  1. Hi Andrew1011, You make a very useful suggestion about road making at the junction of Melbourne Grove with East Dulwicg Grove. Practically this old be very cheap to do but I'll ask what the overall processs would cost. Tnk you.
  2. Hi prickle, No I've not had a response yet. On reflection without a parking permit they'd get a ticket in majority of spaces which would not be pay and display. For the pay and display it would cost from what I recall ?2.60/hour so for one offs that might be attractive but for most non residents commuting people adding an extra ?104pcm is probably too much.
  3. Hi Alan Medic, This is my understanding. When deciding to understandably cut the total events budget the council administration decided to move from 12 to 3 events - one in the north, middle and south. They then left officers to come up with a plan. They appear to have largely left officers to their own devices. To me a Lib Dem it was obvious that you just divide the total budget up and get the eight community councils to decide what events to support and officers just vet organisations have public liability, child protection policies etc. Anyway, officers came up with the idea of celebrating bonfire night, divali, Xmas and Hanukah on one night around the 5 November. As it was meant to be celebrating so many festivals theY came up with the snappy name! Tha actual mast plan was issued only very recently. But we had wind of the south event in an email to all Dulwich Councillors and asked that the south event be explained at a Public meeting once our private emails pointing out how daft their plans were were ignored. At the public meeting Dulwich Community Council the cabinet councillor and director plus events officers were present. They had written in the officer report that the Friends of Dulwich Park were in favour of the event when those friends has contacted Dulwich Councillors telling us a fait accompli had been presented to them and given a choice they wanted to preserve the park from such a large event. Private emails had also told Dulwich Councillors that the Police were happy to support the event but at the public meeting we asked local Police who said it was the first they'd heard of the event and were horrified. The root cause is a centralising top down approach while leaving council officials to their own devices. Hope this helps explain how we got here.
  4. Mon-Thurs up to 10 stalls are allowed. Fri & Sat up to 30 stalls.
  5. I also think an eyesore and have reported it. ...but Southwark have signed a dealcwith JCDeceux for 80 free standing advertising displays on our pavements. The first for Eadt Dulwich is planning app 11-AP-3314. http://planningonline.southwarksites.com/planningonline2/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9542256
  6. Hi puzzled, I've been away on family holiday for 3 days. I'm cussing you! The Colour Thief......was going to be a celebration of bonfire night (with a bonfire), divali, Christmas and hannukah. The friends of Dulwich park were against it? The Dulwich society were against. Local Police said it was the busiest weekend of the year due to all the pre booked firework nights in the Dulwich area and they couldn't support another one. We have lots of local firework displays in the area. Sending ?78,000 on a one hour event that could be rained of. So Southwark Council after having much feedback the idea was bonkers in private and at a public meeting in the Dulwich Library decided to press ahead. It then cancelled once the press were involved. Southwark has now found it can have a great bonfire night in Southwark Park for only ?25,000 leaving a considerable sum over for an event yet to be decided in the Du Which area. I'm hopeful that will be a super boosted Dulwich Festival.
  7. Hi Calculus, But one of the options is for the controlled parking to only operate 10-12, which is the minimum period thought enforceable and can be enforced using the same people who enforce the Herne Hill CPZ which operates 12-2. Hi Trizza, I'm just back from a 3 day holiday with the family. I didn't get one with them this summer due to mothers illness. Hi Karter, I was under the impression such zones boost house prices but that wouldn't influence my reaction when the consultation feedback is in. And no I haven't a clue how people will react on the streets the CPZ is proposed. And yes I do support this consultation and residents being asked whether they agree with the 40+ who have complained and asked for this. I am proud to have ensured one of the options is that residents are being asked about any controlled zone operating 10-12. And no I haven't prejudged what my reaction to residents responses. If it's clear they are for or against that will be what I try to ensure happens. My only caveat is that the views of those on the actual streets will carry more weight for me as they have to live with the parking stress. Clearly those neighbouring should be taken into account but the idea residents in Nunhead or Forest Hill have an equal weighting is bizarre.
  8. Hi Andrew1011, I think what is proposed is probably the best overall compromise in the circumstances. But perhaps we need to check if your perception of speeding is true. Once the speed humps are reinstalled i'll ask if we can have a traffic/speed count. Hi The Palmerston, Let me make a point of looking up tomorrow and coming back to you. Hi riddles, Southwark have no master plan to roll out controlled parking. This consultation is a direct result of over 40 resident complaints about parking stress and asking for controlled parking. Many people on the doorstep on those streets have asked for about controlled parking but of course those that are happy or it's not an issue for them don't raise it. It will be interesting to see what residents input. Councillors input. I've ensured one of the options is for the zone to operate 10-12 to deter commuters but minimise the impact on local businesses and residents - I had asked for 11-12 but practicalities of enforcing that would be a problem hence 10-12.
  9. Hi Andrew1011, I'm not aware of any such legal threat but practically you can't expect double decker no.37 buses to go over speed humps and if they did it would cause vibrations for neighbouring houses. The alternative practically would be to sec the bus route for a period which would leave less mobile people in the lurch. The end result will be a resurfaced Grove Vale and a better crossing for people accessing Goose Green school from north of Grove Vale.
  10. Hi Peckhamboy, Think I've answered your query via a pm. The council is loath to spend money on consultations as that appears as communications along with all the public relations people. So I believe that consultation areas are more narrowly defined now. For resurfacing roads they ask the contractor to do a letter drop at their own expense to homes and businesses immediately abutting the works.
  11. Hi Michael, Zebedee, Thought we'd answered these questions on the forum recently. Have you searched the forum for the answers?
  12. Call 020 7525 2000 and complain. If that fails please email me with your name, address, type of collection missed and date of collection missed.
  13. At full Council Assembly on Wednesday the absolute crime rates for each ward were reported. It showed East Dulwich ward had the lowest number of REPORTED crimes in Southwark. The lowest number was 873 from memory, about 3 per day with bulk being relatively low level crime. This is one of reasons we no longer have a dedicated Police sergeant but share one with Village ward. If you analyse crime per population we're around the lowest/second lowest rate of crimes in Southwark and best quartile in London as a whole and best 5% for inner London. But every crime has victims and often life altering in some way. One of the most hidden and serious categories of crime in East Dulwich is domestic violence fuelled by alcohol. We have 50 licences premises along the 1000metres of Lordship Lane that host businesses. To me that seems saturated and I will seek to have saturation policies regarding licensed premises brought to East Dulwich to help avoid such crime getting worse. What do you think could help reduce crime locally.
  14. Hi The mnkey and Prickle, Yes and no. If the majority of residents want Controlled Parking Zone and choose the all week day operation choice then yes. But if they choose the 10-12 option then they'd only need a parking voucher if they arrive or leave during that time. I'd just book plumbers etc to arrive after noon or similar. But you would be able to say to visitors you should be ableto park close to the house. It's a trade off.
  15. Attached is copy of a letter being delivered to local homes and businesses today. Their is one spelling mistake of Oglander Road which I'm assured will be corrected for the versino being delivered. The mention of Melbourne Grove humps beign removed - they will be put straight back at the end of the works.
  16. Hi dbboy, This is not my proposal. I want people to be aware of what is proposed and encourage people to comment into the public consultation. Many people receive consultation documetns and before realising what they are put them out for recycing. Hi nielsen99, The gas and water works are from many many decades of underinvestment. But yes I'm sure they could be faster. Delays are from the volume of traffic. More people walking, cycling, taking the bus would help immensely. Also 50% of all cars in Southwark start and end their journeys outside Southwark. If more of those people took trains it would also help make the area more pleasant. Hi the-e-dealer, Yes, I was in the vacinity several times - one gloriously sunny day thinking I was paying attention but obviously in retrospect just enojying the sun. Another late for a meeting at the Harris school and flustered. We do live in a lovely part of the world - especially when the sun is out. Hi Higster, Do respond to the consultation and get your neighbours to respond. The clearer the answer the better for Peckham Rye councillors to act.
  17. Hi alachlan, Two options for the Controlled Parking and both are for Mon-Fri. Hi peterstorm1985, Before Southwark rolled out on street parking for car club cars some residents did exactly what you are suggesting.
  18. Hi prickle, I'll find out 'cos that sounds an excellent dodge to defeat the system. I'd hope the mobile phone was goving some GPS but doubt it. Visitor permits. I'd guess that if they were all ?1.60 then some residents might buy lots of books and sell them on. Most visitors would be weekend and evening for most people. If people decide they want controlled parking I hope they choose the 10-12 option which again would mean most weekday visitors wouldn't be affected.
  19. Hi TE44, It would be interesting to see that Notts information about Veolia costs. Could you get a copy and share it? Thanks for the C4 look up 4OD. Useful. Lets both go and have a look at what Veolia are doing for Southwark?
  20. hi VikkiM, I welcome our joint agreement on protecting essential services. But in February the Labour run council passed a more right wing budget than arch Dulwich Tory councillor Toby Eckersley. He is renounwed for his zealous fiscal prudence but made budget proposals that did not see the need to increase reserves - and he was the executive/cabinet councillor in charge of council finance for two years from 2memory 2006-2008. The proposed alternative budgets by both the Lib Dems and Tories have to by law be counter signed by the councils Finance Director as fully workable. He signed both alternative budgets that did not more than double the councils reservices over the 3 years as fully workable. I don't know how having a legally balanced alternative budget proposal counter signed by the finance director is being dishonest. Pointlessly stashing away many many millions into reserves for a rainy day when it feels like its raining a lot now is dishonest. The latest budget statements showed a ?4M underspend also beign added to reserves. The Labour council has the money please spend it.
  21. Hi ss18, Apparently it is two humps out of thirteen. No details yet on which one's or by how much more than 100mm + tolerances they're out. The more pronounced the humps the less attractive the route for lorries! So correcting these two faults wont help. The only effective way to is to block the road or width restrictions. Both would take some arranging. Width restrictions tend to cause a lot of noise - reversing lorries etc. Blocking the road we'd need to consider where. But the very frst step would be any traffic count data - let me see what Southwark has in its records and if any recent automatic count data and come back here with it.
  22. mrure, it absolutely matters what our streetscape looks like. It affects crime rates.
  23. Hi mummypig, As vehicles vary is size the council wouldn't mark the individual boxes for people to park in. Hi Peterstorm1985, I did;nt read it like that. IF residents want the council to enforce no parking outside their home then thats anyone parknig getting a ticket. If residents don't want that enforcement then they will get blocked in by non friends or family/ take pot luck. Hi alachlan, The council could charge differently for homes with 2nd or more parking permit requests. They;ve not chosne to do that but to be honest the stats I've been shown are that if commuter parknig is removed 2nd cars wouldn't be a problem.
  24. I agree with you alachlan but that's not what the council administration proposed. But an all or nothing apporahc at this stage obviously mean doing nothing. Some residents are so upset with the stress they're currently under that the consultation should definately proceed in my view and take it from there.
