  1. For the attention Cllr Barber Could you provide the figres asked for to allow us to make up our minds on this
  2. I think you are missing the point. How is is it being financed? Secondly. if they can let space why have they rented a very expensive building in New Cross. Can we see the figures. When the building was rented it was to solve all of Southwarks space problems regarding staff Again can Cllr Barber produce the figures Southwark says they are making annual savings show us the long term figures regarding financing etc What if the audit commission says its a dog. Would you be happy. When the building was rented it was to solve all long term problems. Remember Southwark does not produce income it taxes its residents. So any loss does not matter. Difference between private and public sector We are the shareholders show us the accounts now

I would appreciate seeing the calculations now. The deal has been completed. How much has the council borrowed, at what rate and over what period of time and how has the loan been securitized Perhaps Cllr Barber could supply these figures. Or will they be released when people have forgotten the cost?
  4. Are these the missing hairy fannys you spoke about in an earlier message.
  5. If you live in ED you are special. Imagine coming in to contact with an Iceland supermarket and not Waitrose or M & S. Scary
  6. Lets see if ED benefits from this wonderful piece of spin when residents put forward sensible suggestions. The decision of the owners of the building to sell presented the council with a unique opportunity. The choice we had was the same as someone renting their home being offered the opportunity to buy it for a mortgage that costs less each month than the rent. The money we will save will go directly in to where local people have told us they want it spent - their front line services. "Now we have bought the building it will both reduce its annual costs in these difficult financial times and we have gained ownership of an important asset for future generations of the people of the borough. Owning the building also increases the flexibility we have in how we use it, both for the community and in terms of sub letting to other organisations and is a massive boost to Southwark and central London." costs so far. 4 years rent paid $30.8 million plus other similar buildings rented and fitted out. New Cross for one at vast cost when Tooley Street was deemed too small
  7. Now that Southwark Council has agreed to purchase the above building perhaps James Barber could inform us how this is to be funded? FOR A COST OF ?170 MILLION POUNDS Will Services be cut? Will other charges go up? Whilst Southwark has agreed to purchase this building costs will be involved to maintain the building that is now funded by the freeholder. These figures must be known or it would not have been possible to make an offer. There again its....... Can you supply without referring us to a link
  8. You seem to be in a different world. Read. If it gets to look. I repeat if it gets to look. No one has said it looks like rye lane Green shops selling water saucers for passing doplhins is limted footfall. Shops have to sell goods people want or they close. For the moment the goods offered are what people want if they are not wanted footfall will fall rents will fall and a new shop will appear with a better rental lease Areas will succeed on their own merit not by hyping them up all the time Perhaps too many people have too much invested. Ed has always been a pleasant place and after 68 years living here it does not need the hype to survive
  9. If its gets to look like rye lane it is in decline. If shops still open it is not however the shops have to be what most people want and not "fads" that fall out of fashion with the limited footfall
  10. You only report crime these days to get a cad number for the insurance. Of course people report break-ins. Its all the other crime that you do not report because you know nothing will get done. Car windows smashed, bikes stolen etc etc ED is ok but it is not the chosen land.
  11. You only report crime these days to get a cad number for the insurance. Most ordinary people know all the police do is send a letter offering councilling. That is why the crime figures are down
  12. Quote If ED crashes then the rest of the country will be in a very big chill (which might just be true) behind the scenes there is little or zero growth and massive monetary policy keeping the ship afloat - and a lot of the world thank goodness seeing London as a safe haven Never knew that ED cash flow supported the rest of the Country. Maybe it is more important than I thought
  13. Being able to row all round the boating lake in wonderful wooden boats, playing pirates and falling in. No H & S in those days.
  14. Not enough middle class poppets to keep it open
  15. Perhaps ED has always been smoke and mirrors than real substance. Credit only goes so far. More will no doubt close. Perhaps the shops were wrong in the first place
  16. Sue This was my my full generation idea to make it more upmarket NCP car park with intergrated coffee shop and estate agents with a new Indian to supply snacks. Perhaps also to include a hidden ICELAND. In New York the latest fad is prohibition bars this could be an upmarket whizz for some ED people
  17. Perhaps ED people believe they are in the film Independence Day. Went to bed one night living in their perfect fashioned world and next morning, it all changed.HELP Iceland is always mentioned but it was there long before many people moved in when not being able to afford elsewhere. Whilst it is welcome for the area to improve do not ignore the requirements of others. Rather like the old days of moving to a country village because it was cute and then doing all in ones power to make it over to to where they came from. People make an area not prissy shops.
  18. I already in an earlier message suggested a NCP. Carpark with shops
  19. Its illegal to eat human flesh
