  1. Pretty sure they don't do hair too! Have PM'd you, but their website is www.prestigebuild.org
  2. Know this could be a controversial viewpoint, but I haven't signed the petition, don't plan to & aren't going to looking to get my children privately vaccinated. The evidence base which was used to plan the introduction of the Meningitis B vaccine shows the peak age for infection is 5mths and the 2nd peak as teenagers is growing smaller (?some relationship with them having had the MenC/hib imms as infants). There are just over 1500 cases of MenB annually with 10% mortality (http://www.meningitis.org/menb-vaccine & http://www.meningitis.org/facts), with babies (the most high risk category) being imm'd would expect to see a v dramatic drop in these over the next couple of years. Rates of meningitis have fallen dramatically in the last 20yrs, something I was very aware of in my time in Paeds ED where in 10yrs I saw less than a handful of cases as terrible & with as sad an outcome. While this case is devastatingly tragic, I have huge concerns about putting pressure on our over stretched resources by public pressure via social media rather than strong evidence base proving efficacy.
  3. Just coming to the end of a side return ext with Prestige - not the cheapest quote, but v v statisfied by their thoroughness & attention to detail plus feel (compared to other's experiences) we had good communication throughout.
  4. Each of the kids has been given a small legacy in my grandfather's will. The solicitors acting as executors have sent a cheque for each child, and while we could send them back get the sum made out to me & pay it into their isa/trust accounts, I'm wondering if it would be nice for them to have a savings account each/have something more tangible that they could be involved in paying into. Anyone got any ideas of which to go for/experience of kids saving accounts? I recall lots being advertised when I was a kid, but nothing seems to be advertised anymore.
  5. Bugglet (now a strapping 5yr old 😳) has a book charactor dress-up day at school next week & wants to go as Sophie from the BFG (our current bedtime reading). Does anyone have a long sleeved full length nightie? Ideally plain white, will consider anything sized from 4-6yrs. Thanks in advance chaps x
  6. My daughter has just started in the 5-6yo class & loves it - she had to miss this w/e's due to a prior arrangement & shewas angling to be driven down from Suffolk for the class!!

Looks lovely, but for a full term/heavier baby - preemies/smaller babies need more support as they don't have the weight/size to keep them in the right position. I used the close with my (full term but) tiny daughter once she was 5lbs and remember finding positioning her correctly really difficult initially.

  9. Blimey Monniemae don't hold back on what you think you know 😳 Did make it clear that I didn't marry a Neanderthal, and part of the reasoning behind me starting the thread was my surprise at this opinion given he is otherwise open minded. Think the thread idea is fab Saffron & am glad to hear I'm not the only family roomer with a partner prone to crazy moments!! Mr Bimum - hope that Bimum was as exasperated by you as I was with Mr Buggie! Anyhow, the weather now seems to be colluding with him to make any park trips impossible!!

V interesting & reassuring to know that neither Mr Buggie is hugely unusual to have expressed this, and I've not been daft to find it unreasonable, although the scooter hasn't been taken out (it seems we're moving into the hand-me-down (red) balance bike!! 🙄)
  12. Needing to look into this myself - anyone above able to let me know who they used/if they'd recommend them? Thanks x
  13. Call the number on the back - a lovely person did this last wk when I dropped my travel card/debit card holder the other day - bank took her contact number & then called to let me know & passed on her number for me to call her/arrange collection. Unfortunately I'd already cancelled the card, but was great to get my wallet/driving licence back & know I'd dropped it rather than it being stolen/pickpocketed.
  14. tbf this doesn't show him in a great light... He's hugely involved with the kids and I wouldn't have married him let alone had kids with him if he had such fixed gender rules, but he is especially twitchy about pink! (Was daughter's choice of colour when we bought it!).
  15. Lighthearted Xmas debate time!! So, I'm busy tomorrow (joy of deadlines 😣) & my husband is talking about taking the kids to the park, I suggested that 2yo son might be happier on his big sisters scooter than his own one as he's out grown the round handle/I've seen him using "proper" scooters well. Husband is mortified at idea of taking him to the park with a pink scooter & says no Dad would be happy to do this unless appeasing his partner... My eyebrows are hovering about a foot above my head at the mo! Which of us is being unreasonable?!
  16. Few times I've been I've had fab service at Glamourous Nails on Grove Vale - good to book in advance (can imagine this wk is going to be pretty busy to walk-in) & always need to remind myself their cash only!
  17. Have been to party that Amigos magic did & thought he was fab & we then used Tricky Toby for my daughter's birthday and he was v good too (dealt with my daughter being bit overcome & really shy v well).
  18. Would suggest looking at Open Rent - doesn't specifically deal with short rents, but you do deal directly with the landlords & overheads on the site are so low, they may be more aminable to short/6m rent. We found a local flat for while we have work done on the house & ended up taking out a 6m contract but even those were rare & we have needed nearly all the 6m's), but found it all much less stressful than dealing with estate agents.
  19. ERIC website is an amazing resource (have great fridge magnet about poo from them which I'm going to sneak onto our fridge at somepoint!). Plus, Google "Poo goes to Pooland" it's a pdf or even available on YouTube and is a v simple story about why poo needs to go in the toilet (so that it can be reunited with its friends & families!) was written by a psychologist & is v clever at acknowledging fears while giving a rationale easily understood by a child (& not too far from the truth!).
  20. Belle - I know, did dip in & out of it but had just got back from a big HV conference where I was on Twitter so much was bit twitter'd out(maybe should pm you my Twitter handle!).
  21. Looks really interesting (esp being a HV) will pop,it on my Xmas wish list!!
  22. There's a bumps & babes coffee morning on a Wednesday morning at The Dish & the Spoon in Nunhead - unsure what time it starts though.
  23. Your health visitor should also do an antenatal visit in the final trimester - much easier to give appropriate & useful info/get to know you before the baby arrives and the tiredness/stress of being brand new parents that occurs by the new birth visit
