Dear Cllr Barber Have just read this 20mph posting and am confused. Just walked from Melbourne Grove past Kwikfit and can see no markings or signs that indicate it is now a 20mph stretch. Yet from Goose Green roundabout towards the Plough 20mph markings are on the ground. Coming down to the Goose Green roundabout from the plough there is a sign that says 30 mph ends. Always thought this bit of LL from the plough was 30mph What is the correct explanation. Or have the signs been painted wrongly? DulwichFox said the signs and road markings went up last week Look forward to hearing

Would this extraordinary rise in traffic volumes over the past 6-12 months have anything to do with the ongoing water.gas electric works that seem to have closed off many roads for the past 6-12 months? forcing traffic to find others routes. Which is still going on this morning in the Bellenden area

I can endorse the last paragraph having lived in the area for almost 48 years. The current road system has worked ever since it was first put in. Tried and tested This is just change for the sake of change. An example in this plan. Why would you want to close off Bellenden/highshore Road with bollards. Lets hope the views of long established residents will be valued, I think someone asked how many accidents has happened in the one way system, from memory NONE. With such a lack of consultation lets hope that this has not already been decided.

Whilst the area has greatly improved and is very welcome not all roads have benefited. Chadwick Road from Bellenden to Grove Park has never been regened. It always gets forgotten in the great scheme. Perhaps because most of the properties are Council or Housing Association and repairs do not figure high on their list. If you doubt this observation take a walk and see.

What are the official figures showing how fast people are going. You have the number of cars going down a major road what are the figures for speed. How will 20 mph make people spend more? -

Why did you find it necessary to edit that rather long first message and respond with this one? I am sure people would have found your first answer educational like I did. However it has gone, was it wrong? Makes my response above seem pointless now as it does not appear to respond to your last message -

I can see that your University education is standing you in good stead with information. Have you manage to put your traffic education to good effect in a planning job yet? That is why I mentioned man with red flag who knows when a person will jump out. They are rather like those bollards that jump out and hit your mode of transport when you least expect them. -
20 MPH Limit Lordship Lane
richard tudor replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The high street can be used safely and shared with traffic if pedestrians use the pavements and cross at the crossings and not jay walk. Never hear of pedestrians being at fault. As mentioned before LL proceeds at a snails pace. Speed is not a problem. Would like to know where speeding takes place. Is this job creation by Southwark to employ a man with a red flag to control traffic. -

Do you mean "Lordship Lane" SE22? Traffic never seems to get above a crawl from Goose Green to the Plough. -

Explanation from Southwark Dear Mr. Tudor Thank you for your e-mail to Peter John which has been passed to me for reply. I fully understand your concern with the amount of road works in the Bellenden Road area. While the Council has powers to control the manner in which road works are undertaken we do not have the power to refuse an application from companies undertaking the work. In this case Southern Gas Networks are currently working at the junction of Bellenden Road and Chadwick Road. The works are the final phase of gas main replacements in The Lane ward. The works on Bellenden Road commenced in September 2012 and consist of the following, a) laying approximately 350 metres of new 315mm gas mains b) abandoning 350 metres of old 12" gas mains c) 12 mains connections d) relay/renew 52 service connections to properties The works were suspended over the Christmas period to allow some respite to the business and residents and recommenced on February 18th to complete the final 12 service connections to the properties at the junction of Chadwick Road. Works are estimated to completes March 8th. Previous works at this location included the Thames Water Victorian Main Replacement works. Due to the logistics involved and the position of the gas and water mains, it was not possible to have both gas and water working simultaneously. I can assure you that we do scrutinise the these works regularly and if you have any further concerns regarding these works please contact Ian Law, our street works manager, who copied into this e-mail Regards -
