Also some households get coujcil tax discount, some pay no council tax, etc. regards james.
  20. Hi mynamehere, No, not all streets are cleaned to exactly the same standard. Quiet residential streets wouldnt need as much attention as busy shopping streets. Markets seem to generate the most waste but really its because normal shops and restaurants have to have trade waste contracts but market stalls don't. also I suspect some deviation depending on which person is cleaning and how thorough or energetic they are. Southwark also have some red routes where Transport for London are responsible with theri own regime. Saying all that all residentials streets should be litter picked every other day and swept every four weeks....unles syou know different in which case escalate to a local councillor. Proving it is tricky but dated photos are brilliant for this I've found. Regards james.
  21. Hi northlondoner, It's part of the ?70.6m spent this financial year spent of Environment & Leisure. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200110/council_budgets_and_spending/2478/budget_proposals_for_201213/1 Regards james.
  22. Hi Louisa, The planning application didn't get to the stage where it took into account supporters or objectors. It fell as it didn't meet even basic rules for building things.
  23. Hi northlondonder, The cleanliness of our streets is largely a political decision made by the largest group of councillors with some operational nous. The current administration has decided to focus our council tax (20% of council budgets), fees and charges (5%) and grant from central governemnt (75% of council main budget funds) on things other than street cleaning. But you help decide on councillors next in 2014. o get involved, campaign but boycotting council tax just makes the pot smaller to fund things from and leads to you breaking the law.
  24. Hi Gina, No stirkes that i'm aware of. The cleaning regime the council administration decided upon was litter picking every other day and sweeping one a month. I've reported instances where residents have taken pictures of litter not moving for a numbers of days several weeks to prove no litter picking was taking place. In the first instance email [email protected] or escalate the issue by emailing me. Hi bloonoo, I've reported the lose paving slab for you. If you spot another similar issue either call 020 7525 2000 or also email [email protected]. If nothing happens please do email me so I can escalate and find why the process failed.
  25. It seems extremely likely the allegations are true - so many seperate examples coming out and the Police have made it clear they think the evidence is extremely compelling. So it happened almost openly in the BBC. Many from then have said it was an open secret. So if the culture allowed it to happen with one star it is very likely other stars and people with influence have done similar. Others have now made allegations about ITV, etc. So my hope is that the victims get some sort of closure finally. to have that over their lives is appalling. That other instances involving other perpetrators are found and prosecuted. Rape of children and other abusive acts need to be exposed and criminals prosecuted wherever possible.
