Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Jellybeanz replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dear James, The hospitals are at breaking point. Why was and is North Cross Road Saturday market still allowed to open without further restrictions (people wearing masks to serve and buy food), distancing signs to enforce and remind about social distancing, and basically everyone keeping apart where possible and wearing masks even tho outside. Seeing a busy market may be nice and normal but it carries risk. Thanks -

Instil how dangerous Covid is (people don't get it until they have it or know someone who ends up in ITU or dies). Market should be very carefully organised if allowed to go ahead.

I know market traders need to earn a living but it should have been better policed in terms of people distancing and not gathering together. People in this area just don't seem to be taking Covid seriously enough.

Feedback on Mother Goose nursery on Upland Rd
Jellybeanz replied to philosophie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My youngest son attended Mother Goose and it was lovely. Home from home, good freshly cooked food. Sometimes a little chaotic but hey so's my home sometimes! Nice big garden and they do loads of activities. Old and young mix which is another good thing, as they all learn from one another. Well run when my son attended, with occasional top management interference but that was minor all in all. Lovely caring staff, especially Rajes and Ramona. I would definitely recommend it. First Steps close to Mother Goose is also very good according to friends of mine. -

I looked at both channels this morning - CBBC is learning based programmes and BBC2 was over an hour of news, so not entirely sure this is as good as I had hoped! -

I think all primary schools are in need right now - perhaps those in East Dulwich are better off compared to those in some neighbouring areas, so worth contacting Oliver Goldsmiths and others in Peckham and other neighbouring areas, who I am sure are in dire need right now. -
Online learning in primary schools

Update: our primary now going to offer interactive lessons using Google classrooms twice a day from what I can gather. Live registration twice daily has worked well, very good for the kids to see each other albeit briefly. -
safest masks to protect ourselves against covid??
Jellybeanz replied to TwinkleToes's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Trusted PPE have a range of disposable and washable face masks. They also now stock rapid tests for antibodies if anyone is interested in those. People also need to remember distancing is key as is hand hygiene (easy to forget just as necessary when working from home). -

Going well so far - 45 members and growing! :) -
This is a great idea BUT they have a fundraiser going that has raised over ?50k called 'Buy a coffee for Kings' so you might want to focus on other smaller local good causes doing great work? Albrighton Community Centre Kingswood Estate LinkAge (formerly Help the Aged) Dulwich Helpline Westminster House Youth Club (based in Nunhead) All in desperate need of funds right now... I totally agree the NHS are amazing and should be supported but just wanted to flag there are already fundraisers that have raised huge amounts already for Kings.

We used Julian for some built in cupboard and shelving units in the living room and would highly recommend. Not cheap but nearly a decade on they look good as new so worth the investment!

What are the contact details please? Thanks. Neighbour puts a mound of bird food on the ground in their garden daily, so don't think it'll be a lasting solution but would love a temp reprieve over Christmas and not to see mice running around the kitchen and scratching/chewing behind our wardrobe (EEK).

I am very supportive of the Albrighton community centre fundraising BUT I do think we run the risk of jumping on one cause (especially with endorsement from Olivia Coleman and visit from Harriet Harman recently), so let's not forget other local fundraisers for food and other essentials, where people are really struggling owing to redundancies, being unable to work owing to covid etc. If you can, please make a donation to the Kingswood Estate foodbank either with physical donations or a few pounds: https://www.kingswoodestatetra.org/causes/ Many thanks

How many can i bubble with over Christmas Dinner?
Jellybeanz replied to roxie99's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We personally won't be visiting family and I think unless you're home alone I would really be very cautious and restrict who you see and try and see them outdoors if you can. Indoor settings have been found to be the highest risk, so I think we all need to exercise some common sense, especially now the end is hopefully in sight with the vaccines being gradually rolled out... -
Online learning in primary schools
Jellybeanz replied to swagstar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's true, the local authority advised primary schools against it. I felt and feel like you - i.e. that if private schools can offer zoom lessons and enable kids to keep up with schoolwork then why not state primaries? The whole thing is absurd. In France they had a central system whereby all children could log in and do their work. Why can't England be as organised?! Government shambles.
