Splash park would be good but only if not at the cost of existing space that's used for play all year round. Maybe if the campaign to reopen Peckham Lido wasn't a success, the space there could be snared for it - Belvedere Splash Park is fab, but then opposite is a large playground/sports ground so play space doesn't seem lost.

Worth checking with Effra Childrens centre - pretty sure they run one at Brockwell Park x

Athenlay Road Speedbump / traffic calming help/petition
buggie replied to lucyannejames's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unsure pinch points would be a viable option on Athenlay given all the junctions & hill making sight lines difficult, plus greatly reduced parking spaces. I see cars frequently speed down Ivydale unaffected by the pinch points and with the road not being a bus route/having a typically lighter flow of traffic & them not being full width bumps, maybe those would be a better option. -

Saw this this week - v unfortunate, but guessing there'll be a big push for them to be 3 form next year. Would be nice to get clearer explanation on what the problems are as would have thought 18mths would be plenty of time 😔 -
Adventure days out for a family
buggie replied to Bellenden Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Saw videos on Facebook the other day of friends who'd taken their 5yr & 8yr indoor sky diving (the adults had a go too) and it looked fab - def in my list of future activities 😃 -
Athenlay Road Speedbump / traffic calming help/petition
buggie replied to lucyannejames's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm on Homeleigh Rd & would be happy sign a petition for measures to reduce the speed of cars - sight lines to cross are fine for cars obeying the speed limit, but it scares me how quickly they appear when speeding. Would guess that Renata Hamvas may be able to point is in the right direction but don't think any of our councillors post on here. -

Ivydale isn't due to be expanding until the academic year 2016/17 (?the year after next academic year wise). Having a child at pre-sch/going into reception this year & going past the building site twice a day & seeing thee speed their going, I can't see why they won't make that target. -

Fab - although I think it's only the last one I can pass on professionally! -
Wondering if anyone/their teenage children has a Casio FX83 or FX85 calculator I could borrow for an exam next Thursday?! Is v annoying as there'll only be 2 maths questions, and I'm pretty sure I'll be ok, but want to have one in case of brain freeze & the uni is v v strict about what calculator they allow in 😳 I'm in Nunhead, but happy to pop over to ED/nearby to collect. Thanks in advance!

Primary School Admissions Sept 2015 NEWS
buggie replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hey Otta - Unsure they would for so few & don't know how likely it is that they'd end up at same school/try to get into another villages school. ... Anyhoo, back to local schools! -
Primary School Admissions Sept 2015 NEWS
buggie replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Is interesting reading this alongside a thread on the FB page of where I'm from up in Suffolk. There 6 children haven't been able to get into the only primary school in the village leaving them with journeys of 3 miles + with an hourly bus into the local town. Makes tales of 1.5 mile journeys & 2 (regular running) buses to get to school in a new light. -
Have used it a couple of times with my children & am similarly full of praise for it - for minor/acute illness is a fab and saves so much time especially with them running to time! Would take huge pressure off A&E if more people used their GP to access it.

Outcome of primary school allocation

I got onto the site & found out by 5.10 - good news for us, keeping fingers crossed for everyone else x -
Sounds like you want the Center Parcs thread!

We were at Elvden last week too (missed opportunity for EDF meet up Mellors!!) Mon to Fri, & thought we'd do the opposite & hang round on the Fri, We got car packed & out to the car park and hit the pool first thing expecting it to be quieter but was busiest I'd seen it - guess it works better on Saturday's as it's the bigger change over day and if you can stick round until the afternoon. Had a fab time though, and echo everyone's advice to book activities in advance, plus even onsite, use your phone app/own internet access as their booking points are really clunky & slow. We booked our 4yr old onto the Pirates & Princesses party & was really impressed with it - she made a hairband, treasure map, got her face painted, and even drew her favourite thing to put as a message in a bottle, plus we got to go in & be told what they'd done & see them perform a song they'd learnt - v cute!

Oimissus - 😀 definitely not thinking of them in those terms, more not wanting the kerfuffle of buying/fitting/sussing out moving between them if there's a strong chance that a bit more patience will get the same result, there's lots of stuff online that does make stabilisers out as something to be avoided/can delay independent peddling, I just wanted to find out what parents experiences were in real life.

Thanks for all replies, Bugglet loved (& think still would use) her balance bike, but got a pedal bike at Christmas (at her insistence) and we've taken her out on it a few times but even with a handle there's ++ wobbling/it's tricky to keep up & do with mini-bugglet in tow. This week we've given stabilisers a go while at Center Parcs & she's doing well, but think this is more because she's been in the bike several times a day & by us being on bikes too there's been a lot of role modelling. Other half was sure this meant stabilisers should be bought for her pedal bike quick smart, but we've now negotiated to do a bit more with the balance bike & hire bikes at Dulwich Park with both her bikes with us & see how she goes.

Indeed landsberger, however in our case we're less than 350m from the school (our closest & under LEA control) & battling against over half the places being taken by siblings (especially after a bulge class 2yrs ago). Our road has been comfortably in catchment previous years, but it's been shrinking every year so isn't a given 😳

Looking for a children's party entertainer
buggie replied to alimc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I took my daughter to a birthday party with Amigo's magic appearing the other week & was really impressed with him and how well he held the attentions of the 3-4yr olds present. Am definitely considering booking him for my daughter's next birthday party. -
Potential disruption at London Bridge station

I expect she was thinking of East Dulwich > at the time. Doubt it, would guess that nannies in ED are probably small fry compared to the amount of parents having to collect kids from nurseries/child minders - those with nannies probably aren't so worried as at least the kids are home/nanny can do bath time & bed if required. -
Completed this the other day. Found it cathartic to have a whinge (a Month away from hearing if DD will get a place at our local, sch or if the catchments shrunk to a silly level!).

My CM does full day for my 16m old & wraparound for my 4.5yr preschooler (who does 9-12 at preschool). I have to pay full day rate for my daughter (?60 per day inc lunch & dinner), which is fair enough as the CM can't look after another child in the 3hrs she's not there. Plus with negotiated holidays, I get some cover for school holidays - probably helped by me being in a training/student position at the mo so have some annual leave matching sch hols. Am sure most CM's would rather a sibling pair were together than separated, but guess it would depend on their capacity/existing kids.
