  1. This chairperson of the Dulwich Community Council Cllr Lewis Robinson (whose ward this site is in) has kindly explained and my understanding is that the property owner was not happy with the public inquiry required for a CPO and is challenging it in the high court. Hence the delays to any work getting underway.
  2. I'm told today by the South Southwark Business Association (SSBA who are mostly Lordship Lane traders) that they have no plans for such late opening this year. They said "We have tried this for a number of years and unfortunately there is not the night time footfall to warrant it. In fact over the years fewer shops stayed open and there ceased to be a big enough draw. I think shops are doing their own thing this year in terms of extended opening hours and mulled wine etc etc."
  3. Hi gedwina, Southwark Council highways inspectors were made aware by TfL buses of this work yesterday afternoon. A highways inspector was due to visit first thing today. The manager had a hunch it might be to do with a Southwark Housing project around 178/180 Rye Lane. I haven't visited the site to confirm if it is this location. Eitherway, digging up the street is only meant ot occur after giving the highway authority i.e Southwark Council notice. We may have one part of Southwark Council fining another part of Southwark council for not following the rules! As soon as I have more information I'll come back to you again.
  4. If you think metal theft is a real problem one proposed solution is to make it illegal for scrap metal merchants to pay cash. If you think that's a good idea then please do sign this petition: https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/406
  5. 1-11 Pytchley Road was approved for sale at the 22 November council Cabinet committee. The next cabinet 13 December will decide to sell Badminton House (block nearest East Dulwich station).
  6. I don't believe this advertising conforms to the rules around advertising. I suspect even Straferjack would be alarmed if advertising was a free for all and allowed anywhere! I've asked enforcement officers to check this wall - some time ago and will chase.
  7. Hi gedwina, Oh no. I'll try and find out what is going on and timescales. Many thanks for alerting me.
  8. Apparently Southwark Council is the freeholder of the site. The leaseholder is Dulwich Hamlets Football Club. Unusually the lease has been described as being on a peppercorn tat te leaseholder can extend. The only way te freeholder can revoke te lease is if they have a specific purpose. Apparently residents are now pushing for this Metropolitan Open Land to Have allotments - which Southwark is incredibly short of - and are not persuaded by the ever creeping DHFC.
  9. Hi first mate, I would expect the report to talk about all data officers have received including from petitions. Equally they've been set the task of assessing controlled parking on specific streets so the more specific a petition and the closer a signature I'd guess the more weight it/they would carry. but I've never written such a report. You might want to refer to the relatively recent report about the Herne Hill CPZ extension into Holmdene Avenue. A bit different in that residents were asking for this extension but I'd guess the format would be similar if more complex on these ED station proposals. Another way to use petitions is to ask to present them to the Community Council. You'll need to decide which Community council as I imagine (but you may wish to check) a petition can only be used once.
  10. Continuing the off topic - all BT Exchanges serving Southwark are due to have inifinity by the end of December.
  11. New proposed cycle contraflows along Copleston and Oglander to fit with new junction with Grove Vale. I'm really chuffed that I suggested these contraflow as part of the changes to Grove Vale and they're now happening. Please see attached for plans - look at the bottom.
  12. Hi first mate, To be fair to Tessa Jowell her constituency is made up of 8 wards - 5 in Lambeth and 3 in Southwark. Her constituency is SW of Grove Vale which forms the border for her. NE of Grove Vale is Harriet Harman's constituency. I think you'll find most politicians whose area includes the proposed streets will be horrified. Some streets will probably be in favour of controlled parking and clearly lots of people outside those streets who will be against. Whatever a politician does will alienate some faction. You'll probably find politicians with no proposed streets in their wards much more likely to join the antis because they wont have any voters who want it. The process. Normally after such a public consultation for a scheme funded by TfL the cabinet member would decide based upon an officer report. Cllr Barrie Hargrove kindly agreed to my request made before the public consultation that the two relevant community councils be asked for their views to add to the material Barrie will consider. Hardly the actions of someone trying to stiffle debate. Timings. Camberwell CC will meet 8 Jan and Dulwich CC will meet 24 Jan. Barrie would decide in Feb. IF any proposals were to be implimented that would be before 31 March and the financial year end. The officer report should be issued 7 days before the 8 Jan. Due to holidays etc I believe that it will be issued around 23 December. When it is I will place a link on this thread or if small enough attach it or both. Hope this helps.
  13. From memory JCDecaux will be giving Southwark Council ?80,000 pa. Sounds a very profitable line of business.
  14. At last nights full council assembly I had a question asked about school places (No.10 it's logged as coming from the chair of the Dulwich Community Council Cllr Lewis Robinson). The answer stated that September 2012 an extra 1 to 1.5 form entries will required above the current capacity for the area. 1 FE = 30 children. That by 2015/16 revised forecasts state we'll need an extra 2 to 2.5FE. The recommended optimum school size is 2 FE. So assuming further investigation confirms these new forecasts we need a new school in Dulwich. The obvious place would be Dulwich Hospital. With a new government perhaps the 5-7 year process can be abridged. The reason I had this question asked is we've produced a Lib Dem paper about Dulwich Hospitals future and we need to know whether a new school needs to go on that site.
  15. But surely your point Nero is that we should make the area around the station more attractive not give up!
  16. Southwark Council has signed a deal with JCDecaux UK Ltd to allow 90 x 2.746m (9foot) tall x 1.472m (4'9") wide free standing pavement advertising hoardings. The plan is they'll be illuminated 24/7, 6 sheet rotating with the first application for one outside East Dulwich station - 11-AP-3314 - heaven only know what the carbon footprint will be. If you think this is a great or bad idea please do tell the planning officer [email protected].
  17. The trouble Loz, is you don't get to decide. If they build the new DHFC grounds and club house as per this application the freeholder of the current DHFC grounds decides what is built subject to planning permission. So even if you don't care about Metropolitan Open Land being built on. And I would be surprised if it was low rise houses. That area would fall in the urban zone and be 4-6 storey blocks OR an out of town shop or some kind. This is a major threat to East Dulwich.
  18. This would be a club house with far less room for spectators. Also the application by Hamlet Football Club avoid any mention from my look of the current grounds. We also know that a recent application to build a number of flats on their existing car park was made.
  19. Fascinating. Why would the Dulwich Hamlets Football Club need to build a new club house and football pitch behind its exsiting club house and football pitch. Unless of course the lease is up and they need to vacate the site in which case building on Metropolitian Open Land for this proposal will result in the current football pitch being turned into a more out of town shopping or housing. My fear is the latter.
  20. Item in last Friday's South London Press about a serial burglar revealing the list of things that deter him from trying to burgle a house: - pebbled or shingled patios - dog and dog warning signs - alarms or wanring stickers - well lit presmuses - anti climb paint - barrier fencing on gates/walls - motion sensor lighting - CCTV camera, dummy or live - pad sensors at doors/windows He says he never forced an entry always enterring through open doors or windows.
  21. The cycle ride is rather nice from East Culwich. Used to take me 4-5 hours depending on weather when I had friends I regularly visited.
  22. Hi thecaptain, Buses in London are managed by Tansport for London and to complain to them - https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/contact/default.asp?type=buses Also worth considering complaining to London Travel Watch - http://www.londontravelwatch.org.uk/complaints/online - the passenger watch dog. If you have no joy let me know and I can take up your case at the Southwark Tansport Comsultative Committee but itnext meets in February.
  23. Ha. If I had power I would wish it was a little more useful locally than telly power. Equally my daughter would wish for my telly power be directed at Harry and Aleowna?
  24. Hi Hare, The East Dulwich ward roads proposed either don't have sufficient front gardens or are largely paved over already. But it is an important point as such paving reduces the overall capacity for parking as only the home owners approved vehicles ca then park and the dropped kerb effectively bars people from parking.
  25. Hi boomerang, Sadly the council now only sweeps our streets every four weeks. And yes the streets look especially messy with all the leave fall rotting away.
