Do we have a Defibrillator in East Dulwich?
Nigello replied to monica's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks, Monica -
I cannot find anywhere selling poppies - nothing at the library, no cafes in Dulwich Village, nor the post office there. Anyone else experienced this?

6 months, 1 week is what the government ministers said on Today, etc. a few weeks ago.

Caustic? Check a dictionary, please! Sheesh I did offer advice - DIY, use your accumulated knowledge to forward your interests and do some good - but you saw it as a slight. 🤷♂️ -

Heartblock - you were very interested in this so why don't you start a thread and get folk to put in their (checked) locations? It is so easy to say "why don't we" and then hope someone else will pick up on one's brilliant idea and do the slog! This could be your way to help someone for very little initial time invested. (I am not that invested to do it myself and never suggested it in the first place.) -
Do you really think that is all they do? Do you not realise that every TV-facing high-up has many other delegates who do the real work? Obviously not.

Would it not be best for them to be placed in properties that are likely to be open the longest hours, such as CoOp, EDT, M and S, the small Sainsbury's? Those places are also pretty corporate (EDT is part of a small chain, no?) and would have someone who would, I hope, be across the niceties such as upkeep and training, liabilities, etc. -
limited tools - ha, that could be read in a way it wasn't meant here!

CANCELLED-Community Clean- Homestall Road and Peckham Rye Park
Nigello replied to rachp's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think it could be just a small number who habitually litter and make a god-awful mess. I see people of all types using bins yet very few people dropping. Does it come from cars? (I have seen some people take out nappies and litter from cars and dump it in the gutter. One who did this got very sharp shrift and took it back!) -

They're a good idea, Annie5, but please adopt a DIY attitude if you are keen to help. Just picking up the odd can or bottle and putting it in a recycling bin yourself whilst on your daily walk or errands can make a big difference. I often pick up 7 or 8 items on a typical morning walk, mainly cans and plastic bottles (Lucozade and various lager brands feature most). -
I totally agree with Rahx3 - the closer your cheeks and jowls are to others' the more you should do to be a good neighbour. If you live in the wilderness, whoop it up and light fires every night, but don't do anything approaching that when you live in a densely populated city. As for fireworks, I would not allow them to be sold unless to licensed operators which is a complete turnaround from my previous take.

Annoying words that have cropped up in our language

Ms does not necessarily denote marital status. Some married women use it with a surname that maybe is their married name but not necessarily. -

Agreed - they were brought in hastily (though a fair-minded person can place that in context) and were therefore not well thought through. Part-time restrictions coupled with other measures (such as pressuring schools to do much more to get staff and - more problematic - kids' parents to not drive there) would be more welcome.

Build a guided bus system, or the new kind of tramlines that are "glued" down and so less expensive, or trolleybuses to fill the gap provided by the rolling back on teh Bakerloo extension. Money would be saved but there wouldn't be any investment in housing, etc. that often goes alongside Tube expansion.

Elsie, Tintagel and Derwent do not have schools on them. Melbourne has a school entrance on part of it, not the full length. Heber has no restrictons (DYLs and zigzags aside) and Goodrich is likewise free of any intervention despite schools being right on those roads. I don't know how much the powers taht be use such location specifics in their plans for LTNs.

Walking in and around DV and along E D Grove I again remarked that school holidays make for MUCH quieter roads, even after the times usually related to dropping kids off and picking them up. Only one school replied to my queries over their respective approach to and views on how staff and pupils get to work. If the council did more to get them to reduce the number of car trips made during term time a decent amount of congestion and pollution would be prevented.

I agree with malumbu - so many ill informed people only have themselves to blame, given the big coverage on all media and by TfL etc. TfL brought it in during half-term (for many) so it is likely to act as a kind of soft landing, which is sensible. Money has to be spent to publicise such actions, of course, but only up to a point.

Watch BBC4 while you can - it is being cancelled and its output blended into BBC2, etc. (It does have a lot of repeats, I know, but they are of quality and in-depth programmes.) BBC3, once cast into the wilderness of the internet, is now back on as a standard TV channel so 4 has to go. As for the new show, not my cuppa tea and I think the genre is starting to show its age on all channels and with all subjects. Something else will come along to replace it eventually. Big Brother and Sylvana Waters were the early examples of reality, all the way back into the late nineties for the latter so I can't see this type of show lasting much longer than '25.

Dogs are great and loveable but don't belong in a pub or restaurant, unless they're a guide dog. Leave them at home and allow those who don't like them, have allergies or fears around them, to enjoy a neutral space freely. Bring them back a doggy bag!
