  1. How about trying the upstairs of some local pubs like EDT? They prob won't stay open until wee small hours but worth a try... or night at Rivoli Ballroom Catford (too old?!) or somewhere up in town for drinks rather than hiring somewhere.
  2. Sadly crime does seem to be going up in terms of opportunists and street crime / bike thefts etc. Lack of CCTV in this area means it's more of a target than some neighbouring areas according to police (when they sent victim support round after our car had its catalytic converter stolen twice in 6 months by organised gang complete with balaclavas, iron bars and a chainsaw.. driving a 4x4). Crime still relatively low by some parts of London standards but a worrying trend if burglars are trying their luck when people are actually home. Wonder what local police/ MP thoughts are in terms of whether they could organise more community policing patrols. I read a woman was punched in the face on/near Lordship Lane in an unprovoked attack a week or two ago. Terrifying.
  3. We had shutters and roller blind supplied and fitted by Affordable Shutters when we first moved into our house in 2012 and highly recommend them. One of the poles and a couple of shutter staples recently came loose and they scheduled in a visit when they were in the area at no charge. Lovely customer service, great quality, honestly cannot fault their service (shutters are made to measure so you have to wait but they're worth waiting for). https://affordableshutters.co.uk/
  4. Twitter is a good idea... and also WhatsApp and phone. They eventually take notice if they get enough complaints
  5. Stalls galore with games, face painting and fabulous food! Come and try your luck with hook a duck and 100 boards with AMAZING prizes to be won! All welcome
  6. Multiple complaints and reports of the leak but no barrier as of 4.30pm today. Shockingly bad form especially as they had TW engineers on site across the road this morning. Fix one, another bursts. Lots of residents without water in this hot weather, just terrible...
  7. I agree... perhaps you could also write to our local councillors to point these things out. Never know they might actually reply! Thanks for your help speaking to Monica. She may hopefully have useful contacts re obtaining a key. Completely agree - what's on (which could include some small businesses such as Theatre Peckham, which I think may be a charity or at least community not for profit? And school fairs type thing..) plus anything the community would find useful, such as free events for the elderly (LinkAge are active in ED and surrounding areas) and lots more.
  8. Good idea - Sue are you happy to speak to the owner of Health Matters? Thanks
  9. Why do you say "that hasn't and won't happen"? - It has not happened and I do not believe it will. Why do you not ask for a key, if you would "love this task"? I have requested a key but have not had any reply to my email. Who would you suggest I ask? She still works locally. If you don't know her, I can ask her how you can get a key - Please do. Thanks. There is no reason why the noticeboard should only contain councillors' details (although surely it is important that those are publicised locally?) Why do you say it will contain nothing more? Because it does not contain anything more - see noticeboard (has been there quite a few months now!). Do you know why the notice board has been removed from outside ED station? No sadly I don't - poss during pavement works?
  10. I'd love this task if I was entrusted with a key! Unfortunately that hasn't and won't happen... the noticeboard will contain pointless councillors details and nothing more. The end. The noticeboard (brand new) has now been removed from outside ED station. What a waste of all of our taxes/money. Because my dear Sue, the local councillors rarely reply Zzzzzz
  11. Anyone else witness CRAZY driving - speeding, stop, start, reversing, veering to wrong side of road... a car trying to literally follow a teenager on a bike. Whatever the guy had done this was seriously erratic and dangerous driving by the police. Could easily have caused an accident and injuries. Thank God the cyclist got away before 2 police vans arrived to help give chase.
  12. This sounds incredibly helpful. I feel all secondary schools should hold sessions helping teens navigate through secondary exams and general stress and hormonal changes...
  13. I think we can agree trees are fantastic, beautiful and a welcome part of our environment... the issue occurs as Nigello stated above when they aren't cared for or pruned regularly. When they cause damage to payments and property that isn't right, and unfortunately as trees mature - particularly some varieties - they show that it really isn't practical for them to be planted in close proximity to properties.
  14. Thankfully he's better Sue, thanks to your usual sarcasm - can always rely on the fact you have nothing better to do than reply to every one of my posts. Clearly I'll have to change my ED forum name 😉 Apologies to anyone offended. We've all eaten in this cafe many many times so I've put this down to a one off. Yes obviously kids get sick. Gosh I didn't realise when ED forum became so full of passive aggressive, sarcastic people. Won't be posting again in a hurry - cue the afore mentioned type of replies in response no doubt... Oh and this incident was most definitely the icecream or person serving it having dirty hands or gloves, as my son was fine after he was sick. So no bug. For the avoidance of doubt nobody meant for this to affect any business, so once again apols for mentioning by name. Happy icecream eating everyone.
  15. Do you have links to these statistics please? The only positive stats I've seen were from lockdown, when clearly pollution decreased. Plus they help generate millions in fines, as per stats mentioned above. LTNs are a bad idea aside from for those who live on the roads that have been closed or cyclists.
  16. No the collections were separate, although both funds transferred to his brother, Asif. You could pop in and speak to his brother if you wanted more details but I believe they plan to fund a well in Africa. Thanks if you donated, the brothers were very grateful and touched.
  17. My youngest son was violently sick after an icecream today and that was the only thing he ate differently to me or the rest of the family. Just trying to work out if it's a bug or down to what he ate... Anyone else had a reaction? Thanks
  18. https://www.instagram.com/thedulwichcakeco?igsh=MW9qNXFpa2RhNWswdA== Beautiful celebration cakes, birthdays, christenings etc. Highly recommended 🙂
  19. Hi I think there's a thread about ED Charter SEN below... hopefully helpful Best of luck
  20. Council address for reporting very useful
  21. Council respond very quickly, brilliant. We definitely need more dog poo bins around ED tho, I'm guessing they disappeared due to more cost cutting
  22. Very interested to see how the legal challenge to LTNs in south London goes in February... spending a long time on a bus in heavy traffic every morning is so frustrating, when surely everyone must by now agree that LTNs and road closures such as Melbourne Grove and some other side roads in East Dulwich serve no useful purpose, and most definitely do not reduce air pollution aside from on the now quieter closed roads. Apparently one road off Grove Vale should have been reopened for emergency vehicles but remains closed with a planter etc. I'd love to see statistics of cycle and pedestrian usage of Melbourne Grove, as I know several businesses on that road have moved (e.g. Callow locksmiths) or closed (secondhand clothes shop and GMs hair salon along with the Greek restaurant) since the LTN was put in place...
