Pathetic old racist fart on Frogley road (Lounged)

Tricky one Tony: my view, there is no relationshsip between skin pigmentation and dancing ability. Self-parody as high art! (td)(td)(tu) -

Tony - It is probably beyond you to read properly into this subject, and to appreciate the worthlessness of terms such as "race" and "black" in relation to the phenomena of certain groups appearing to be better at certain events than other. It is difficult to enter into a conversation on this issue with someone who takes such a simplistic and frankly suspicious framework of analysis (see your ludicourus and frankly offensive schoolboy experiment). A few minutes will show you that this is (as a previous poster explained very cogently) a deeply complex area where the science is not at all settled. There is in fact a University Department dedicated to the study of East African endurance athletes (try Googling "Yannis Pitsiladis"); and the evidence emerging out of there about the complex relationship between athletic performance and genes, environment and culture demonstrate that your simplistic approach to this issue is utterly risible). -

My teacher friend reckons you've got an unhealthy obsession with race and skin colour Tony. He reckons God's own mongrel race - the Brits - were made to cycle though. -
Of an evening, the service at the Herne is fabulously awful. They have some sort of weird ordering system which exacerbates the whole thing. I've given up going. The Montpelier off Bellenden has gone to the dogs as well.

You've gone emoticon mental Tony ~(O_O)~. My teacher friend says he's having problems rounding up enough Jewish children with plimsoles and wonders whether he might use Irish diaspora instead? -

Tony - Apart from sprinting and natural rhythm, what are the other "clear differences from people [Jewish, AC, Chinese, White-British, Asiatic presumably] living in the same areas and exposed to the same lifestyle" you've observed? I'll see if my teacher friend can add that to his consideration -

Well of course we agree that Jeremy, but it wasn't your original point. I know a PE teacher in London, Tony. What do you want me to ask him? -

Straw man Jeremy. No-one on here has argued that genetics don't play a factor. -

Differences between what Tony? You and Jeremy seem to put it down to race or skin colour. This is a nonsense. There are undoubtedly differences in physical attributes among regional populations, attributal to environmental factors. So the Dutch, having been the short@rses of Europe, are now the tallest population in the World (they're pretty good at Volleyball as a result). Samoans are over represented in NFL. And Irish Americans have large feet and make good policemen. The problem is when you obsess about such trivia (and race seems to underpin a lot of what you say on this Board Tony) , it opens up for some a rather unpleasant agenda of attributing other traits to regional popultations; so intelligence, tendencies towards criminality and so on. This in turn gives rise to the Charles Murrays of this World, and beyond that some of the darkest episodes in human history. -

You're confusing correlation and causality my friend. Look at some of the scientific literature before you dole out the ad hominem guff. It's a complex picture -
Might Be opening a New Bar/Cafe in E.Dulwich

I reckon central ED is at saturation point for this kind of thing. Perhaps consider locating off the Lordship Lane track, but pick up a similar demogrpahic. So near Peckham Rye, Goose Green, Bellenden? -

Different population groups are clearly physically distinct, shaped by natural selection to suit their particular environments. But physical differences between human groups does not mean these differences can be reduced to racial distinctions, and certainly not skin colour. Apart from dancing and sprinting, what other traits do you put down to skin colour Tony? -

Natural rhythm eh Tony? White men won the 100m in 72 and 80. And the 200 in 68, 2000. More besides. And what of the middle distances? Coe, Ovett used to dominate; then north africans; before them Finns and Czechs. What does this say of racial traits? Chuff all. The notion of race is biolgically meaningless. -
Half marathon route in East Dulwich
taper replied to coachkelly's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You have about a 10% chance of getting in through the Ballot. Thought about going down the Golden Bond charitable fundraising route? You'll get a place if you can convince member charities you'll raise circa ?1500. I can recommend a few if you're interested. -
Half marathon route in East Dulwich

you can rack up a half by running around and between dulwich park, peckham rye and nunhead cemetry apretty easily. sat nav watch will tell you when to stop. which one are you running? -
There's a great letter in Southwark News about SNUB bags: a woman from outside East Dulwich writes about her experience in a North Cross Road greengrocers when she asked for a bag. Inevitably, a SNUB bag fuelled explosion of eco-self-righteousness followed. I'll try to find a link.

It isn't safe. And children over 4 are too big for trolleys. Parent and child parking near the store is a perfectly reasonable policy.
-
There is a road safety element too. it's a rather dangerous car park, so the closer young children are to the store, the safer.
-
i'm smug middle-class, so was able to socially categorise them immediately. the alacrity with which people sans children use child parking spaces in sainsbury's is one of the big issues facing the area.

That hill is a killer. A combination of the lights halfway up, the poor road surface, the left turn onto Champion Hill, and the fact that I am a blubbery hellbelly. I am seriously considering juicing up to make my commute a little easier.
-
I was verbally abused in Sainsbury's car park once: by a smug middle class couple who thought I'd taken a child parking spot. Imagine the trembling joy when mother and child returned to the car, killing dead their self-righteous rant. Be careful out there.

What is East Dulwich Missing - Food Wise
taper replied to SweetShopDan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Problem with sushi and vietnamese is one burp and you're hungry again. Most of the stuff people say they want on here you can get within two miles of LL. This thread takes parochialism to new and exciting limits. A Strada where Locale is would though make my life whole and complete. -
only a bozo would want their personal security, or that of their community, underwritten by criminals. what a diminished hobbesian existence that would be. and the idea that the krays did anything like that is pure myth. I
