Our car had its catalytic converter stolen at 8.30pm on a Saturday night from outside our house. Our young kids watched the whole thing. 4 Masked men, one with a metal bar. Used an angle grinder or similar. Like a movie. Horrifying. 999 didn't answer for 6 minutes. Neighbour had same experience trying to get through. The police rang me the next morning. No further action as no CCTV (which is why this area is now a big target apparently compared to some others). Our neighbour had their door kicked in on Wednesday. Same day as this bike theft. We are in a quiet road, terraced so rare to have burglaries. So brazen and upsetting. Police numbers being halved by Conservative governments since 2010 has led to this, along with cost of living crisis meaning everyone is poorer and sadly criminals seem to think everyone in ED is wealthy which is far from reality.

Building works on Ulverscroft Road
Jellybeanz replied to misterdulwich's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That sounds infuriating. I never understand the peeping of horns at antisocial hours. Totally inconsiderate, especially given we all live in close proximity in ED. -
Views on GPs 306 lordship vs Tessa Jowell centre
Jellybeanz replied to Ee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
306 definitely sounds much better than some locally. I took my son to TJ the other day for his polio booster and the receptionists were rude (stressed but no excuse) and some appointments had been moved to Lister so some patients arriving to find they were in the wrong place. Melbourne Grove as it was had its issues but TJ is atrocious. -
Views on GPs 306 lordship vs Tessa Jowell centre
Jellybeanz replied to Ee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
TJ is awful. Near impossible to get appointments, unhelpful receptionists, only phone appointments when you actually are offered an appointment. We moved to DMC which is as you say also awful. They also appear connected as I was offered an appointment at TJ when the appointments had gone at DMC. I know people happy with the Gardens and the surgery on Lordship Lane which someone above has recommended. Shameful what has become of our GP surgeries in the last few years. Underfunding coming to the fore and European GPs left in droves due to Brexit. -
Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Jellybeanz replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am very concerned about the number 40 and other key bus routes disappearing due to TFL cuts (thanks essentially to the Conservative government squeezing the budget and holding Mayor Khan to ransom). Is there anything we can do other than fill in the consultation and sign petitions (numerous seem to be doing the rounds)? Thanks for all you do in the area -
Years ago I asked for a key to help maintain the noticeboard on North Cross but was told only a couple of people have keys. One was the woman who runs Health Matters but she rarely seemed to keep them updated. A real shame it's now damaged as they can be very useful in showing what's on and local councillor details etc.

Building works on Ulverscroft Road
Jellybeanz replied to misterdulwich's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What a bizarre post.. why object to building work on just one road in Dulwich? As Sue says it's surely people repairing or improving their houses. Building noise is unfortunately something we all have to deal with as the cost of moving is so high in London. -
www.nimblearts.co.uk Wonderful holiday club for 4-11 yr olds - my sons have attended since they were very little and absolutely love it.. It's like a real life Blue Peter, with experienced teachers supervising and loads of fun. Different theme every day and they learn lots of skills and make new friends. There is even a bouncy castle, which they LOVE! Highly recommended. Plus they have early start and late finish for working parents.

In need of a Gas Enginner or Plumber ? Paul Harrison
Jellybeanz replied to Maisiemay's topic in Reviews
Can also recommend Paul - came very quickly when we needed help. Reasonably priced compared to some, all clear comms, helpful guy. -
You can do this at home and get it observed if necessary (for US and some other countries) - quite reasonable prices https://www.medicspot.co.uk/ Recommended by company travel agent

In ED they have undoubtedly caused more traffic and pollution on the main roads, which are jammed esp at peak times. Yes you can argue more people now walk or cycle but was that just a lockdown effect when many (myself included) could work from home as the office wasn't open and thus have more time as no longer commuting. Monitors are showing pollution has increased on main roads and as we know Lordship Lane and many other well used roads, especially A roads like the south circular, have residents who deserve consideration too, as they will be breathing in more heavily polluted air. We used to live near the junction of Lordship Lane and Dulwich Common and my husband had heart problems as a result of breathing polluted air. The health issues disappeared when we moved on to a side road. I think we all need to be more understanding towards the other side here and those who have "won" on having LTN road closures made permanent need to check themselves (why are you in favour? is it personal gain as you live on a road that has been closed to vehicles or is it because you think the wider population has benefited?) and look at what those against or in favour (depending on your side) are saying. Many businesses have been badly affected by LTNs. Callow Locksmiths for example have moved from Melbourne Grove to Lordship Lane as they weren't getting the passing trade. Yes the kids at Charter East benefit from walking down a safer road but once they have walked a few minutes they are back on Lordship Lane and East Dulwich Grove / Grove Vale anyway. I personally am against the LTNs as they slow down public transport having caused more vehicles to use main roads. I like the idea of less traffic but LTNs do not force people to stop using their cars, they simply take a different route.

Recommending Gary - he has done numerous jobs for us over the years - from changing a light switch to dimmer to taking out lights no longer used and moving lights and sockets. Today he fitted a Ring doorbell for us, quick and professional job as alwyas. His number is 07872178044

Thanks for your posts of support. James I will definitely be in touch. The government has pledged 7,000 air filters for over 300,000 classrooms which is simply ridiculous. If you read this and are supportive, please please sign the petition and share with friends and especially teachers / school or college staff etc and other parents. Thanks

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good solicitor who can deal with a building company who've done shoddy work? Ideally no win no fee or fixed fee. Thanks!

Aaron has put his back out - so anyone looking for a plasterer, I'd suggest ringing Mickey Lawless or he can recommend others if too busy.

2 hour wait at King's for me - but am very grateful for the staff and volunteers there!

I was advised to take extra vitamin C (which as most know you cannot easily have too much of - either as fruit/food or as a supplement) and paracetamol after my vaccine. I did this and had hardly any symptoms. Did it again after having the booster so really would recommend - clearly vit C helps with immunity generally and helps ward off coughs and colds, so you can't really go wrong. Take good care everyone

Posting again as this is SO important and we can all do something to encourage the government to fund HEPA filters, as well as CO2 monitors (which they claim to have supplied - untrue in vast majority of places of education). Thanks for your help ED folk! Nearly at 6,000 signatures and we need 10,000 to get a government response. Thanks!
