  1. Ah Saffron I think that's what I'd heard about. Any idea where I can purchase them? I'm guessing maybe health matters on LL?
  2. Hi Fuschia - that's a good idea for me, but I wasn't sure about giving it to him as he's only ever had breast milk (I'm ultra sensitive about it as my daughter had a cow's milk protein allergy). I'm sure I read somewhere about a homeopathic remedy I could give directly to him (I don't actually subscribe to homeopathy at all, but I'll try anything to make him feel better!)
  3. I've recently had a throat infection which wouldn't budge and was eventually prescribed 250mg amoxycillin. 3 days after I finished the course, I got it back again with a vengeance (plus full on flu symptoms) and was then prescribed 500mg amoxycillin. I'm exclusively bf my son who has just turned 5 months. The stronger antibiotics gave me a 'bad tummy' and since I took them, my son has also seemed to have worse wind and general tummy ache (no other symptoms like d&v though). I've finished the course now and my tummy is better, but he isn't. Anything I can do/take/give to help his tummy? Or is it not that, and perhaps the jabs or something else...
  4. There's one in Peckham Rye park, near the normal playground and skate park. I think they charge and it isn't open all the time (I don't know for sure as my daughter's not old enough to go there yet!)
  5. Firstly, well done for persevering a bit longer this time with bf. I've got two kids - one is 3.5 (exclusively breastfed and my son is 5 months old and the same - however, this time I've introduced a bottle of expressed milk every now and again for the same reasons you discuss - one night a week I get to have a life! hurraaaay! and my husband gets some fantastic one to one time with my son) Anyway, I know you want to stick with Tommee Tippee, but I found that we had best success with the Playtex system and teats (pm if you want supplier information - it's easy peasy). A lot less winding is required. Also, try slighter cooler milk in the bottle. The times my son has struggled is when the milk has been a tiny bit warmer than usual - and I mean a tiiiiiiiny bit warmer - not too hot, just a bit warmer than usual. Also, I assume your partner/hubby is doing the feeds and you're not any where near as that can confuse her. And finally, there's some really good websites about positioning for bottle feeding. It's second nature once you've grasped it to get a good breastfeeding latch, but the same amount of focus and work is required to get a good 'latch' for the bottle, one that will ensure a good bottle feed as well as a desire to still feed at the breast. And finally, there is absolutely nothing wrong with mixed feeding in the end. If you can't get her to take an expressed bottle, you may find it's worthwhile trying her on formula for bottles, and then you at other times. Perhaps she will realise it's a 'different' meal and accept the bottle more readily. Good luck - whatever you choose will be the right thing!
  6. Another vote for Half Moon in HH. Really excellent care and activities. My daughter completely loves it.
  7. Have a look at this thread - has it got the information you mean? EDF Primary Schools
  8. Is Rhyme Time at the library every day?
  9. Thanks for more advice. And contacts. All really helpful.
  10. 12 weeks and 13 weeks for ours. First one was coincided with her sleeping through from 7-7. Little boy took a few weeks longer but it definitely helped that we weren't in the same room with him. I have to say though that the monitor is always on so we could hear any problems. You just have to be comfortable. No point moving baby into another room and then you not sleeping at all for worry!
  11. Thanks everyone. We used the little cornered off bit in the cafe and it was great. And my marriage survived (just).
  12. Hurray. That was exactly the news I was hoping for. Thanks ladies.
  13. Well the time has come to put my marriage on the line and head down to IKEA. It can't be avoided sadly and historically, it's the only place my husband and I have ever had a relationship threatening argument! To add to my joy, my little boy will need a feed whilst we're there. Has anyone fed in IKEA Croydon, and if so, where? Is the cafe the best place? Fingers crossed I return with a husband, the children and a sense of humour.
  14. Just a thought, but I had independent midwives for my first birth but was with the Brierley for my second birth. I personally found the Brierley to be surprisingly better on a number of counts than my well-respected and recommended independent midwives. And, they don't cost you a lot of money. As I say, just a thought. Independent midwives are great if money is less of a focus!
  15. Thanks for the further information being posted. That map from Southwark is pretty useful (although pretty depressing for where I live and the apparent quality of schools we live near!).
  16. Thank you everyone for the info. Starting to feel at least more informed, if not less scared. By the way, if one lives in Southwark, can you only apply to Southwark schools?... we're close to the Lambeth border so I was wondering if we could apply there too?
  17. Thanks Coach Beth. When is the Southwark council info likely to be published?
  18. That map thing is exactly the sort of thing I'd been wishing for! Brilliant. Thank you. I'll double check it with the Southwark information when they publish it. Just checked the 4 closest schools and I think we may be moving house rather hurredly. What a horrid process this is.
  19. Am getting a little worried about doing our primary school applications - we'll be doing it for a September 2012 start. It seems to be a very difficult, stressful and ultimately nightmarish process? Or can I make it easier somehow? How can you make sure you know about all the schools in your area (I know the ones I walk past but I don't know my area inside out). Also, how do you find out what their catchment areas are and does anyone ever get their child into a school when they're out of official catchment? Could someone give me a brief bullet point list of the things I have to do? Or tell me where I can find out the information? Thanks
  20. Has anyone got a contact number for her? She emailed me to say my daughter should be able to get a place in one of her classes starting next term, but this was by email and I've responded three times now but no response to confirm either way. I can imagine she's busy, but I just want to know the score so we can chase other schools if necessary, hence needing a tel number. Thanks
  21. Fantastic advice from EDForumites. Thank you lots and lots. It's helpful to hear other viewpoints before spending money we almost don't have! I've PM'd those who offered contact numbers etc. Thanks again.
  22. Absolutely definitely carry all docs with you when driving. Yes, you can turn right on a red although you don't have right of way so make sure there are no cars coming (particularly confusing at a crossroad junction when traffic can come from effectively ahead of you as well as from the left). My parents live in Florida (hence knowing the above). Re: the Kindle, mum bought hers in the US and could read it fine over here but she had problems buying books for it whilst she was here. I would strongly recommend looking into that further before you purchase just in case. In the back of my mind, I think you have to buy one from the UK.
  23. Great advice. Thank you. It's very tempting to save money by fitting it ourselves but I think we just done have the skills.
  24. Thanks Bonniebird. I think we'd have to get someone more 'in the know' to fit the kitchen. My husband is fairly DIY friendly, but hasn't really got the time to invest in making sure he gets it right. Thanks for the loading up on your own advice. I've got a 14wk old baby as well as a 3yr old so I think perhaps we would rather get in the way!
