Exactly my impression John - it wasn't really that the poor kids seemed so dull. In fact when they were tearing up the street they looked as though they were having the time of their lives (probably quite short ones if something doesn't change) but it was the end of the episode that said it all - a happy receiver of stolen goods is just how it appeared to me, and just as Dickens portrayed it. Anyway if the police can help then I am glad. As a kid I was no angel and when it came to the crunch some proper authority worked for me - sometimes it hurt but in all I came to understand the effects of my crimes on others. And whilst I am not sure "how should we deal with children like this now" as you have asked, it does seem to me that an awful lot of kids just do not have anyone there in their lives to tell them what to do. And I really mean just simply that: they need people to tell them what to do. Please, ye folks of the EDF, try not to see this remark as a left/right issue since that's not what I want to mean - they really just need some basic instructions.

  18. A lovely group of charming boys were seen riding possibly their own bicycles North on Grove Vale at about 3.40pm yesterday. They did well to risk their own lives, and those of others, by jumping red lights, swerving through traffic and riding on and off the pavement. At least one of them had stolen a pedestrian's phone, wallet or purse by the time they'd reached East Dulwich station. The group then turned right on to Quorn Road and met with an older and delighted looking acquaintance - seemed that the takings were satisfactory. This activity was reported to the police. The group consisted of around eight black youths around 12 to 16 years of age all wearing the same old drab grey/black tracks suits and trainers.

  24. People's breath travels whether you can see it or not, Fox. Is it more realistic and scary to see it? Rather stand closer to a vaper than a smoker, regardless of viruses of any type. Exhaled vape is negligible in terms of harm when compared to passive smoking. Exhaled vape in the UK is probably cleaner than some of the so-called air that many people inhale in parts of some towns and cities. The coronavirus pandemic does not flourish because some people vape. The risk of fatality and impact on other health issues and health provision for all because of smoking is sadly incalculable - viruses or not. With covid in play you should have even more reason to celebrate the fact that more people are vaping and less are smoking... ... and if you can judge your distance by their exhaled vapes maybe stick closer to the vapors rather than those stealthy non-vapors with their stealthy exhalations which could be anywhere.
