  1. Hi Bunny19, I've very recently asked about this and was assured June (this year). But a little nagging voice makes me wonder whether the Labour administration wants to maximise the gap between the reopening of the gym and the Lib Dem administration that made the decision and allocated the capital.... I'll rechase the lead officer to find out the very latest. Thanks boomerang. I'm sure you' right but equally if a member of staff has told one visitor the wrong information you can be sure they will have and will tell others. So I'll chase this down to avoid this. Hi dazeycat, I've not heard back yet. Let's give the of officer a couple more days and then I'll chase them again.
  2. It's referendum day. Great vibe from people I've met out in East Dulwich this morning while delivering Good Morning leaflets. To thE maxxi's of this world voting NO to AV will kill aniy electoral reform for a generation in the way we select our MP's. Voting YES will get us a better voting system now and will keep the possibility of PR alive. If anyone is at a loose end today plexus do come and help get YES voters out to vote.
  3. Hi sue, I'm afraid i'm not aware of any delivery issues to Palmerston. But feel sure a Saturday delivery could be rearranged to complete before the official 8am start of the road closure or the pratical start time of when Market traders are meant to be on site 9am.
  4. If the AV referendum results in a NO then I doubt we'll have an further chance of MP voting reform in my lifetime. If YES wins on Thursday and over the following MP elections I could see further reform happening. If you want a YES on Thursday can you spare any time to help with the campaign in East Dulwich? If you can please get in touch and help change parlimantary politics. [email protected]
  5. It was and confirmed that a reconsultation about Sunday opening will take place in 6 months time. That North Cross Road will be closed between Lordship Lane and Nutfield Road on Saturdays between 8am and 5pm.
  6. Which bit of Goodrich Road - the western end from junction with Dunstan's Road is cover by the East Dulwich Safer Neighbourhood Team and to the east the Peckham Rye one.
  7. If AV wins in the referendum on Thursday I suspect the ramifications will be far more than we currently appreciate. For the 1st time even no main political supporters will have a reason to vote. We'll see what everyone first preference is. This is bound to show that in some areas a minority party everyone assumed would never win enough support to win is actually far closer than anyone imagined. It would also be a real pleasure to not squeeze voters by pointing out it a two horse race and voting for anyone else is a wasted vote. The turnout would increase and whoever wins would have to have more than just the biggest minority - they'll have to have more than 50% of voters preferences.
  8. Dulwich Pool showers aren't working. Bizarre that after ?6.1M the shores should fail. So please do be prepared to go home all chlorine covered and shower at home. I've obviously reported this asked when they failed, when they'll be properly working again and what they've had to do to the pol to ensure it's hygienic. Despite this the floats session today was really popular with more floats for the kids than last time.
  9. Hi Boaname, the gut feel was from before the parking survey was started based on how many fre parking places outside commuter hours. But it will up to residents to decide during the formal consultation whether they want a controlled parking zone or not. When I received the parking survey results I'll make a point of posting them here.
  10. We had a really interesting Dukwich Community Council on Thursday evening. We learnt that anti social crimes includes malicious phone calls and that most of this crime type in East Dulwich is one person calling the police repeatedly. so apart from this East Dulwich continues to have "the lowest notifyable offences in the borough". It was also clear that in College ward something like 1 in 6 or 7 crimes is related solely to petrol thefts from two Shell petrol stations. The officer in charge of forecasting for school places talked thoroughly about primary and secondary school admissions and bulge classes. Useful q&a session followed. The past certainty we wouldn't need an extra primary school didn't come across. yet he also made it clear that the orating bulge classes appear to be solving the problem. Hopefully our local primary schools won't become academies where they'd be less likely to support the area collegiately. Superintendent Burden gave a presentation about a London wide review of how residents wants to be communicated with. This appears aimed at the survey results making it easier to close police station front desks. The criteria for keeping a front desk is 12 visits per 8 hour shift. Use it of lose it - East Dulwich police station.
  11. Next year is the queens diamond jubile of being the queen. So you have a ready made excuse next year. And for those who wish they had had a street party yesterday - still plenty of g old reasons to have one this year.
  12. Two things I thought might be of interest. 1st is attached plan of the section of North Cross Road that is planned to be closed from 7 May every Saturday 9am-5pm. Its the short section between Lordship Lane and Nutfield. 2nd is application form if you have an idea for a great community event that needs funding.
  13. Hi Lou, If you have any specific questions please meial me and I will get specific answers for you. The minutes will be very general and not virbatum. Any presntation will be included in the minutes.
  14. Hi sue, some streets are comingled and some are NOT comingled yet. Please don't make generalisations as Southwark and East Dulwich espeically is patchwork of different recyclnig options.
  15. Hi bonaome, As part of the Grove Vale scheme council contractors have been doing almost exactly that - apart from referencing the DVLA. Every hour every potential parking spot has been checked to see if cars pre 6am and post 7pm and what cars between those hours. From that its then reasonably clear which cars are residents, visitors, commuter/local workers. The initial gut feeling is that 20-25% of the current day time parknig is commuter parking. Removing that would make residents lives and shops much easier to park.
  16. Hi traveller1, You've suggested I've linked SATs with secondary school admissions. Where have I done this? My concern is a debate by anonymous people on this thread about a named head teacher. Apart from the unfairness of this it also makes other heads in the area nervous and concerned about whether working in our community is such a good idea for them. If anyone has issues with any local East Dulwich school that you've not been able to resolve with the scholl then please do get in touch with a one of your local councillors. As it happen I've visiting ED Harris Boys school, Goodrich and hopefully Kingsdale on Monday 9 May - so a perfect opportuntiy to take up any concerns.
  17. Hi silverfox, I think you're confusing count in the terms of will all the 1st preferences be phyiscally counted - clearly yes they are. And will they all count towards the actual result at that time which is a clear no because if you voted for the 3rd or 4th placed candidate etc your vote didn't count towards the actual elected representative in that round. SO, your 2nd preference is taken into account. It might at that point result in one of the candidates having over 50% at which point your 2nd preferences would have counted towards the result.
  18. Hi Sue, I'm afraid it has become more complicated. A public Dulwich Community Council meeting was held with about 100 attendee at Christchurch to make recommendations as requested by the Licensing Committee. At the end of the very constructive public meeting the recommendations produced were VERY clear no Sunday market. At the Licensing Committee they first threw out all the recommendations made. When they realised that meant no changes of any kind to the current market they then re-voted to re consult on Sunday opening of the market in 6 months time. So sadly not as cut and dry as the residents, traders, shop keepers and councillors of East Dulwich wanted or reasonably could have expected. If the Licensing Committee had weighed up the first consultation which appears in favour of sunday opening with the recommendations from the public meeting giving a very different picture being strongly against then I could see that the 6 months was to make sure overall good decision. But as the Licensing Committee gave the impression of being whipped and the Labour majority didn't ask questions about weighing up the conflicting public feedback it gives the impression the Labout administration want to ram through Sunday opening. That to avoid this happening the community will have to very organised to fight against it. Two members of the Licensing Committee will be present and you can ask them directly what happened and what they think we need to do to ensure East Dulwich residents, traders and shop keepers voices are heard on this matter.
  19. Tomorrow night is Dulwich Community Council focusing on East Dulwich issues (7pm East Dulwich Community Centre on Darrell Road): - 'Bulge' classes. - Primary and Secondary school admissions. - North Cross Road Market changes. - Two proposed new Lordship Lane crossings (East Dulwich Grove junction, outside Coop). - Grove Vale road changes. - Changes to the local Police service. - Local Crime issues. A chance to ask lots of questions and contribute to the debate. Also a Southwark wide proposal about carbon emissions charging for Controlled Parking Zone permits with be discussed.
  20. Please, lets be clear Goodrich is not a failing school. Its SAT results are in the top quartile of value added for the country. From memory 19% of pupils are entitled to Free School Meals - which used by many as a measure of having pupils who need more support. This big school clearly has room for improvement and is about to undergo this years SATs. Such bog school don't have butterfly transformations into outstanding schools but I suspect we all wish it could. I'm clear both parties to this would prefer this episode had never occurred and this thread is not helping resolve the unintended problems and fall-out from a single poster. If you care for this school and its whole family of kids, parents, teachers, support staff, governors and indeed the head then please be far more reflective on what you post and whether it helps this school succeed.
  21. Hi adam85, Dulwich Leisure Centre gym should be fully reopened, ending the temporary arrangements, late June. Hooray. This has taken for ever. The Dulwich Leisure Centre clock has been fixed and should tell the right time from tomorrow. Camberwell Leisure Centre gym which was your question should reopen later this year. The uncertainty over this date is apparently due to a planning decision yet to be taken.
  22. The website only semed to present research against street lighting and referenced 'research' of anecdotal pllice reports. It purports to support keep skys dark for astronomers who would not accept such anecdotes if related to astronomy.
  23. Hi adam85, No, afaraid I don't. It later this year. I'll ask and report back.
  24. I've looked at the picture again and it looks like a black man with a white beard surrounded by angry white people dangerous weapons. Oooh goody. The Daily Mail thinks it should decide who gets or keeps what job. A veritable job lynching. The Daily Mail has proved the heads point for us.
  25. Article in the Indie last Thursday. Until 1950's many towns returned more than one MP per seat - the winners were selected under a form of ....AV. Universtires returned MPs who were selected under a form of ....AV. They didn't have computers. No one decried the expense of selecting who represented those seats. I've been a local election candidate and an agent in a recent by-election. Under AV the forms that would be used would remain broadly the same and the count would remain mainly the same. In certain respect the counts for MP's are simpler than local elections in that only one final winner. Whereas local elections people have three votes on the same ballot slip - much more complicated. So the argument parliamentary AV counts would be more expensive than FPTP and more difficult to run are suprious from my experience.
