Is it great for cyclists? as the intention is for two way traffic they still have to use the same road now with less space. Also there will be a greater number of junctions unlike free flowing traffic all round as now. Pedestrians can and always have been able to walk in safety, and there is no problem accessing the existing green spaces. Why can common sense not prevail over political agenda. Ill thought out 20mph on all roads for instance As has been pointed out it is a tried and tested route.Perhaps it is the thought of free money that has clouded Southwark thought pattern in this. Please leave as is No benefit at all. Please leave alone/ As as a local resident I endorse all of what is written above. I use this every day and there is no problem whatsoever. This knowledge is from when it actually went in 1989. How will it better for people walking there? I do wish that you would concentrate on ED matters and not other local matters that you have no representation for. If you wish to comment use a separate forum name that does not imply political imput. If cyclists actually showed a little common sense using this system there is no problem. Out of interest just how many accidents have there been on this system since 1989 to the present. I have watched them use this system on a daily basis and whilst most are sensible there are those that should not be let loose on a pavement let alone a road. It is interesting to note that since "Bellenden Village" appeared it is all change perhaps people should recognise that this is Inner London not the shires and things move at a different pace if something is working why change it. If you actually stood and watched the traffic you would see that there is no problem and the road layout is well designed. Anything above 20mph is a rare happening along Bellenden Road. As Southwark has asked for email consultation the result is a forgone conclusion in my opinion as they will have no idea who the people commenting actually are. Decision by mass media not local requirement. I am sure that there are many other road projects that are more urgently required than this. I hope they do not change for the sake of change. You are about to be horrified. Foxtons coming to Rye Lane
richard tudor replied to Louisa's topic in The Lounge
After living in the area all my life you are right, I dont know the buildings that well. Having used the station for over 30 years on a daily basis I do admit I might have missed seeing them in their block glory I find them depressing, creating a dark dank environment with mess. I actually thought that these buildings would be removed to create a clean, friendly open space to approach the station. However I do find that they offer a wonder display of light to enhance the artistic balls of hair that tumble in a glorious display of dance in partnership with the other piles of mess. That is why perhaps I have never looked up trying not to step in anything. Still lets live in the past and keep the area as is. If you want to keep the buildings above Khans fine. Perhaps if you looked down instead of up you might have a different perspective around the station. It does appear that the chance to make something of the area will be missed. -

So this means we could still end up with the same mess as now in Station Arcade? -
Stabbing at Kingsdale School

At 69 I cannot remember people getting knifed at school or even outside school. Perhaps I was lucky going to the old William Penn. Even growing up in "Sarf London" knifings were very rare. However that has changed. -

Does that mean we are stuck with those ugly block buildings facing the station. This refers to the station arcade entrance to the station. -
Perhaps the City of London should start converting offices into artist studios as we would not like to see they had not spread their wings into other cultural and creative options and gone bust. 800 individual business down to 50, perhaps it was looked at seen as creative hype. A long term viable plan is what is required not one as now based on a now creative bubble.

Why did these developers not take a look at the railway square development? They certainly seem to know what they are doing but would it have produced to many problems from all and not worth the hassle. -

First look at proposed new Station Square in Peckham

Most of the pavements abutting are impassable during working hours. If you are going to do something worthwhile do it, this has been the problem for a very long time, Dont do this or that because it will upset . Opportunity missed. If you factor in the Holly Grove Park you could work wonders. -

This whole exercise will result in a mish mash without any defined long term plan for the future. Still those campaigning will no doubt have moved on to the next hotspot or moved to the next family home with the kids. -

At least when they demolish all those ugly concrete buildings you will be able to see your attacker coming across the open courtyard -
I did not vote for labour, however I would expect to be consulted if such changes are made. Unfortunately most of Southwark residents have a living to make and many changes are raised by the few who have the ear of Cllrs with similar views and the time to push their personnel agendas. It has always been the same. To get most of these through all you need is a yellow note on an out off the way lamp post or a notice in a local paper nobody reads.

Your right. Will leave my wicked ways with you to worry about and be off to give myself a good thrashing with a wet lettuce leave. As regards to Holland I have been married to a Dutch National for the last 45 years and know the country very well. Dutch cities, towns and villages have always been people friendly. They have just improved what was always there over a long period of time, as you point out, the 70's. Not this instant let's save the world in our tea break. Again Holland is not London

Holland and Denmark are completely different animals to London. Their infrastructure is different and most cities have a cycle system that has developed over decades going back to the war when a lot was rebuilt. It just shows you live in a dream world.
