Not a joke. Piecing everything together, a car rammed a police car, the driver assaulted officers and ran away. He appears to have attepted to either hide on the railway, or cross the tracks, or run along the embankment or something, causing trains to be halted while the helicopter searched for him. He was arrested.
  2. To be fair trespassers on the line often end up either making a mess under a coach, or nicking a load of cabling, both of which are worth avoiding if poss.
  3. On the train line. The tracks. Gone now, go to sleep.
  4. Trespasser on the train line, apparently.

I was out when a bobby popped round the other week (my car was broken into) but he spoke to my housemate about these screws and left a leaflet about them that I can't find for the life of me to double-check. Almost certain you just applied for them.
  6. Crossing or not (I can see both points of view) I would question why the road surface needs to be raised? It seems to be all the rage across Southwark. As I've said elsewhere, if the intention is to have a big 20mph zone across London then have the balls to put it out to consultation and we'll see if it floats. But at the moment the town hall penpushers seem to be doing it through the back door - ie by installing something you can only drive at 20mph over every fifty yards. My suspension's knackered again, but it hardly seems worth fixing it.
  7. I drive through there every day as well, south to north up Peckham Rye in the morning then back again at night. In my experience it would just take the addition of a pause of maybe 10 seconds between the E/W lights turning red and the N/S ones turning green to allow the junction to clear before the traffic starts moving. I would also add that I've never seen anyone jump the lights there. I must be lucky. But I do see the N/S traffic setting off while the E/W traffic is still all over the place, but that's because the lights have changed too early.
  8. On Twitter: MPS Helicopter? @MPSinthesky Attempted burglary at an address in Barry Road, SE22. Supported officers and dog unit to search for the suspect. One man arrested. 12:12 AM - 9 Mar 12via TweetDeck

Again, just for the parking meter coins in the ashtray, about a tenner probably, but cost me my ?150 excess. Cop told me there's been a spate of cash crimes around here recently - someone's seemingly in desperate need of that next hit. Scrotes.
  10. Just a belated well done to everyone who campaigned to get this ridiculous CPZ idea blocked. And to add that I'll never vote for James or his LD colleagues again (and I did last time) because of the way he has conducted himself during this whole debate. He doesn't appear trustworthy.
  11. I agree with Bobby P and the others re the CPZ - the public have clearly spoken and clearly said NO. I voted for Cllr Barber last time - and if he votes in support of the CPZ this time, I will not vote for him again. In fact I will actively campaign against him.
  12. If you can't call someone who mocks a lady in a wheelchair a moron then frankly I give up. Fair play to the parkie.
  13. Cllr Barber - there are a lot of unanswered questions aimed at you on this thread. Are you withholding the answers because they don't support your pro-CPZ viewpoint? Or haven't you bothered trying to answer them because the answers would likely not support your pro-CPZ viewpoint? Here's some more for you to ignore: You stated that Southwark's car ownership was 56%. Do you accept that ED car ownership is likely to be higher than the borough-wide average? If so, why did you quote the 56% figure? How many cars are owned by residents of the proposed CPZ? How many parking spaces will the CPZ allow for? On Oct 21 you wrote (regarding canvassing views of the wider community) that "the idea residents in Nunhead or Forest Hill have an equal weighting [to those in the CPZ] is bizarre". On Oct 26, you wrote: "Some other posts indicated posters concerned about the knock on effects of these proposals to Nunhead and Forest Hill." Could you find these "posts"? Because the only one I found was on Oct 21 when garnwba wrote in response of RIS2011 launching a petition: "Getting signatures from roads near the CPZ makes sense, but seriously gowlett, Keston.... i mean why don't you drum up some opinions in Nunhead, Forest Hill area as well?" Was that a deliberate attempt to smear the anti-CPZ posters, or did you just get it wrong? You stated you would expect parking in the proposed CPZ to be 27% "from commuters" by 2016 rising to 33% "when "London Bridge reaches full capacity". Where do those figures come from? Who came up with the proposed fees for the residents' and visitors' permits? Why not give out free or cost-basis permits to residents? Finally, from a personal point of view, if this CPZ made a number of ED residents sell their cars, would you see that as a good thing, or a bad thing? (Me: ED resident, 10 min walk from ED station, outside proposed CPZ, regular driver, one car household, anti-CPZs having lived under them in the past - would move out if one was brought in on my road)
  14. James, Re Melbourne Grove speed bumps. What is the aim of these speed bumps when they are reinstalled? To keep traffic to the speed limit, or to make us travel at much less than the speed limit? I ask as the ones that were removed made it impossible for me to drive at anything more than 7-8mph over them (I have a normal small runaround car) without damaging my car. If you launched a consultation process to reduce the speed of MG to 8mph and it was passed, I would have no arguement. But this of course hasn't been done - the lower speed limit has been introduced via the back door. So, in the opinion of the council, at what speed should I be able to drive a normal car down MG after the bumps are reintroduced?
  15. No obvious answers I'm afraid. There's someone of that name living on Essex Road, which sounds a bit like Edekk Rd, but it's the one in Islington, and nothing else tallies up (completely different postcode, etc). Presuming the name is correct, there are no Clare Mitchells registered in SE21 either now or in the past 10 years. The only Claire Mitchell - with an i - in SE22 is registered on Upland Road, again the postcode and address bear no resemblence to what was written. If you want to PM me your address I can search the house history and see if anyone similar has lived there?
  16. And the "report a missed collection" page on the council's website helpfully guides you through the whole process, only to end up on: "I am sorry, but we are unable to deal with your enquiry now." What colour bin do you put unwanted council staff in?
  17. No brown bin collection here either. Come on Southwark, don't stuff it all up in Week One!
  18. Hey. Some scrote has had away with the tomato plant growing in my front yard in Landcroft Road. A fairly big cherry tomato bush in a terracotta pot. If it's been properly nicked then that's that, but I was wondering if anyone had seen one abandoned - in case it was liberated by someone on the way home from the pub who then left it smewhere else... Any clues appreciated! Cheers, Tom
  19. Hi James, Three things about Landcroft Road: 1) Can I ask if there are any plans to resurface Landcroft Road? It took a hell of a battering over winter and is remains in a shocking state. 2) Also, there is a disabled parking bay on Landcroft between Jennings and Heber. It seems to be a throwback - it never has a car parked in it and the markings haven't been maintained for years. But there's still a sign there. Is it still needed? If not could it be removed, as parking on that stretch is at a premium lately (due in the main to one resident not being able to park within 6ft of another vehicle, and another operating a presumedly unofficial car repair business on the street and having half a dozen vans parked up, but you can do much about that!) 3) Finally if Landcroft can be refurbished, I would ask for the junctions to be looked at from a safety point of view. It's murder to pull onto/across Landcorft from side roads such as Goodrich due to fast-approaching cars and awful visibility. While I wouldn't want to see a single extra "sinusoidal" speed bump anywhere ever (god-forsaken suspension-destroying hippy-inspired things that they are) a raised road like at the junction of Barry/Goodrich would probably do the trick.
  20. a chicane, SUE, is: an artificial feature creating extra turns in a roadway, used in motor racing and on city streets to slow cars. On LL I'd guess the 'extra turn' involves turning two lanes into one.
  21. Evening all. Anyone know why a couple of dozen police were kicking a door down on Landcroft Rd at 6am today? Any other police activity across ED?
  22. They've been playing Primal Scream on loop for what seems like hours. Nothing on the JAGS website that I could see...
  23. If it's any help we just got the Lib Dem parking survey delivered today up at the top of Landcroft Road. And, IMHO, anyone voting yes for it is an idiot - as BobbyP says, CPZs are cash cows that bring hassle and misery to locals and make it almost impossible at times for visitors to pop round. Hello, by the way. Nice forum.
