  2. You can go online to book an appointment with minimum effort and little time spent. You fill in all the usual details and then are prompted to write your ailment, etc. You then get a message back saying you have an appointment later that day or the following day. It may not work for all patients all the time but in this case, and in others, I have found it easy and worthwhile (so saying it is ridiculous for one patient doesn't paint the whole picture, however irksome that is for the person for whom it failed).
  3. I got an email and booked in but not at the same site as the other two jabs (which was the T J Centre).

  6. Hike, instead of "rise" or "increase"
  7. https://green-energy-efficient-homes.com/waste-electricity.html Even with the PC itself turned off, the combined power draw of a cable or DSL modem, a wireless router, and a computer printer sitting idle and waiting for work to do, can exceed 50 watts (about the same draw as one moderately bright incandescent bulb or 4 compact fluorescent bulbs). That might not sound like much but that 50 watts when running continuously through the year works out to 50 x 24 x 365 watt hours, or 438,000 watt hours (438 kilowatt hours). That costs roughly $44 a year ? to keep your computer equipment running 168 hours a week, when you probably only need it running for 10 or 20 hours a week at most.
  8. You'd think that, but perhaps some don't know the best way to reduce energy use. It may sound silly, but how many know, for example, how much energy a charging phone/laptop or TV set on standby uses, or how much could be saved by turning the radiators down from 5 to 4, etc.? Fuel price increases may push people to find out and economise.
  9. Back on topic, without the B word, what will YOU do as regards your heating and lighting needs this winter given the current circumstances? (Burning pro- and anti-Brexit documents, perhaps....?)
  10. https://www.moneysupermarket.com/gas-and-electricity/energy-saving-tips/ - some tips (but not including "put a jumper on"!)
  11. SpringTime - I agree with the 23C+ preferences for some people - so wasteful and damaging. Perhaps this episode will kickstart a wave of common sense, if not frugality, which would benefit the planet and people's pockets?
  12. I think it is valid advice for all people to be aware of hazards or potential hazards, whether it be connected to the weather, food, other people. Sometimes I think those who reflexively shout about victim blaming are more concerned with their creds and an idea than other living human beings.
  13. Maybe you are right if you say that the silver lining could be that emissions are fewer, despite the hardships some will face.
  14. It looks like many of the smaller fuel firms will go belly up, and maybe sooner than later. What, then will you do in terms of dealing with price rises? Shop around, use less power, or both? (I changed my tariff to lock me in till mid '22. I will be switching off lights/standbys and generally using less power as a result. Great for the planet?!
  15. JD - putting this on Twitter as a mild-mannered query may get more attention, more quickly than dealing with a branch manager.
  16. Has anyone had one yet? If so, from which provider - surgery, hospital, vaccination centre? Thanks much

  18. Nothing yet from DMC, weeks after some people at other surgeries have got their jabs. Walk ins at bigger branches of Boots and Sainsbury's, etc. may be an option or the Day Lewis on F H Road, where I saw three other people get theirs as walk ins when I was there.

  20. Plus bike storage in front of the house requires planning permission. .... Is this still the case? If so, plenty of householders have either gone through this channel or haven't because I see a fair few overly-tall-for-a-bike shelters in front gardens/yards. I can understand why bike owners need to feel their property is safe and secure but also know that those shelters are not thief-proof.
  21. Re road closures for dining: Generally a good idea, but no always good for those with disabilities because pavement area is shrunk and keen-on-profit restaurateurs sometimes cram more seats in where they are not supposed to be.
  22. Reaching out..on a journey...the "X community" (just say "X people", or better still, "some X people")...my truth - all reflexively used by all and sundry and handed down like last year's fashions by America's academic, media and entertainment industries to us over here.
  23. Come see, go eat - missing out the & is affected and imported. It is great in N America but sounds slavish and wannabe here. (Maybe wannabe is annoying also?)
  24. If you inform the police they may be able to nab them somewhere along the line, and you'd be at least helping stop them from actually ripping someone off, which could have happened to you. Please do report it.
  25. Bad experience but thanks for sharing. 👍 Please report to 101 and local Goose Green police. They have a Twitter account.
