  1. Dulwich Park used to open very early, on a Saturday at least, at its main entrance. But recently when heading there for my Saturday long run I've found the damn thing still shut at around 7am. Depends where you live, but you might want to head to the Rye if you're out early. Or Burgess Park which is open 24 hrs.
  2. marmora man, bigbad - I said the EP isn't a powerful body, by which I meant the Parliament. The EU is indeed very powerful, but that power resides in the Council and Commission. The elections are for the largely powerless Parliament.
  3. The EP is not a powerful body so, unless you want to register a domestic political message in these febrile times, there's no compelling reason to vote.
  4. I saw the aftermath of the 12 bus incident. How the hell did that happen. Still can't figure it out. Perhaps there's an ED Fight Club. But with cars and stuff.
  5. I was having a drink with my friends Brian and Glyn in The Vale last night. I took ?10 out of the whip and bought a large lager shandy, a rum and coke, and a pint of brilliantly kept bitter. When I returned ?4-85 to the whip we all agreed The Vale is: DE best value in ED Roll-on next Tuesday's post-Badminton drinks I say.
  6. I've been running for two years and still find it horrible, but utterly addictive. The horror, the pain, the physical exhaustion are just things you need to come to love. Because ultimately you will run faster, longer and get fitter, and this makes you feel real good. Plus it's cheap - ?60-100 will get you on the road, plus a quid's worth of vaseline a month. See you on the Rye. I'm the fat bloke you just overtook.
  7. BBC's reporting another five cases at Alleyns.
  8. Thank you Peckham. The rest of you: be ashamed of your filthy minds!
  9. Is the gardener's entrance round need the car park, or near that large faux marble fountain just inside the gate? what about DP? Is that impossible to get into when shut? I hasten to add my intended activities in the parks are entirely honourable. Running essentially.
  10. Why is it that Dulwich and Peckham Rye parks are not opened before about 7:30? Some of us are up with the cock at the weekend and, on these light summer mornings, want to use the local parks for physical jerks and general recreational purposes. And yet for the last month or so I've found the gates to both Dulwich and Peckham Rye parks shut at about 7pm This renders me vexed. Any chance Southwark can open them up earlier? Or does anyone know a cheeky way in?
  11. I hope you didn't bother.
  12. Sandperson - My Garmin told me exactly the same when I did a few years ago. I've never trusted it since. That's a lot of weaving.
  13. Well done! I saw Pete and Jordan at 9 miles, slipstreaming you clearly.
  14. How'd you get on? It was hot out there.
  15. Yes, the Lynn Club in Camberwell and also Fisher in Bermondsey. Both top notch amateur clubs.

  17. Terrible tragedy. I cycle through that spot every day. The Elephant is lethal, but there are routes around it which are a lot safer. If you do go around it however, either get ahead of the queues of traffic or get in line. Do not go down the left hand side of large vehicles.
  18. With all its faults, we'd be an awful lot poorer as a nation if we didn't have it. One of the most unpleasant blogs on the net is dedicated to attacking the Beeb. Shake your head in despair and read www.biased-bbc.blogspot.com
  19. A fair is being planned for mid-september in Warwick Gardens, near Bellenden. PM me and I'll send you details near the time.
  20. Christ, wish i'd not asked about the old Peckham Experiment now. I noticed it is now selling African food. Looks like a very temporary arrangement though. The building begs for someone to make a serious go of it. As for a village fair. Watch this space people. The Friends of Warwick Gardens have funding for two events this year. On 19 April, a dog day on the Gardens, will see all manner of dog related fun (NB not dogging). Dog shows, free chipping, flag the pooh. You name it. But even more exciting, in September, we will be running a big old community fair: music, stalls, fun, the works; all with a focus on creativity and the arts. PM me if you're interested in getting involved.
  21. Ooh good. Maybe my dream of living off Lordship Lane will be realised. Anyone know what's happening with the Bellenden Brasserie building? It's had a long steady decline, despite its excellent position, and now seems to be closed most of the time.
  22. Tony has been quiet for a while on the subject of race, but he is unhealthily obsessed with it. When he first came on the site, having implored us all to all to move to Welling with its "British feel", he got into hot water with posters linking crime and race. Then he and I had a spat about race and athletic prowess (and dancing I think). And now he's suggesting there's a link between race and attitudes towards homosexuality, praying (as he often does) "Blacknet" in aid of his case. This is a common theme for Tony. And no matter how many times you try to explain to him that this has nothing to do with with race and that, while his views might be innocently held, they are offensive, he will not be told.

  25. hear, hear nero. Why Benn is treated as anything other than a joke is an enduring mystery. A laughably bad minister; and a grandstander supreme, who dissembles and squirms his way out of answering questions.
