  1. New refurb is excellent in many ways, nice layout except I don't like facing the free weight section when using the weight machines. All the equipment and spacing is well thought out. I think they should do more for senior citizens in terms of weekday classes and swim sessions but aside from that it's an excellent leisure centre and I'm really grateful it's on our doorstep.
  2. Finally mended! I wonder if Ellie Reeves contacting Thames Water helped...
  3. Exactly. I complained about them being broken for around 2 YEARS and they were repaired autumn (?) last year but only today when I emailed the councillor did he say he had "just received keys". I have no objection to a mix of community groups etc using the board but surely it should be open to all? Including local businesses, many of whom rely on word of mouth or boards like this - they don't often make much profit so it's great to support local business owners. It's not really my own interest as I am not a business owner... I am just reflecting what I would like to see - that I admit - as per my original post. p.s. the noticeboards I am talking about are empty - not used by anyone as the councillor has the key! Watch my words. They will be updated yearly if that and the info will go out of date. Last time the Northcross Rd one ended up with local councillor contact details, community centre contacts (useful I agree) and random flyers. Someone broke the glass and that was it for several years until I constantly emailed and James Barber - wonderful former councillor for the area - proactively supported, and we now have it fixed and a new one near ED station...
  4. I've asked Ellie Reeves local MP to contact Thames Water to ask what they're playing at. Now very hazardous for anyone with mobility issues. Ridiculous and dangerous, like a stream running down Lordship lane including the pavement.
  5. So today after over a year of emailing to get the vandalised noticeboards repaired I emailed our local councillor Charlie Smith only to be told the board will now just have info about tenant associations and other not for profit organisations... Maybe just my opinion but I always thought the boards were useful for new mums to see baby groups, and for local small businesses to advertise. The demographic in ED surely should mean middle classes get a say as to how these boards are used, not just councillors dictating what will be put on there.. plus I can only think if the council are responsible for keeping the info updated it'll be once a year if we're lucky. The noticeboard was vandalised and broken for years before I brought it to their attention and they eventually agreed to get it fixed when James Barber former Lib Dem councillor supported too. Humph. Feeling disappointed. No doubt possibly controversial post but I feel strongly about supporting businesses making a profit as well as not for profits and community groups. Plus there are noticeboards near ED station and other roads closer to estates with tenants associations. Definitely supportive of food banks but you can get that info off here or by ringing the council anyway, plus I assume it'll be posted on the station noticeboard as the Albrighton centre has a food bank.
  6. Lovely service, terrible vegan hot chocolate... shame as I've had pleasant lunch experiences before especially their soups.
  7. I think I am becoming addicted to reporting dog waste and fly tipping - so easy to use, who knows the council might actually put some dog waste bins back up (we used to have one on Ulverscroft Road) and signage to remind careless owners to pick up their dog's mess and put it in a bin - preferably their own bin or a black public one rather than someone's green or blue bin, or leave it on the pavement. So disgusting.
  8. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/funeral-for-tony-slattery I never knew what happened to Ton Slattery after the brilliant improvisation comedy show Whose line is it anyway? For those old enough you'll remember it was a mix of American and British comedians hosted by Clive (forgotten surname)... just read he sadly developed mental health issues that impacted his ability to work but that he'd had much better last few years and been doing comedy tours again in the UK. His partner is fundraising for the funeral but as he remains special to many who grew up watching that show he's got far more than the original target amount. His partner and he had been together 40 years. Amazing and heartwarming love...
  9. This is very useful. I've reported it on Crystal Palace Road as its in lots of places on this road as you turn from Upland Road /Northcross Rd towards the leisure centre. I agree with the original poster, pick up your dog mess!!! And also don't shove bags on the pavement or in the top of bins. Some people behave like animals.
  10. I reported it when it first sprang up and found it really unusual they were so slow.. tho I think they've changed their reporting systems and possibly computer systems and admin staff side which would explain the delay. To be honest I find it so SO rubbish that they just mend leaks when they spring up and the endless works never seem to be lasting. It was only last year they did repairs lasting many months in that part of Lordship Lane. Yet we all now have water meters and are charged ridiculous amounts for poor services. I'd renationalise if I had my way.

  12. Azalea is very well meaning and has offered support throughout since the fundraiser was set up for the family, so please don't be too harsh. We are all obviously keen to ensure the family are protected from debate but this is simply people conversing and I am positive Azalea meant nothing disrespectful by her post; I think simply in disbelief that such a tragedy could happen after the dog in question seems to have attacked a school child a month prior. Anyway as you say, not for discussion here really. Can't comprehend how the family must feel. Hopefully our gesture of fundraiser will enable them to give something to his children and/or do something charitable in his name, which is a strong belief in Islam/ Muslim faith...
  13. Target of £1,500 now reached thank you all who wrote messages of support and/or contributed. I believe the manager at Mr Simms is also collecting separately so I will try and speak to him tomorrow, if appropriate we will merge our collections. Will post again afterwards. Best wishes and heartfelt thanks
  14. Ah wonderful, I'll pop in and see him One more day and then the fundraiser will close. Just £70 needed to get to £1,500. Thank you all for your generosity and support. Private messages have been lovely.

  16. Almost at the stretch target, feeling quite emotional at everyone's kindness and know that this will mean a lot to his family and especially I think his children, to know their dad meant a lot to his customers as well as them. Thank you everyone
  17. Just a few more days to try and reach the target amount. Many thanks for all your generosity and kindness
  18. £1,155 now raised. Would be great to get to £1,500 by 17th January when the Crowdfunder will close. His family and friends are hoping to do something for charity in his name...
