  1. Ok, you don;t like him, we get it. But if you have two hours notice and you don't have a magic wand or extra roadspace waht do you suggest is done? This is about an unexpected event at a hitherto unknown location. Can a council have a plan for every location? I doubt it. Sometimes, it is just bad luck.
  2. He is saying it is to do with another body, not the council - you can call it blaming if you are really not a fan of his for other reasons but another person who has no involvement with the LTN etc. would read it as someone spelling out a fact rather than deflecting. The council comes in for a lot of flack, sometimes unwarranted, so if it is pretty rational for him to say "not me". I think any councillor would do this.
  3. If it is emergency work, the utilities can do as they please but need to inform the council soonest: https://www.gov.uk/street-works-licence-england-scotland-wales I have no idea of the circumstances that are linked to today's situation.
  4. Beulah - only cyclists doing wrong things are public enemy. It is ok for kids to be on pavements, so no problem there, but you do not have discretion to alter the law as you see fit. I hope you don't ever cause an accident - the guilt of that would seriously damage you, but not as much as it would any pavement-strolling innocent.
  5. If it?s emergency works maybe there?s no way the council can intervene. I?m not sure so if someone knows the rules please tell us so we know the facts.
  6. I also don?t ever see most cyclists stopping at lights, unless at big junctions where the presence of fellow cyclists also perhaps stops them from going through reds. Accidents happen so quickly and if you always stop and wait you will very likely never get into a junction-related accident. It stands to reason that if you think ?well, I?ve always done this so it has to be ok this time? you?ll get caught out sooner or later.
  7. The problem with saying ?as long as it?s sensible? is that who is defining it? Laws are clear and applicable to all and have been drawn up after research and other inputs. My sensible may be different from anyone else?s. Best to follow the rules, which stacks of nice Village types don?t do when they belt along the pavement from the Dog to the park when the roads are clear and have cycle-accommodating markings in parts. It?s just selfishness and stems from folk think they?re being ?sensible? and responsible.
  8. Psyllium husks - you can get them generically from Holland and Barrett - are good for the motions! You stir a spoonful or two in water, drink it, and follow that with another glass of water.

Welcome to East Dulwich, home of cute self-referential banners, hygge paraphernalia, kozy coffee shops and rank selfishness!
  10. Same in Dulwich Village, where money, time and effort has been spent on the *** (daren't say it) but cyclists still barrel through the lights - even the special, cycle-shaped ones - and cycle on the pavement from the Dog to the park, nearly always with requisite dog on lead or child in bucket seat, bobbing along, defying death in jaunty manner. I don't make a habit of walking in bus lanes or cycle lanes so please don't think you can "just cycle safely because I am a responsible person" on footpaths. It is selfish and not necessary.
  11. Agreed - pedestrians and wheelchair/mobility vehicle users only at all times.
  12. I see that Walworth Road, which is similar to Rye Lane in terms of businesses and footfall, is very clean. There?s been an effort, I think, to scrub it up and keep it like that (eg. hardly any litter; shop shutters scrubbed clean). How come this is not the case on LL and Rye Lane, where many businesses pay scant attention to how their properties look once they?ve shut up shop? Was there a special campaign by the council to concentrate on Walworth Road? If so, could the same be done for grot spots nearer to where EDF readers live and work? Too many businesses (Lloyd?s in N X Road, the pharmacy at the GG roundabout do nothing to clean up their act and ought to be helped/persuaded/compelled to do so.) Over to you, Cllr.
  13. Adults of a certain ilk thinkg that because they are eitehr carrying tot (precariously but cutely) or shepherding them, they can ride on pavements, be it at night, day, when it's busy with lots of pedestrians or where it's a particulaly narrow stretch. It is called entitlement, selfishness or hubris, epithets they'd likely chuck readily and with a certain amount of venom at politicians, etc. whose own disregard for the rules somehow is different from theirs.
  14. How about buying a tree that is 5'6 next year OR buy a saw to go with a 6' + tree?
  15. I didn?t excuse them. Read what I said and tell me it doesn?t criticise the abuser. ?The person was abusive and should not have behaved like this,? 🤷‍♂️
  16. Alexthecamel I am sorry that I don't meet your requirments vis-a-vis how I should think and respond to a public post on a public forum in a democratic country. Also, as I stated explicitly in my post, I agreed that the abuser was wrong and should not have behaved like that. and that I could hold this view but also note that 17 years old is not common parlance for a child. Yet you decided to ignore that and demand that I Think Like You. Please be more adult (16+) and enjoy the freedom that comes with having your own thoughts, some of which may be contradictory but do not necessarily have to cancel each other out. I also pointed out that the person may have been neuro divergent yet you chose not to acknowledge that possibility (even though the OP did herself) and not give me credit for looking for a reason that may have helped the mother of the young adult come to terms with the name calling.
  17. The REAL problem, ie. one that makes much, much more of an impact, is people buying stuff that they don't need, wasting food, using cars or taxis when really their own two feet could do a much cleaner job of it, having lots of kids, etc. etc. but it is MUCH easier and satisfying to ask a few dozen (at the very most) wood burners in and around a section of SE22 to not light a (pretty likely kiln-dried wood fuelled) fire in their already EU-compliant burners for an hour or three. So, if you are THAT keen on not having pollution, think very, very seriously about pledging to not waste, not drive as much, not have your three planned children and make do with two or one, because those choices will pay off much, much, much better dividends. AND NO FRANCO MANCA PIZZA FOR YOU, FOREVER!
  18. To be consistent don?t buy pizza from places thar use wood-burning ovens.
  19. Agreed mainly, but 17 is really not a child. 17 year olds can drive, go to war, etc. etc. (I can hold this fact and opinion and also agree that the person was abusive and should not have behaved like that so please, no online haranguing because it is not warranted.) Also, the person may well be neurologically diverse and not act in the same way as other adults. If this is the case then my sympathy is mainly with them because they have a way harder time of it than most other people and may well not know that what they said is "cruel". But we don't know (though you did allude to the possibility).
  20. I think you are too kind in your estimation of some constituents, Renata. Some simply CBA to do the right thing and just dump them, thereby blocking pavements and parking slots. Better by far for the council to do daily rounds with a portable shredder or for there to be drop offs - why not use The Plough, etc. or other sites that sold the damned things as a mulching site? The current situation isn't tenable, but thanks for the information anywya.
  21. Good job (as in well done but for middle America) - makes me cringe and annoyed at the same time.
  22. There are piles of four or five in two places along Goodrich, taking up parking spaces. Tons more in Dulwich Village and peppered about SE21. Not impressed with either those who are dumping them or the council for not collecting the ones that are "legal" size.
  23. Didn;t the EU insist that VAT be applied to gas and electricity?
  24. They are endemic so just take care. We cannot rely on the police (remember them?) to stop those breaking the law on e-scooters. Hard Paddington stares and brisk tsk-tsks are all we have in our arsenal...
  25. I see scores of abandoned trees, blocking pavements and parking spaces, and no evidence of collection, either by the standard refuse vans or the ones that used to patrol the streets looking for the trees. I have complained online about ones near to me but they are everywhere. If you have a collection of trees on your pavement or in your road, please do complain under fly tipping on the website. If they get a lot they may finally understand what is (not) going on! https://www.southwark.gov.uk/street-care/fly-tipping
