  1. Thanks - does litter placed in Southwark litter bins get sorted, even minimally (eg. glass and metal fished out for recycling) or is it all dumped or incinerated?

  4. Kids are different nowadays - more likely to cycle and less likely to have money to splash out on Tube fares, which are at least twice as expensive as bus fares. If your grandson is a cyclist and/or thrifty, then a place in Zone 2 like Camberwell would be ideal. If his work is, say, in West London, then this is not a good option (unless he is a committed cyclist).
  5. Yes, please show your sources. That way everybody will have facts and not suppositions, rumours, etc. Thanks
  6. Camberwell gets the thumbs up from young (twenties) people I know of via family and work. It is not that far from Waterloo or Oval for transport, even Denmark Hill is walkable and there are buses galore.
  7. https://lavender-hill.uk/2021/04/22/compulsory-water-meters-are-coming-to-clapham-common-northside/ - it could well mean that water meters are to be installed but please confirm with Thames Water.
  8. The former newsagent opposite A J Farmer's (more or less, next to the small watch repair shop) on the Lane is to be a barbershop, so all the best to this new venture.
  9. Re EVs - I have heard say that putting plugs on kerbs is a possibility, running them from the underground cables and/or lampposts.

So, does that mean it doesn't exist? Why post if you don't want to intimate that it is not a cause for concern, or maybe even suggest I am making it up. It does, I see it at least twice a week and feel very concerned for the young, unprotected passengers (more so than the reckless riders). > > I have never seen this happen.
  11. I know of someone who went to King's last weekend and was seen as a walk-in. Apparently it was shut for lunch, or a break at lesat, but I can't recall between what times.
  12. Where are you in, IlonaM? They say raptors can be seen over Peckham Rye and on Dawson's Hill but I have yet to see one. (A jay did pop in to my garden yesterday, though.)

  15. Seems like presuming allows them to get away with disturbing people. Ring up and complain and get them to say in writing they have permission.
  16. The tree sellers at the Plough were setting up on Wednesday morning.
  17. I agree that bigger bins or at least a doubling would be useful. And, sounds trite but isn't - if you put litter in a bin, push it down or crush it before you put it in to help. That will help reduce overflowing.
  18. Another young mother with no helmet, no bell but with child as pillion passenger, racing on an e-scooter down the sloping pavement to school. Such a moron; poor kid could be maimed or killed should his "mother" get involved in an accident. Shame on her and others who think it couldn't happen to them.
  19. Oh, that helps a great deal. So, they are even heavier when they plough into you and a nice sticker that tells people to wear helmets is bound to be adhered to! You see pillion passengers, including kids, on them all over the place, often on the way to school, believe it or not. If posh mummies and daddies insist on riding on the pavement on their thick-tired e-bikes, then what hope for e-scooter riders?
  20. Are you presuming too much? Maybe they think that everyone will assume they have permission when they really don't. I would ring up Conway HQ and ask for a manager's email address, complain and CC your MP and councillor's email. Even if it is correct that they have the council's permission I think your MP would be keen on knowing that this goes on.
  21. I saw a notice pinned to a post near to the Picture Gallery entrance to the park, saying that a bay for e-scooters was to be placed very near to the bus stop there. Not impressed, given the tools that ride them (and often give rides to others) on pavements, near dogs and kids, etc. Maybe the good folk of Dulwich will be more sensible..?
  22. Bulb was a-ok with its ukele/whistle-based advertising and quirky ads at the Picturehouse but failed miserably when (failing to) install my smart meter properly. I jumped ship to Eon which still has fully green electricity and is big enough to weather storms. Was easier to communicate with Eon than Bulb which buried its head and refused to switch my gas meter to one that works properly.
  23. I urge people to use the online approach. You can fill it in and you will get a phone call back from a medic, usually a doctor in my case. Be very specific and concise to help them digest it all. I think it helps them to have it written down - symptoms, times, background conditions. I heard the head of the NHS on Today (there was another woman so perhaps it was actually her) who said that "upstream" concerns, like the general health of the population, need to be addressed if we want a better functioning NHS. I don't disagree. Some folk have bad luck in terms of what they inherit from their father and mother (and their parents, going all the way back) and others don't even know they have bad lukc till it is too late, so losing weight, not smoking, being on the ball when it comes to STI hazards, sleeping well, etc. etc. are all within most of our remits.
  24. Buses are very busy at certain times, much less busy at others. How could TfL recognise this and work around it? Smaller vehicles for certain routes at certain times? Routes that overlap at certain points being reduced or withdrawn? Work with what you've got!
